  4. Matt ,how you doin,There's been quite a few times that scrollers have asked what the best way was to cut acrylics.Looks like your the man to clue us in on that one with your expertise! I'd like to see a 12 year saw dust pile, lol. My sister lives in west carolton ohio, church on every corner there. There's an encyclopedia of info in the forum, search and find or post and ask.Either way you get the right answer soon enough. We'd be more than happy to see your work,so post away. There's free popcorn on saturdays welcome to ssv!
  5. Hello Art, that's a good trick,a stich in time saves nine.I'm sure you aliveiated a big problem putting the cut piece back in.Sometimes the pieces are so small you can't put them back.i've held the piece with my finger so it did'nt vibrate as i cut many times but cringed doing so.Good point to pass on to us.Thanks.
  6. Hey jim ,they do look good.looks like the waters missing for the bear cause he's got no feet, lol.well thats another notch on you belt of things you've done.Have you made a 85 piece,8" x 10" puzzle yet.they take about 2 hours to cut and everything.Any 2/0 blade should be good for them.your a real scrollaholic!Hows those ornaments coming along. Great job again, maybe obama would like one or two.Just kidding.I think about his rubber stamp now and then.your the only one i know who's work made it into the white house.Again congradulations.
  7. well Brian thats beginners luck and i'm jealouse.I have weeks of intarsia experience and you put me to shame on your first attempt , lol.Thats about as nice a rose as they come.Just full of character, nice 3 d effect.Looks as though your going to be scrollsawvillages intarsia king real soon!Keep them posted ,your setting the stage for new things here. All i could see to make it a 11 would be a longer stem to put it all in perspective, but you still get a 99 and an a plus.i'm very impressed at your work!
  8. MARGRET TRY AGAIN ,TRY TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU POSTED ,ZIP
  9. WELL THATS NICE ,I'D LIKE TO HEAR YOUR IDEA!
  10. THATS REAL NICE ,AND BEFORE I ENLARGED THE PICTURE I THOUGHT THE ROSE WAS INLAY.THE WAY YOU DID IT IT'S MORE PERSONAL.I MEAN EVERYTIME SHE GOES TO THE BOX THE ROSE FROM YOU WANTS TO JUMP INTO HER HAND,VERY VERY NICE TOUCHING EFFECT.PUTS DAD ON HER MIND IMMEDIATELY.I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THE LOCK AS I NEVER SEEN ONE LIKE THAN .ANOTHER INGENIOUS IDEA,TALK ABOUT SHE'S YOUR BABY ,IT SHOWS.EXCELLENT JOB!
  11. Very nice cutting Tony,What blades did you use and how big was the project. When your inspired to do something they tend to look even nicer than antisapated.Great cutting .Sue doe's a fine job patterning for us and in all topics and varietys.Your mom would be proud to see it and i'm sure she was watching you cut it .thanks for the close -up as i tend to look a projects at about 400 power.Thats me.I like to contemplate whats going to happen before i get to the corner or on a long straight run. It's alot like driveing down the road looking through your eyes.Great job tony.
  12. GMRNeck.i laughed so hard at your commontary. It really struck my funny bones, thanks i needed that. You were suggestive, supportive, authoritive and encourageing all in one breath! My folks wore out several boards of education on me.Problem with that was my dad was creative and would come up with a better mouse trap every time. The one that got my attention best had holes drilled in it 1/2" size. That baby hurt! And was the only one he made where you definetly could not sit down for a while. And it can be scrolled too.lol
  13. All blades need to go very slow in the corners except spirals.Thats where the heat builds up ,stress and strain is at it's greatest, and if you want to break a blades just turn quick. Some times i'll widen the turnaroud corner with a few extra cuts to help lessen the heat and strain on thick or hard woods. If the tension is not tight the blade wants to break fast too.hope that helps."mike @mikes workshop.com" has spirals with flat ends .They are the easyest to attach to your saw.I highly recomend them to anybody ,especially beginers if you want to try spirals.Hope this helps.
  14. Jim i like this one alot.Very creative and brought back memoriers of one i did with an air brush at least 10 years ago.the picture is close to the one in an airbrush magazine.Your very creative unlike me.You must have a good woman behind you, they'll make or break you!Hope you like this and will inspire more creativety from you.I can see that your relaxed in all your drawings which helps alot. You really post good stuff today.Keep them rollin in . New blood for the club.Your a mover and a shaker.Great work Jim,blessings, amazingkevin when you click on the picture you'll have to zoom down to 50 per cent to see it better, don,t know what happened that it's so big, thanks
  15. Show us what you've done, your better than you know. We'll be glad to help you any way we can. There's a wealth of information in the forum here.Everyday i learn something i did'nt know or thought i knew.Tell us what saw your useing and what you,ve been scrolling.Welcome and feel at home here. I check in many times a day to see what i've missed ,it's that good!
  16. Sometimes i hook a paper clip to it and dip in the paint ,let hang and wipe off the hanging drip before it's dry. I do this with keychains and clear concrete sealer. The sealer is very strong and thick like honey. Makes for a long lasting durable scratch proof finish. As it's againsts a pocket full of keys allways trying to scratch them.I dip things in stain too if soft wood. If hard wood i'll wipe off the exceess and hang dry. What ever works for you go for it! :)Dipping the compound project in one color ,let dry and just paint the outsides ,very nice clean looking job, totally painted inside out.
  17. Good thing you posted tonight ,now all my small pieces of wood can be oraments.I have many 5 gallon bucket full of small thin wood . Donateing the ornaments to handicaped kid schools sounds good to. they will love them!I can see them smileing allready.Maybe the teacher will let them paint with finger paints. Thanks for the ideas.
  18. Lookin good JIM,Both photos have the 3d effect, good job, about how many ornaments do you stock up on for the holidays, and friends. You must buy blades by the gross with all you do in a year. How's that truck repair comein along?
  19. A stiff tooth brush or soft wire brush the same size breaks the fuzzy too.The flutter wheel is by far the quickest way in your drill.use a pocket drill ,the 3 volt size for ease and gentleness with the flapwheel sander attachment.
  20. I am over whelmed at you JIM! You have climbed the ladder to the top .You can't go any higher then that.Imagine that ,You turn every stone over with your work.Looks as though the skys the limit now and this was one giant leap.I'm shaking my head as i'm amazed .When it rains it pours with blessing around your shop.Congradulation!Great job

  23. If it's hard wood i save 1"x 1" as i want to do and eagle and there's going to be alot of small feathers smaller than that and progressively get bigger. If it's 1/8" i save 2" x 3" for cheap intarsias.3" x4" for card puzzles. and 2" x5" for steve goods door mouses.I quit looking for free wood now that i 'm learning to do intarsia as all sizes work out well now.
  24. Niice one ART .She a hottie.Great smooth cutting job.I was'nt allowed to watch her as a kid! I went to the site "clker but don't know what i'm looking for.
  25. Mr MALC,I can help on this .I use alot of expensive acrylic paints (artists type) not house paint and ran across the same problem of ,soaking up material. Now i spray clear on the edges, let dry and one coating of my acrylic paint, will cover in one coating.Another thing i found out about staining ,is when you stain soft wood it sucks up way to much stain that can't be wiped off like hard woods.Again the same trick i learned from a guy that do'es doors proffessionaly,(staining). Thanks for asking as i forget all i know at times in a rush to get something out the door.i hope somebody comes out with a book of these tips for us woodheads!lol.
