  1. Howdy everybody,I got this brand new scroll saw for a song.We were both happy but come to find out the reason he got rid of it (guesstamation)is you can't fit your hand in the bottom blade changeing hole.I thought about it and a quick fix was to drill out 1/4" holes in progression and remove the stock hidering access. One of the pieces i took out is gone but to give you an idea what i did. The original hole was 2.5" x 2.5".Now it's 4.75" x 3.25".My hand needs at least 4" to be comfortable changeing blades thats why a lot of saws i can't use.Now i'm good to go for detail small work ,like keychains etc.My c-arm craftsman was a bit to much for it but i did do it.He"s a bigger man than me and all he wanted to do was make one puzzle for his daughter, works for me!
  2. Howdy scrollers , I purposely borrowed a dollar from my new friend yesterday for this project. It took just short of 2 hours by 10 minutes.50 minutes on the saw cutting it.First one i made ,but have had 10 patterns ready to cut since steve good put it up for us at scrollsawworkshop.com.Won't my friend be surprized when he gets his dollar back.I was going to do a works in progress but forgot, next time.
  3. hello STEVEN , i was just teaseing you with a compliment. but yes you can do a basket with a scroll saw . Steve good has a few on his do it your self site .But it looks like your climbing the scroll saw ladder at two rungs at a time.this is a good thing. To add reall pazezz to the name rout the edge with a dremil with the right attachment. Wish i had that attachment .That will spiff it up many notchs (bamm).how do you like your new saw?Putting the name on a stand is a welcome thing to do too.Gives it more caracter, actually any thing more you do to the name takes it up a notch .funny i don't listen to myself ,lol.
  4. marvalous job on the basket STEVEN your a real romantic!lol
  5. I love it,more more , we all need stuff like this !That's thinking!
  6. aha ,you found gold.i love reading about scroll saw tests and especially ones i wore out. i could add several more tips to the dremil , not my choice either . my brand new one is under the bench as a back up, thats what i think of it!lol
  7. Glad to have your company mike ,and we'll learn from you too.Open up your own gallery here to store your works ,patterns and a place where we can see what you've done.I learn something everyday here !Arms open welcome!
  8. i gotta hand it to you .your a go getter.Nice hand at the keychain lettering,i've never seen cherry for a keychain and i like the way it looks. You really push your saw to the limits! good boy !What blades do you use for the keychains?Id like to see you in action again on video that last one was amazing woodburning.
  9. Hello MAX, Glad to have your company. We'll drain your brain for your expertise in 30 plus years if given the chance.I'm a delta man myself .Of 7 or 8 saws i've had ,i'll take a delta.Show us your shop setup .Open up your own gallery to save patterns ,store your works and send private messages to fellow members all from the forum or user gallery.Spend some time going in and out of everyplace you can find to go in scroll saw viillage. there's unlimited information here at your finger tips .Can't find an answer ,just ask ,someone will be with you shortly.Enjoy your stay and make some saw dust fly!
  10. Your doing a great job teaching us the ropes of the dw788,Funny how you can't get all your eggs in one basket, there's allways room for improvement.this saw has so many upgrades from the chinese saws but is still lacking. I'm curious that there are no oiling points.
  11. looks like you could use my "blue air 503 air" cleaner to keep the boss happyer! If i'd have though of it in time we could have traded.Super quite and show room clean on wheels. My thoughts on collecting your dust would be a cardboard box constrution ,quick and easy fabrication and light weight.Around the saw table with a gap between the box and the outside perimiter of the saw to catch what falls in the saw and off the cutting table.Tape could hold it all together and conect your vac umn in the backof it.I can't stand the vacumn noise so i work in the dineing room right next to the a.c. intake with a paper fiter .Works for me .
  12. I thoroughly enjoy your findings and posts on the dw788.i had no idea there was no vacumn coupling on the machine, wonder why.Your shop is hospital clean, looks great!

  15. Hey JIM ,how you doin, I got to remember to do name in the puzzle fashion. They are the coolest thing to look at.Your the best when it comes to ideas!
  16. Very good ART ,i see your a dw788 mechanic now ! lol Blade angle like your talking about only causes a tee pee cut effect on thicker woods ,especially harder ones i've notest. my table used to go out of align frequently till i examined the problem and remidied it .I leaned on the table move the saw around constantly to cut larger items and cause alot of stress to the table alignment settings offen.Your veiw of the blade angle is one i don't have in my records of the yellow bird, thanks for the heads up on that one. No matter what it seems you can't have all the eggs in one basket with out a broken one, lol.Your saw delievery was in record time.Keep us posted regularly so we can keep up with your findings.
  17. You welcome to open your own gallery to store your works in .The forum here is a wealth of scrolling info and invaluable for seasoned scrollers and newbies alike. I'm allways learning something everyday in it.We'll even teach you how to convert a photo to scroll work easyley.I'm a old fart pushin 60 around the waist and in age so your at home !lol. Enjoy you time spent in ssv.scrollsawvillage.It took me a year to learn what ssv ment, lol, enjoy

  21. Hey Art , My guess is it's a hold down for shipping purposes only .Get ready to aim,
  22. Thanks pauley, i love what i do !
  23. Whoah, That looks real good! The fur shapes really make it good.Outstanding cutting Pauley, very clean cutting.
  24. Thank you STEVEN i love recocnition and thrive on it .that's a tough item to get!
  25. thank you marg,I thank you for the compliment .their allways welcome and needed! On the spirals i hated them with a passion till Greasemonkeyredneck set me straight on the proper way to set them up.first use two plyers to straighten out the ends of the blade so they slip right in your blade holders, second tight as you can go with blade tightening ,thats the trick,i found also that a thin spiral is like a rubberband ,it will bend off course to easy but a thick spiral won't.and third go at least twice as slow or slower when cutting, take your time.I now love spirals when i learned the idiosyncasits of them.No more spining spining spining of the project. You do have to be carefull even more with spirals as looking away for what ever reason the blade keeps cutting away.Hope this helps make a believer out of you .It did me!
