  1. Chunk, congrats on the shop upgrade, you will soon be out of space again though. I upped my shop size a few years ago, back then I thought I would never outgrow the new shop. Wrong! I would like to build a new larger shop now,my present shop is far to small now that I've gotten into turning. One thing I would like to suggest, if you haven't already thought of doing so. Is to take one of those rooms, and to turn it into nothing but a finish room. Use that room for no other purpose, other then for finishing purposes. Len
  2. Mark, you did an outstanding job, it's an amazing bit of scrolling. Len
  3. Nicely done Frank, the stack would be a bit fragile wouldn't it? Len
  4. That's amazing, and definitely something for you to be proud to have your name on it. Len
  5. Brian, I think it looks very nice, nobody would notice it being off centered. It's not the cutting of letters that I mind, it's the actual placing of them that I dislike so much. Len
  6. Nicely done. Len
  7. Two very nice looking pieces Deb, I really am impressed with the Bo Sox piece. Len
  8. Double posting.
  9. Randy, I agree with Melanie, I think it's a Star Wars depiction also. Len
  10. Dick, so can I, but I might have to wear a snowmobile suit sometimes to enjoy it. And I honestly wouldn't trade places with you, winter is my favorite season. The colder it gets, the fresher the air seems to get also. I used to work in the far north, as far as you can go. It got to be extremely cold at times, and I enjoyed every minute I got to work in it. The colder it gets, the warmer you dress. And no matter how cold it gets, you can always dress to work in it. Unlike where you live, it gets so darn hot there that it's impossible to work outside in the sun and heat. I can't comfortably dress to work in that kind of heat, but I can teach anyone to dress and work in the coldest temperatures there is. It's not just a matter of putting on clothes that are supposed to keep you warm, if you don't put them on properly, they just won't keep you warm. Len
  11. Edward, that's a very nice looking Nativity scene cutting, I've never seen this one before now. Len
  12. OMG, that's an ugly cat. Len
  13. I like what cherry looks like, when I use danish oil for a finish. It pops the grain, and it always gives a nice finished look. Len
  14. Ray, these saws are supposedly made with cheaper components, they were made that way on purpose. They were made with cheaper components, so that they could be sold for less. The intent was to try to convince people to buy these saws, instead of the other lower priced options in the market. This info was released when they first introduced the saws, I haven't heard much about them since then. Len
  15. Brian, I've purchased most of the scroll sawing books I've seen over the years, and I still own all of them. What I have found from reading all of them, is that most of them have the same information on how to saw safely and efficiently. And what the different types of blades were used for what, especially, the books that were directed more to new scrollers. So you could get away with using just about any book directed to new scrollers, and not be wrong. I no longer have any use for the books I own, but shipping them to you would just be to costly. I checked earlier today to see what it would cost to get seven back issues of Woodworking and Crafts shipped to me . It was going to cost $63.00, that was just a little to rich for my pocketbook. Len
  16. Kevin, these are very nice looking ornaments, getting an order for thirty of them is a nice order to get. How many were able to cut per stack, that had to speed things up? Len
  17. Stevan, it is only a suggestion, of what blade they either used or would use for the project. Personally, I use whatever blade "I" think is best for cutting a project out, I hardly ever use what blade is suggested by someone else. Len
  18. Thanks Brian, I wasn't sure if it was a deal or not, nor am I sure if the Rockler's deal included a stand either. Len
  19. Don, these Wise Men are amazing, but sadly, so is the amount of sanding it takes to get them to this point. You sure are brave scroller, to take on a sanding/shaping job like this one is. Is there any more items to be made, for this to be a complete nativity set? Len
  20. Way to go Doc, it's great that your local show, was a successful sale for you. It sure looks like you had a good selection to pick from, was there any other woodworker's there selling their wares? Len
  21. Jeff, that's quite the selection of beverages, did you ever find out what the question was?Three very nice pieces, I'll have to look into getting those patterns. Len
  22. Way to go Monti, those are very nice looking ornaments. For over ten years now, we've had a 7 foot tree decorated with homemade ornaments. They're all scroll sawn, and they are all made from 9 different types of wood. I have about 160 of the ornaments, and each year I add new ones. And because of adding new ones each year, I'm forced to retire some of the older ones. When I retire an old one, one of my two daughters will claim it after a bit of arguing on who should get that one. It's usually settled by who got the previous one to be retired, they are only young women 36&38 , but it's amazing how quickly they can forget who got the one the previous year. lol Len
  23. Nicely done Pete, you've been a bit busy. Len
  24. Looking good Don, your really catching on to theses things. May |I make a small suggestion though? If you made them a bit longer, you could round the ends over. And with yours being made so short, someone will try to push in on the end and cause the wood to break away. That's why I started rounding the ends over, I had one that had got broken when done like yours are. But not since I started rounding the ends over, since then none have been broken. Don, when I say rounding the ends over, I mean that I cut the ends in the shape of a semi-circle. Len
  25. John, I love it, it looks freaking awesome!!! Len
