  1. very cool project! It has fewer pieces than the geared clocks, I would think that it would be a good starter project. Something you could see some results much quicker with.
  2. wow! Looks like a nice saw! It really looks like a scroll saw designed by someone who uses a scroll saw. I will keep my eyes on this, just in case the Ex breaks down.
  3. Almost any blade will cut plastic. you just need to find the right speed. You don't want the plastic to melt and then weld back together.
  4. Glad I can help! Enjoy having the saw inside. I love my indoor shop. It really lets me be all sorts of crafty and creative.
  5. didn't you read the wife manual? If the husband puts up a fight, just pick one of his favorite things in the house and say "if the saw goes that goes"
  6. Just to be difficult (I'm a woman, it is my job) I don't have a foot switch. I had an on/off type foot switch laying around and used it for a bit, but never got the hang of it, so haven't used it in years. I keep putting off getting a deadman switch because I don't sit with my feet on the floor. I need to rig up a system like JT The Clock Man has, That way the switch could be useful. At school, all of our Dewys have giant knee shut off switches installed. They are taking some getting used to, I keep hearing "Mrs.N, thats not how you are supposed to do it!" I am a creature of habit.
  7. This is such a great book!! Awesome new ornaments this year!!!! Great job to the designers.
  8. Awesome!! You guys know me so well! Shoes and Scrolling are totally my things.
  9. My 2-cents. The books recommended are good places to start, but unless you are a serious book lover check the library. Sheila Landry patterns have great instructions with them, keep that in mind if you love any of her patterns. My biggest piece of advice for newbies is to find a project that speaks to them, something they really want to make, not necessarily for any one, just something they like. Having a project that will hold your interest will greatly increase the knowledge picked up in the process.
  10. nice light! And bonus you found a use for the bracket for the safety foot we all take off!
  11. You can hide the pilot holes by faning out to the thin parts. On many pieces you won't really notice the fat part of the line as much as the distinct drill hole. Your cuttings look pretty good.
  12. Neat pattern. I love the hair on these angels.
  13. You are quite the pattern maker! Great work on the pattern and the cutting.
  14. Wow, amazing work!
  15. I find puzzle blades only work in thin pieces.
  16. so cute!
  17. One of the reasons I quit using spray adhesive is because of getting it on my fingers. Mineral spirit works but I am super sensitive and turn bright red for quite a while after using it. The other method that I have had success with is getting the gluey spot coated really well with sawdust, and then using an abrasive cleaner (like the automotive hand cleaner that Ron Johnson recommended) Scrub really well with a nail brush and the abrasive cleaner.
  18. do a google search for "star wars stencils" or "star wars pumpkin carving patterns". you will find some great things to use. We don't have any on the site because of copyright issues, but other places on the net are less concerned with lawsuits. one of the search results: http://www.woojr.com/star-wars-pumpkin-stencils/
  19. I found that packing tape breaks into tiny pieces and is hard to remove from the wood. It is also clear so harder to see if you missed some until part way through finishing. Because of this I switched to using painters tape on the wood and glue the pattern to that. I do cover my pattern with packing tape before I drill the holes and start cutting. I like the way it cuts and feels. I do it mostly out of habit but it works for me, and keeps me happy.
  20. fun project, you did a good job on cutting and designing
  21. very nice piece! I do love that pattern.
  22. yeah, it happens
  23. I had one I couldn't get to work once and tried the freezer trick, but then forgot it in the freezer. My boyfriend was very confused when he went to get ice.
  24. Nice job! They look good. Also glad you got your camera working again, so much fun to see your pictures
  25. Can you take pictures of what you are working on and the problems you are having? I am having a hard time figuring out what is going on from just text. The Sheila Landry basket you showed is actually a quite complex project. That is the beauty of some projects, they look simple but are quite complex. You need to have the notches cut square and lined up correctly so that the whole thing sits flat and even. Straight and square are the archenemies of scroll saws. As for the CA glue, you are probably using too much. Just a little bit works wonders.
