  1. I hope they have good customer service and help you out. I like ordering things from them. Let us know how it turns out
  2. Have you looked at the pattern making section of this site? Travis has put together some awesome tutorials.
  3. Fun Topic!! This isn't my first, but the earliest that I found on my facebook page. I noticed some of my early work in my mom's boxes as she moved over the weekend, I'll see if I can find something earlier.
  4. I make them out of dowels. A table with a jig to hold the dowel and a stop block and you can cut dozens in just a few minutes. To get colored pieces, I use stain or diluted paint, throw half the pieces in a bag or container, dump the stain, strain off the extra and wipe dry. Another option is to paint a dowel, then cut the pieces. You end up with a nice colored edge and wood top. I am the official game piece maker at school. Any time a game is missing pieces they bring it to me to fix.
  5. I use glue sticks, and love them! I have an indoor shop and didn't like having to go outside everytime I wanted to glue something. I do usually cover it with clear packing tape. At least the edges where there is sticky glue and I don't want to wait.
  6. Yay!!!! It worked!!! That is a beautiful basket.
  7. I had to go look it up. Turns out it is what I use to open up my cans, I just didn't know what it was called. My students love when I open up a can, most of them don't believe me when I tell them a marble is in it.
  8. Lol, I don't go very far without the furry shop foreman. He likes to keep his eyes on me.
  9. From time to time the topic of kids in the shop comes up. Earlier this week my niece and nephew were at my place for a few days. I have made them a bunch of wooden animals as toys that they could paint and color. They have enjoyed this at birthdays and holidays many times. While staying with me I had a new set of pieces for them to decorate. We finished with the ones I had cut out when my niece says "aunty Katie, it's too bad we don't have any hearts we could paint. I'd give you one because you are my friend" I melted a bit and said, let's go make some. She is 4 and sat on my lap while we cut shapes for about 45 minutes. At one point my blade was getting a bit loose and I stopped the saw to check it out saying "something sounds funny" After changing the blade I plucked it to make sure it was tight. A minute later (and every 5 minutes after that) she made me stop saying she heard something funny, she checked both blade clamps and plucked the blade before she let me continue. Share your hobby with a kid!
  10. I used to be really bad saving almost any piece. I like making jewelry so I see possibility in tiny pieces. A few years ago I got sick of all of my boxes of wood and made up a bunch of pieces with all of the some day pieces. It was a fun project. I have moved several times and now have a pretty small scrap box. If it isn't exotic or unique I'll toss it if it isn't suitable size for an ornament.
  11. everytime you post a new bowl I think I have found my favorite! Great Pattern
  12. I haven't taken the time to fully test this but I think it should work. I made the pattern using Scroll Mania's PolyDraw Oval Bowl.pdf
  13. @heppnerguy I have used PolyDraw. I followed the tutorials and made a few different designs and several baskets from the patterns. Let me know if you have any questions and I can try to help.
  14. http://www.scrollmania.com/ is a cool site. It has something called PolyDraw. It lets you draw your own bowl patterns and you can do oval Shelia Landry has some cool shapes http://www.sheilalandrydesigns.com/category/boxes-baskets/basket-patterns Also, like John asked, what type of bowl are you looking for?
  15. post your question here or in the pattern making section. Someone will try to help out.
  16. This is my favorite so far!! I can't wait to see what else you come up with. I already placed my order for the pattern.
  17. I forgot about this. What did you want us to do to be able to sign up?
  18. WOW!!! Some amazing pieces shown here. Great job everybody.
  19. I got a delta in my school shop last fall. I did have to open it up and tighten the bolts holding the motor on, but other than that it has held up great. The use and abuse that it gets with my middle and high school kids really puts it trough its paces. At the end of the day I can still use it to cut fine pieces. The $90 difference can buy a lot of wood.
  20. Like Dan I usually use E6000. I also use it to glue metal hair barrettes to wood pieces, and none of those have failed either. In a pinch on some pins for myself I did use hot glue, and they are held up well. But I wouldn't want to give/sell them that way.
  21. so cute!!
  22. Just to be difficult...I had a stand with 3 legs and one in the front. I found it weird because I was so used to putting my foot on the cross brace.
  23. I use Rustoleum 2x paint and primer for my spraypaint stuff. They have an nice assortment of colors and even some glitter types. I use the clear version for the top coat of most of my projects.
  24. I have never tried a non-rectangle frame. I can't be of any help. It would look cool, I just don't know how to do it.
  25. I would tend to leave the pieces natural. If painting either white or black would be my choice, I think that white would show up better on the red but it might be a little too high contrast. I would also tend to leave the frame fairly natural, but a black frame is always classic looking. This is all together a wonderful project, I can't wait to see what you decide to do.
