  1. That is very nice. Works well.
  2. I too would have drilled the eyes. I do a couple different sized deer clocks and just drill eyes. Nice cutting though.
  3. Dave you are not going to win here. Both look good as everyone has said. I do prefer the stained one because I do not like painted scroll work. But that is an opinion and we all have one. Now with that said I want to comment on your work. Being that photo is blown up huge when you click on it you get a real look at your cutting. Have to say you are a very skilled scroller and the cuts are spot on. Now if I were buying that piece that is something I would be looking for and you sir past the test with flying colors. Nice work and thanks for showing.
  4. I agree with the others. I use a #5 blade all the time in woods up to 3/4" The key to making sharp turns is to stop cutting when turning. You go into the corner and back off ever so slightly so the blade is no longer cutting and then spin the wood and continue on. It is a bit of a learning curve but easily learned. The more you do it the more you do not even think about it.
  5. That came out real well. I like the mix of woods. Thanks for showing.
  6. Randy again very nice work. As far as thin to wrap would probably be half the thickness or a shade less. I do not do them so not quite sure. There is a person on the IAP pen turning site that cuts all kinds of coins but what he does is cuts the coin for what it is. He uses all the state quarters and many others. But he does not do designs in them. To me it seems a waste if you are going to cut designs and people do not know what that coin was. Is there some place you can get blanks of some sort?? Or use casino chips. You would get a ton of different colors and mixture of colors. They do look nice though.
  7. That is a good deal if it works well. If it is a type #1 it is worth a little more. Those were the originals. Make for a good standby if you had the room.
  8. Thanks all for the kind words. I will always keep my eye open just in case.
  9. There is no recipe. Home Depot used to carry Watco but I do not think they do any more. Get it from a paint store or order on line. There are other brands of Danish oil. Tried and True is another good one. A little goes a long way. I stock piled when they went out of business and Home Depot was selling out many years ago. They have since been picked up but the formula is just a tad bit different because of EPA stuff. But still works well at least I find it does.
  10. You can not take the inserts apart. They glued the gold ring and it will break. It used to screw off and I did what you talked about before. The more expensive top quality inserts are not the same design and won't work. These are or I should say were made on all the same platform and the faces were interchangable. But a few years ago they started gluing the rings and now they even changed the whole body of the clock. I ordered some of the blue flag 2-3/4" inserts thinking they would too be going away. But it turns out these are the new style and will be very difficult to use in my projects because they would require a thickness greater than 3/4" to hide the back.
  11. Thanks Dan. I did the same. I was hoping there was that odd off the beaten track site. As I went through my insert inventory I noticed that so many of the inserts were eliminated. Just about all the sports themed inserts are now gone. Here is another one of my big sellers and now I can not get the golf theme clock insert any more. It is really discouraging. If I had only known I would have cleaned their shelves for them. That is what happens when you step away for a few years. Maybe someone will bring them back again but i am not holding my breathe. Very disappointed. I am going to write to the President of Wildwood/Cherry Tree and see what their intentions are??
  12. Why not just buy it already made. Can not see saving anything. For my projects I like to use Danish oil. It is a combination of BLO, mineral spirits, and poly and some driers. Gives the piece a little warmer glow than flat blo. Have been doing that for over 35 years. Watco is my brand.
  13. Afew more of these desk clocks.
  14. I am sure it would have to be a huge order if the company in China still makes them. They have done away with many of their inserts when they merged with Cherry Tree. It is pretty frustrating. I ordered the blue flag insert the other day figuring I better get those before they go away. It turns out they changed the design that holds them in and depth of the insert. Now they do not even fit in 3/4" thick projects. This is forcing me to use basic inserts and not go with any theme ones.
  15. Well wildwood designs did it again. I can not find another clock insert. It is a 2-3/4" fire dept. insert. It is the one on the left. Anyone with any of these that want to sell let me know or if you know where I may buy some please let me know. It is getting frustrating. If i had known they were going to do away with many of the inserts I would have stock piled. Being away for 3 years really hurt my inventory.
  16. That looks pretty cool. I have not known you long enough so please excuse the questions. I am guessing this is something you have been doing for awhile. Do you have others you would like to share??? Also what type coin is this and what are you cutting with?? Do you do anything else with these such as wrap around a pen tube?? There are many people who cut coins and wrap them around pen tubes and then cast in clear resin to make cool looking pens. Do you thin the coin??? Looks fragile. Looks great though. It is on my to do list which is quite lengthy.
  17. Ehhh not totally true. It is about getting a good glue joint also. If i am doing a table top or any wide board panel I am running both sides through the jointer for that sweet glue joint. I have a Delta 6" full size jointer. Now if you do not have one then many other options mentioned are good to use.
  18. I have seen the Dewalt for $450 with stand and at times $400 saw alone. Just watch for sales
  19. Just out of curiosity why do people pick the Delta over the Dewalt??? Basically the same saw and Dewalt has been around longer.
  20. Looks good from here as well. I always love clocks. These will be well received. For clocks like that I like to use the praying hands clock inserts. Goes good with that theme. Thanks for showing.
  21. #5 PGSR is my go to blade and I cut just about everything with it. I also used to use #7 for collapsible baskets when I was into them. Never had any problems with them
  22. I too am not a fan of bench top jointer. It is unstable and the short bed can make for uneven jointing. When you say larger projects, are these projects that are 3/4" thick and better??? Because if you are scrolling such projects biscuits will show. I use biscuits when making table tops or projects that are 3/4" thick. They are also a plus for aligning and strengthening the joint. But I make sure they are centered on piece and will not use on any thickness less than 3/4" With that said I have used mini biscuits on boxes to help strengthen those 45 degree joints. If you have a good table saw and a good quality full thickness blade you can cut edges ready for glue up without a jointer. If that does not work you can use a router to sweeten the edges.
  23. I too use jewelers blades to cut metal. I cut brass a lot and use 1/0 blades mostly. Copper is soft and it will gum up your blade easily. Cut all the brass on this project with jewelers blades.
  24. Thanks for the link. Put a pin in that one. Now if I only can remember to look where I put it when I need it
  25. Where can I get some patterns for these such as that Beatle one?? Are these for sale anywhere??? Or Elvis.
