  1. Mineral spirits work great for that task Kardar. You can even by odorless which is great if you have a small shop. Just put it in a small spray bottle and have at it. Barry
  2. Great job on those Ron. I really like that Reagan quote. Thanks for sharing your work with us. Barry
  3. Wow Deb, ribbons on all. Very impressive work. Thanks for sharing it with us. Barry
  4. Another great job Deb. thanks for sharing it. Barry
  5. Wow, a blue ribbon on this one, smart judges. Love how it's just the owl on the backer. Gives it depth and a whole different character. Thanks for sharing it with us Deb. Barry
  6. Nicely done on the sled ornament Deb, and look, another ribbon. You must be very proud at this moment. Beautiful work and you deserve the accolades. Barry
  7. Well done on the plate Deb. Another ribbon also, ok I've counted three so far, keep em coming Barry
  8. Well Tom, either way, it's a fantastic cutting. Would love to get my hands on a copy of your pattern. Hope you decide to post it here. Thanks Barry
  9. Another great job Deb. The background color you chose really sets that off. I agree with Travis, you are going to need a ribbon rack or something. Barry
  10. Beautiful job on Minnie. It certainly deserves a blue ribbon. Thanks for sharing your success with us. Barry
  11. Really nice job on those unicorns. I've had to flip cutting around as well in the past. In the past, I didn't do much prep to the back side of the wood before cutting. Had the same problem you did a couple of times and decided it's easier to sand the uncut wood on both sides, rather than waiting for the unexpected problem and having to sand the backside after it's cut. I'm sure your wife will love those. Barry
  12. Hi Darrell, glad you made your way here. I've seen you around on some of the other boards and I'm pretty sure you should know quite a few of the regulars here as well. Enjoy the site and can't wait to see more of your work. Barry

Welcome Ron, hope you enjoy the site. Beautiful job on the steam engine Ron. Very well finished also, great job. Could you tell us whose pattern it is? If it's yours I would love to have a copy of that, if not, I would love to get a hold of the pattern designer. Thanks, Barry
  14. The only real maintenance I do to my saw is vacuum/blow out the interior after I'm done with each cutting. I figure all that dust in there can't be good just hanging around inside the saw. Otherwise, I just cut with it. Barry
  15. Outstanding work on those. Love both of them. Jack Red Cloud kinda reminds me of the indian in the commercials from years ago about pollution. Is this him? Barry
  16. That turned out great. Thanks for showing us. As for the tearout, since you shaped it the way you did, it looks like it's supposed to be there. It matches the size and style of many of the other larger cutouts. Nice save on that. I'm a big fan of Jeff's patterns. He's got a few from past issues of magazines that I'm slowly working up the nerve to cut. Super detailed stuff like that is one of the things that fascinated me so much with scrolling. I've got a Christmas pattern he released for free of a couple of kids finishing the decorating of a Christmas tree. Would love to have a bunch of those done for Christmas to give as gifts. Barry
  17. Like Travis, I'm still a big fan of the felt backer, only because of the bit of texture it gives. Luckily they sell it in all sorts of colors. I have thought of printing onto card stock to use as backers as well instead of spray painting. You could actually create the gradient or starburst as a layer on the pattern itself so you could tailor individual areas of the backer to the image. Then just print the layer by itself. Hmmm, if I ever manage to get near my saw again I'm going to have to try that. Barry
  18. Beautiful job on that Sue. That is one really cute dog, and I see why he's your brother's new best friend. Very cute indeed. Barry
  19. Great job on all of those Ron. I'm with a lot of the group, I really like that basket. I've seen that Jesus pattern before, but can't remember whose it is. Barry
  20. I've never straightened the ends of my spirals. Haven't had a problem with the ends bending over or anything. I do however sand the ends of the blades with 120 grit sandpaper to give them a little more grab in my blade clamp. This does beg the question though, wouldn't it just be easier to by the straight end spirals that are available instead of taking the time to do it yourselves? Barry
  21. Brag away Ron, brag away. You've earned the right. I'm going to have to check to see if they have a category at our county fair for me to enter a few pieces as well. Those two cuttings were terrific. I'm glad your talent was recognized and that you also got to share this terrific craft with others. If your demonstrations at the fair even got only one or two people interested in the craft it was a success. Thanks for sharing your great news with us. Barry
  22. Really nice job on that Ron. Thanks for sharing it with us. Barry
  23. You got that right Keith. Animals, people, and nature scenes are ideal for spiral blades since nature abhors straight lines and symmetry. Only man made object have truly straight lines. I usually use flat blades for ornaments, signs, lettering, and things of that nature. Once you get comfortable with the spirals though you will have no problem doing straight lines with them either. Barry
  24. Keith, I agree with Vector. It's a very well done piece. The colors are very vivid and work well together, the fit of the pieces is very tight and smooth. Excellent job. To help hide the backer on this piece a little better, just paint the edge of the backer the same color as the wood above. This way the piece will just look a little thicker. Barry
  25. That looks like a pain in you know what to put back together. Nice job on it though. Thanks for sharing it with us. BArry
