OK I misread your post. Yes those hinges I bought off Amazon along with the mgnets. That was easy as it turned out. These LED lights used in these boxes look like the light bulbs they use if these LED flashlights. As I said I will take one apart and see what it is all about. Being an electrician I have some knowledge that I am sure I can incorporate. I did not even know they made these boxes untill you posted. Like I said I bought a bunch of the plain ones and the woods used and fit and finish is really good for China made and that is where they are from. Have to take those little stickers off if you buy them and use them. I make pens as you know and have a lighthouse pen that has a led light in the cap that is made to look like the beacon signal lamp. It can change colors and all. Now that wiring system is small as well as the batteries used. So today they can make anything.

I ordered a box from Amazon for $6 and actually is a nice box for a ring. I will look it over and reverse engineer it. These use small watch batteries. They from what I understand work on either a photo eye of sorts or a magnetic switch. But I also hear or read the led is not very bright. That is why you see all the photos with dark backgrounds. I am sure the photos are AI too. Supposibly the life time of battery is about 12 hours continuous use. Can not be replaced. I am sure there are ways around this. Could always use 2 lights if a larger box. Could be a nice addition. Kevin, you said you ordered the lights. Where did you get them? I want to play with some myself. Yes a LED is a light emitting diode so polarity is important. To take it another step. Many many years ago when fiber optic wire first came out, I worked in a plant that produced it and was able to get some to play around with. I thought back then that was the coolest thing invented. Now look what it can do. But I use to make models of all kinds and made a bunch of Ertel semi truck models. This was back when CB's first hit the market and all truckers were using them. Heck I even built my own power mike for my CB with parts from Radio Shack. But the fiber strands I was able to custom make my truck models with working headlights and tail lights and even lights on the dash. Lit the running lights and put lights in the sleeper part of the cab. I hid a 9V battery and light source under the bed with a small switch in the sleeper cab. It turned out pretty cool. Brings back memories.

I just did a quick search and you can get those boxes in all shapes just about anywhere. Saw them on Amazon, Etsy, Ebay Walmart. Alibaba you can get for $1 and even cheaper in bulk. I have to get a few to reverse engineer it.

I have a bunch of those boxes that I bought from one of those cheap sites. Can not remember right now. I have many different shapes. The reason I bought them was to use as ideas for my box making adventure I was suppose to start this past winter. ( will be making many many different type boxes for all occassions and I have been watching a woodworker on FB who makes fancy small little trinket boxes like this that got me excited about the prospect.) I sort of got sidelined when I went into reorganizing mode and man did I ever. It took me through the winter and seemed like every day I would find something new to either hang or make shelve for or something like that. I am just now putting the finishing touches on things. In fact just yesterday I decided to put a shelf under each of my RBI scrollsaws. That is actually alot of wasted space. I use to store things on the floor under them but this way it looks neater. So now I will store all my woodworking jigs I make and or buy. keep them all in one place. Out of the way and off the floor so I do not have to bend down so far to pick up. You think of things like that when you get old (LOL) If you are a woodworker of any kind you know jigs are a part of life. Sometimes I have more fun making them than the project but you find ways to make certain cuts or gluing parts easier and a need for them. There are alot of jigs that you can purchase but I like making many of my own. Getting back to the boxes, mine do not have the light but I like that idea. Where did you get them.?? I would like to incorporate that too. The boxes I have were dirt cheap and like you said probably about $5 bucks each. Have to say they are really well done. Come with felt linnings. If you want a ring box it comes with that type of felt to hold ring as shown in your example. yes the lid cutouts are plastic acrylic but look great. I could have gotten with sayings burned into them or you could order custom ones. These had to be cut on a CNC. Way too perfect. The tiny barrel hinges were not easy to find and the small magnets but they are out there. I believe got mine from Amazon.

Hang in there, there are a few people here that know those type saws inside and out and they will be able to help you. Once they see the questions. There also have been past threads on this so if you want you can do a search feature here to check them out in the mean time.

Well have to say that https://www.wood-database.com/yellowheart/ Pau Amerello is also known as Portugese yellowheart and thus the yellow tinge. I am not use to yellowheart being that whitish. The red palm matched with the black palm will make a nice combo. I can see some nice boxes made with that. I may at some time down the road get some of that. Sort of like the combo I will be using with Wenge and white wenge. lots of similarities. Enjoy the fruits of Mother Nature. look forward to seeing some cool projects.

No problem we will all find out when you get home. It is always so hard to tell species of wood by looking at a photo. Lighting can be off or have an effect and as I said there are so many different species of wood. I bought some woods from a vendor last couple months and some of the species I did not know existed. Luckly their photos of their woods was pretty accurate because when I got them I loved them because of the grains and colors. I never knew there was a White Wenge. I always used Wenge as an accent piece. Now I will pair that with the white wengie and it should make a nice combo. My vendor did not label the woods. But my last few times I asked him to. It is always nice when you can see in person the boards and pick them. I told the UPS driver yesterday that probably was the last order for quite awhile. he was getting a workout everytime he made a delivery which was from this wood vendor. I spent well over $2000 with them for woods. Will be doing some projects but looks like will have to wait till this winter because now is house projects that have to get done. I did get the shop all reorganized and cleaned up which took me much longer than expected this winter but I am happy about this because it makes working down there more easy and enjoyable. Plus got a few new toys too. Have a nice time on vacation and safe travels back.

Yes but none of the woods she listed are that white in color. Aspen and Sycamore are considered Domestics yes. I could have said Holly but that too is domestic and you rarely get any that wide of size. But it is white. That is all I am going by. I am sure she will tell us all whn she gets home. Hope they labeled it for her. I hate companies that do not put labels on their woods. There is thousands of species of woods and very tough to tell difference many times.

If I were to guess it looks like Aspen from how white it looks and hard to detect grain lines. not sure if you purchased any Aspen. It could be Sycamore but hard to see.

I have heard of all of them. I just placed an order with a vendor I have been dealing with too for some exotics and also some domestics. Planning on making a bunch of boxes and other projects. My ambition was to start this winter but I wound up doing a complete reorganizing of my shop which it really need it. Also bought a few new toys so set those up and built some cabinets and things for them. Hopefully next year around winter time i can then just dive right in because shop is about done and now the home projects come in play. Have fun on vacation and when you get back home to enjoy the many projects that are burried within those boards. Just a note of safety, wear dust protection on all of them and if you are allergic, rubber gloves too. The Sumac and bubinga are killers with the oils in them.

Could be the lacquer is waterbased. A different smell and yes takes longer to dry.

Yes that was the rage back then for puzzles. Has the formula changed any? Have no idea. Just bought not long agao some removable spray adhesive from that same company and it came in the same cans as it did many years ago so maybe they do not change formulas much.

It is for extra clamps. You can preload clamps and have them ready for use. Instead of changing blades out you can just change clamps with blades already to go.

You can put it on the same level as the Cell Phone stands. Are they really that big of a sale these days. You see lots of patterns for them of all kinds of designs. But is it really a seller?

I do not see the need for something like this. Todays phones have a tremendous speaker and if laid down the sound is actually too loud. I many times have to lower the volume on my phone. I can see these amplifying sound if that is what you are looking for but also see it muffling sound. With that said I do see where if you want your phone to stand up like that being speakers are on the bottom it can help. Good luck with the project. Not sure how many would get this reference but I equate Steve to be the Norm Abrams of scrollsawing as Norm is well known in the woodworking world that introduced us to the tool world as well as the make your own projects world. I put them both in that same class. I learned so much from watching Norm's shows over the years and he too was one of the nicest people when you meet him at shows. People like this are valuable assets to their fields. Steve's legacy will live on. As we older scrollers slowly pass on, hopefully a new generation carrys the torch and with it the legacy. RIP Steve.

Oh no!!!!! This is so sad. My condolences to his family in these times of extreme heartbreaks. The scrollsaw world both a huge man with a huge giving and caring heart and an extremely talented artisan. May he rest in peace.

Over the years there were many knock offs of the Jim Dandy lift tool. As mentioned easy to make. Papa' Woorkshop had a great idea and I included that video as on the bottom. If you look on ebay you maybe find a new or a resonably used one to replace. Not sure if Delta still offers them as replacable. It is an older saw.

There is an antique. Wow. They used the same blade clamps for quite awhile. The older P20 saws had those too and many users loved them. I do not know if the Pegas blade clamps are compatible to this saw but that is the clamp most people upgrade to. Might check with a vendor who sells them. I am sure someone will come here and mention a vendor for you. But you could stat doing a google search in the mean time. Good luck. I do not believe they work on that type saw but maybe they have different set ups. Why is not user friendly. That was one of the first style with a flip lever to hold blade. Once you set blade tension just flip open and close to do fret work. That is the new formula Deft. Less harmful. I use Deft or Watco. I too use a spray gun for water base finishes but usually only do that on large projects because I have to use large compressor.

They sell different thickness velcro. I suggest look in craft stores. They are more geared toward that as opposed to a hardware store or Home depot that will carry heavier duty velcro. As far as the magnet thing, they also sell different strength magnets used in electronics but I would be worried about the use of magnets and people with pace makers and or other metal body parts. Also magnets can mess with phones and watches. Looks like a cool idea.
