  1. Well........I sent a email out to everyone that participated in this exchange. The software program that I used did not work properly and not everyone received the email. Also for some reason I cannot find the main list that the program sent out on my computer. Needless to say I will not use this software again! I will get this fixed as soon as everyone involved sends me an email back. I plan on redoing the list and sending one back out that I do by hand. I just need an email back from people if they actually got the initial email. I need the information from them about who they had.
  2. I love Sassafras, it cuts like butter and smells like root beer when cut. This is what I have used for my stand-up puzzles and the wood holds up very well. I also like poplar for a back-up to sassafras.

  7. Last night was the first time I was able to participate in the weekly chat here. What an experience it was! Everyone got along and joked around with each other! We also learned the difference between a mini-lathe and a midi-lathe! Thanks to Clayton for the question and thanks to Mike of Midlothian Woodworks for the answer! Looking forward to the next chat
  8. Clayton that is a nice Project that you did. Great way of reusing old stuff too.
  9. Brian I agree with Chris. Corel Draw is a big program to download. If you dont mind me asking.....what do you want to do with Corel Draw? This is a pricey program and injkscape will do just about everything corel will do and its free. If your planning on doing just pattern design I would stay away from Corel because of the price. If you plan on doing alot of graphic art design then go for it! I do use Corel x3 and love it. I only had the program because I used for t-shirt printing.
  10. The above comments and advice work very well. My feeling for mounting pictures or what ever you want to cut onto plywood should be dry mounted. I have found this works best and there is no waiting around for things to dry. The only problem with dry mounting is the cost of the equipment. The next best method for me is what Travis does. Using spray adhesive. You can cut your puzzle almost immediately after mounting also. The down side is you will get spray glue all over the place. I use 1/4 baltic birch plywood (5ply). Please dont use the cheap 3 ply for this. You will not like the results. Other puzzle makers will use oak, cherry, and poplar. I hear Poplar is a really great wood for puzzles but I have never use it just yet. Stand up puzzles can be cut out of hard wood or plywood. Use at least 3/4" thick stock. I dont recommend using a soft wood like pine. Pine seems to break to easy. I use mostly sassafras and some oak for my Stand-up puzzles. The plywood works out great because of the strength of the wood. It will not break as easily as regular wood will. However I think plywood is rather ugly compared to hardwood. I use a fd#5ur blade for these puzzles. This cuts the wood really good and there is not much sanding needed after cutting. You can also use a #5sr but there is more sanding needed.
  11. Puzzles......puzzles........puzzles......puzzles.......and puzzles! Oh did I mention I like to do puzzles?
  12. I am right there with you Travis. I am behind in everything right now!
  13. I use sassafras.....it cuts really nice and smells like root-beer when cut! If I don't have any left then I use oak.
  14. In the past I did Travis. I actually find that the freestanding puzzles do better. I plan on making some of the layered puzzles for show next year.
  15. Welcome to the Village William! You may mean hobby but we all know what it really means!
  16. That is how my blackberry takes pictures. Obviously not very good ones!
  17. I just got done my last craft show of the year. The show was just ok. Not a lot of foot traffic this year at this show. I did get several orders so i cant complain to much though! I was told to take a picture by one of our "pesky" members!

  20. Rich they look great. Did you make those frames too? I really like them.
  21. ummmmm.........where is mine?
  22. Mike it is just to easy to take photos off a website. Putting the lock on the page or even the right click disable is really going to annoy most of the honest people trying to shop your website. If you do a search on this you will read how easy it is to get around and the explanation of why it is not a good idea to do. Travis has a good idea and it will work. It does look a little cheesy though . As far as an easy way to do this.....I am at a lost! As you know I am selling patterns too. I have cut just about every thing I sell but i am really bad with taken photos. I wish I had because my site has items on there with out any pictures! The ones with out pictures still sell but I am sure they would sell better with pictures. I dont think its a good idea to post the pattern itself. That is just saying "take me please"
  23. Looks good Clayton.....as you know I am a sucker for puzzles!
  24. Welcome to the Village Scott
  25. I was planning on doing a wip on this! It will be interesting to do since I have never done any kind of intarsia work before!
