That windmill looks way better than the eiffels tower i just finished .Wish i'd have chosen the same wood as you then i would'nt have had to paint it to hide all the mistakes ,lol Very nice quality work. The joints are so tight that it looks like one piece.I'll give you first prize anyday for you craftsmanship.Good job!
  2. We all just put a 2x4 under the back of the saw or under the rear legs of your stand,Works for me!Thanks for asking billie!

  5. Hey billie ,how ya doin , Thats whats great about ssvillage, somebody knows the answer , Problem here is i have no idea what compound cutting is .Glad you came aboard to enlighten the crew what it is,. Ill keep guessing though till then.I like craftsman ,i have a 20" c-arm that really has me sold.it's made to last with 1/4 roller bearings in the back of the arm .should out last me,lol, and all the other bearing else where are roller bearings. I bought spray chain lube so they are lubed for life.Zero blade wobble too.I looked up compound cutting in the wiki section of ssv but it was empty.Help us out Thanks
  6. hello BILLY,How are you, i don't know if you have a scroll saw yet but this months "scrollsaw working and crafts"magazine as a nice section of 23 scrollsaws. The magazine store should have this magazine for you ,call ahead to see if they do ,save a trip.I hope you have a printer so you can get patterns from sites to cut.If you can set up the saw next to a window with a fan in it to draw the dust away from you and out of the house.tilt your saw towards you so you can see better when cutting.A foot switch is nice to have that acts like a third hand.Get a saw with the blade tension in the front not the back of the saw.A clamp on light is a big plus too so you can see better..a small drill press is a plus and a belt sander with a disc on the side really help out alot. The big box stores will have this at around $100. a piece.A good rule of thumb is three saw blade teeth in contact with the wood at all times.1/4 "wood would need 16 teeth per inch ,3/4 plywood would need about 12 ,more or less depending how fast you want to cut.and how smooth you want the edge to be. saw blades with teeth faceing up and down are called reverse tooth blades . They are very desirerable as you have little or no sanding to do when finished.they leave a clean cut on both sides of the wood with no tearing.these are little things to make scrolling alot more enjoyable for you .Welcome to the village You found a home!
  7. William ,you really got your hands full this time!what a exquizive project.Really belongs in the taj mahal.Or it is the taj mahal.this is right up your alley as you enjoy a challange! You may retire after this one, lol. My mouth drops open at all the detail.None of your customers will haggel on the price of this one i'm sure. money in the bank!Sorry you went through all the extra to get atarted, but it'll greatly reward you in the end. It's going to expose how talanted you really are around there and you'll be the talk of the town.More than likely you'll be in the paper there.People will come from all over just to see it.Stock up on tickets for the showing!lol.I'm going to send you 3 blue ribbons in advance to hang on it! Wow you can really pick em! Nobody can complain and jump on you and say it's not a scroll saw project!!!!!
  8. hello newbie,i have more fun here than a barrel full of monkeys .A day without the scrollsawvillage is like forgeting you cellphone when you leave home ,not a good feeling. So when i'm lookin around in the village i'm right where i want to be.Everything in herwe is vitamins for the eyes.Don't hesitate to ask about anything scroll related.there's even a section in the forum for unrelated stuff, receipes etc.Lets see where you been ,what you've done and where your interests lie.thanks for joining and enjoy your stay.
  9. Hey grampa, thats the majic question , what sells or sells well. I wish i knew the answer to that million dollar question .I hope somebody replys .I am so poor no money comeing in.Can do, but no work for the scroll sawer. It's a good thing i bought blades when i had money and they are holding up good for all i do. I'm hangin in there !
  10. good lookin addition to our library. One thing that keeps me out of trouble and i use all the time now is what steve good taught me.If your skills are'nt that good for a delicate cut ,don't get so close.Michael jacksons leg has a thin straight piece that allways gave me trouble till i learned that trick .I mean ,nobody knows that the line should have been alot closer to the edge than you put it,so that alone saves me from cutting threw in to the lake.!Now i'm not scared any more ,in fact bring it on!My head swims with all i learn in ssv!Keep up the great work!
  11. not bad,lol ,your stillone of the best lil ole pattern makers here at ssv!
  12. I thought it was money like a doubloon!
  13. Your work really makes my mouth water,it is astounding,Your quick too.Your wood library must be the horn of plenty. This bear has got to be the best of the best you've done to date .It is the bear of all bears.
  14. As far as i know it would be in the user control board ,which is just above your post of this question top left.I could be wrong but maybe not.
  15. no idea where he got it ,but i do remember that he modified it a bit.If i was a little better on the computer i could do so much more to help you. his post of the picture mysteryiously dissapead since the last time i looked at it ,if that had not happened i could go back and get that info for you.But if anybody knows how to get hold of " alata69" our member with a private message he could give you what you need.I tryed hard to do that and failed ,i just don't know the procedure. But i'm learning. Here at ssv i'm forced to learn more on the computer as i want to do more which is a blessing .Thank you ssv!
  16. Nice lettering and a very touching scene.I missed the draft or i might have been a pow too.Keep up the great work your good at what you do!
  17. This guy really STANDS out,Where's the picnic basket, lol .Your choices of woods and strategic placement of grain angle are top shelve.I'll bet there's a waiting line too.I'm in shock looking at this guy it's that good!Excellant job my friend!
  18. Happy 4th Norm and Laverna!I can't imagine scrolling without electricity! Now that you have the q3 the skys the limit as nothing to hold back your dreams of what you want to do.Deltas been a favorite of mine.Congadulations on the blue ribbons!I worked next to you in hood river oregon 1976 for dell monte.Man is the water cold up there right out of the faucet!Noah's ark looks very delicate, how big did you make yours.Your ideas are really cool ,a mail box of the barn you own.I've though of taking a snap shot of a home and make a wall hanger{scroll sawed} out of it with the words God bless our home on it.Can't wait to eyeball your work, does the better half scroll too, lol. There's so much to learn in the village i'm overwelmed, never a dull moment here.Welome my friend and enjoy our company, your in good hands here!
  19. i found gold! yep that's the best way i can discribe it.Freike steered me in the right direction when he told me about the village university.I had never gone in it because i thought it was for learning how to draw.Only because it says to sharpen your pencils. If i'd only known! This is what iv'e been dreaming about. The knowledge that can be unlocked in here is worth more than gold.I am amazed!!!
  20. I see you've been busy.Nice job.One thought can the mommy sit in a chair and rock this with her foot while crocheting or reading a book?Is cotton wood very light and easy to scroll?A weighted pendulum hidin some where could keep it rocking for a while too, just a thought. My new scroll saw is a craftsman too a 20" c-arm .i love it ,very quiet.Another fine job from the master ,Hows your sales been with your other projects?
  21. I used to use the 77 spray glue right on the wood and stick the pattern right on top of it.Works good ,too good and i really struggled to remove it from the wood. Then when i'd sand it the paper would clog right away. Now i use tempory glue ,spray on the bare wood ,stick the pattern on while its wet and smooth out the pattern.I'll do my cuttings and remove easaly with mineral spirits. I'll brush the spirits on let it soak into the paper and no matter how delicate all the cuts were the paper comes off in one piece. Then i'll brush the wood again and wipe off any residue left behind. After thousands of patterns this has been the best for me.quick.
  22. Their's a style i have'nt seen before, good looking effect.I have'nt seen rounded corners on any work either. I think i'll pick up on that as i can't afford frames to make them look better. The fishin hole boy has been on the to do list ,looks like you beat me to it,lol.I think your wood is thicker than 1/4" maybe. That adds to depth too.Great job!
  23. here it is I searched back in the bragging rights to february and it was there last time i posted here but there's quit a few months disappeared now, february being one of them. Luckily i save it when i found it last time .so here it is.This was done by our member ALATA 69 BACK IN FEBRUARY.It's about 2' tall.
  24. JERRY,how are ya!lolWell you've found the best place to be. I spend more time in the village then in the refrigerator.lol.this is the best pass time i have every found .Can't wait to see what you've been up to all these years.Load up your gallery and show us how it's done up there.I have'nt seen and one in the flea market down here.Am curious as to how thats working out for you.do you do on the spot things there?like a quick name or caricatures
  25. Is'nt that funny ,i was thinking about those two pictures awhile back and though they were way out of my limits of time to spend on a project. Now i have a very good refrence point to refer to.I,m going too show my friend your cuttings as he allways asks me how long did that one take. When i show him yours and tell him a week ,i bet his mouth drops open .Thats incredible you have the patience to do that kind of work!great job ! :)I've done a couple that took none stop 8 hrs and one 12 hours resently. The cars take time. Now a out line cut with a chisel took 6 hours on the face of jesus.
