  1. i just lay my saw on top of a very dense exercise mat and not bolt the saw down.My saw loses tension too when the blade holders are not tight enough.Check out Stevegoods "scrollsawworkshop.com"It's full of tips and ideas.
  2. Mr.clockman,Thank you for the tour de scrollsawers.I enjoyed looking at all the talant. You got my vote regardless.Yours were the ones i liked in both frames,6 &the last one.Everything was so mismached. Here's work, that days if not weeks of time were spent to complete compeating with work that was done in 1/10 of the time.I came up with well over a dozen catogories and stopped there. This contest was like a karate match against white and black belts.Oh well it's just for fun.I chose yours for clarity, appealing and skill. So in my opinion you allready won, next!I'm glad i came as it makes me ponder to get and do better.Which is my favorite scrollsaw project, the next one!
  3. Is it lemon oil furniture polish your talking about?Or something in a quart can from the hardware store or depots? The only stain i have is mahogany somebody gave me ,and very little at that.I have zero experience staining.Does min wax have lemon oil.I will check out what you say .sounds good to me .Anything to make it look good .Thanks
  4. Free wood,Thats all i use!One man junk is my treasure!Thin wood is nice as there's less dust to contend with in the house.1/2" oak and maple from chest of drawer ,drawer sides,Thrown away cabinet backs are somethimes very nice multi ply type wood.I have poplar given to me to do keychains with but think is too soft to hold up in pockets and purse clutter.Wood window blinds are conveient for neckless pendants and thin keychains.Outside louvered door, door slates are good for keychains and pendants but don't know what kind of hardwood they are.Baby beds are great prefinished wood for name stands and the slates are perfect for keychains, they are a hardwood too but don't know what kind.Probably oak would be my favorite as it helps you on cutting turns as a resting place with out marring the wood,it gives you a controled predictable speed you can trust.I mean there's no voids that will cause you to advance to fast and over shoot your target. It sturdy so thin cuts don't break and cause you headaches.a customer is bringing a piece of olive for a pendant.we'll see how that goes soon.Pine is ok for free fast quick stuff that does'nt matter. It breaks too easy .I did 774-, 4.5" tall letters, names on a stand, and if they fell over trasporting they allways broke.i don't like pine.I like these "what your" posts alot .Keepem comin!
  5. Yeah! more pictures i love looking at other peoples work ,no matter how bad it makes me look .Gives me inspiration to someday get there too.A real tough and durable walk on sealer i use on my keychains and puzzles when i run out of spray, 2x clear by rust oleum is, concrete sealer. it's crystal clear and drys very fast.Comes in a 5 gallon bucket and should last you a life time.Spray cans are real convienient but don't last long when you try to build up the thickness. The seal (concrete) is scratch proof too!It has a very strong smell to it and you may not like it .I pour it on a puzzle that is level and let it run off the elevated puzzle, let it dry, belt sand the bottom of the puzzle and cut out the pieces. It resembles the epoxy coated restaurant tables that have coins or articules embeded in the epoxy.Probably 50 coats in one pour on application, beautyfull shine and looks like plasic.Hope this helps .
  6. I used the quick fix my using a tennis ball mounted under the bottom arm with a hole drilled in the ball to put your air hose.Worked better than the original set up.
  7. Wow thats more than i ever dreamed of ,but they do look nice.I'll check out both places ,travis and christina.Ive asked $20 bucks for the cars i did on ssv, same for the portraits from ssv,I was asking a buck a letter for the keychains and the beach scene names $5 bucks a letter with no complaints.I do spend alot of time but it's all practice makes perfect time and a couple of bucks here and there helps put food on the table a little.Got my new blades from mikes today and they are thin ,thin as they go as i want to do more intracate detail work as i get into scrolling more and more.Love you all for in responces and help you offer to everyone.Home sweet home in ssv.Barry and trimax you'll be on my mind as i'm scrolling .That info was great ,it even help my posture!lol
  8. I 'm curious as to the value of scrolled work.I've never seen anything priced thats scrolled.Your valued input would greatly be appreciated.Ball park figures are fine.please and thankyou. From clocks, puzzles, portraits, cars, crosses jewery boxs etc. thanks.
  9. Thats a beauty to look at .It's like taking a vacation sitting in your chair!Hard to beat!
  10. i did so much cutting on found plywood 3/4"and kicked up so much dust and mess .If i'd have known that i could do the same thing on thin wood and have a little dust that would be great. My favorite blade to use on the plywood was a .016,16 teeth per ".I had no uses for the tiny blades that came in the variety pacs at home depot.I had no idea what someone would use them for either. Now thats all i want to use.Finding ssv by accident proved to be the best thing that ever happened. The magazines are limited to a few ideas and forte's, here at ssv the pattern library has exactly what you need when you need it all in a click.Finding out about scrolling has helped me make money when there was no other way of making money, especially at home at your leisure.SSV and the rapid resizer by patrick have been the biggest help for me to make money.I found SSV thru steve good. But the best part is if i knew how much fun all this is ,thats the thing i would have changed along time ago.!
  11. I stacked foam rubber under the tension knob at the back of the saw .It slowed down the slippage alot and i don't remember if it stoped i compleatly,i,ve had a lot of saws.
  12. I like seeing things post in" tif" size that way you can click on it and really blow them up to see scratchs & &dents &boo's etc. I love to observe details like that too see what was happening while they are being cut.
  13. I'm in!sounds interesting,informative and imaginative! lets GO!
  14. thanks DALE for letting the cat out of the bag. Your good like that. I could use all the shortcuts i can get with these puzzles you got me started with.A.C. MOORE is right down the street and i,ll see what they have .Money is so tight .I,m sorry i could'nt buy all of your half price puzzlemas for xmas.I can barely afford blades from mikes.Last order i got from mikes i orderd everything wrong.I was to meticulous and picky and lost track of what i was trying to do and got all extra heavy duty course cut blades instead of extra fine thin as you can go blades.I read the teeth per inch wrong and thought i was getting teeth per 1/4" as i used that way to figure out how many teeth are in an inch without counting every last one in an inch .My mistake.I'll just have to do with what i have .A lesson well learned i'll tell you that.I don't want to return the blades cause i'm stubborn and i like the blades even though i may not use them.I've tryed elmers glue on a sanded piece of wood ,spray headliner glue, extra wet temp bond glue and 5 minute epoxy glue to fasten the puzzles to the wood. All too time consuming but work with what i have .Good thing i had a small supply of handyman glues to chose from .I love to cut puzzles and keychains. They really demand your attention .I love to think as i'm doing these demanding tasks.
  15. I sit on a chair with a back and has wheels to snug up for fine detail.I made arm rests around my saw as the arms get heavy.Arms being suported i,m allways in position to do what i gotta do .Most of the work i love to do involves my fingers ,so the arms and hands lay relaxed as the fingers do all the work.I haven't done but a couple of stained items,as i don't have but a small baby food bottle of mahogony stain.I like to spray clear enamel or clear lacqeur on things. For that extra tough extra shine and rough service like a keychain i use concrete sealer which is crystal clear.Drys too fast so you have to work quick .With the key chains it's tedious as the sealer is allmost like honey and clogs small holes like the insides of o's,a's,d's,b's.For them i use after dipping a used saw blade and run through the holes to squeege out the liquild while they hang on a hook. This all needs to be done while the key ring on it to control it's movements somewhat as you drain and squeege out the excess liquild.Time consumeing but i love what i do and the results are worth it.Little pay lots of fun.
  16. best all wood vehicle i have seen yet.The wheels really impress me.Actually they look to good!Flawless work of art, astonishing quality transposed from a tree!
  17. Thank you messman. You are very correct.I learn so much about computers here at the ssv.I went to help in the computer ,went to photo size and got all the info i needed and now it works too good as the picture is super when you click on it.I wish all photos in the village would go that big.I love to put myself in the cutters place cutting and go through the trials and tribulations of cutting differant items.Iknow it sounds strange but thats me.I feel what you feel in tight turns winding runs .I just enjoy scrolling so much i like it better than sex!Thank you so much for setting me straight on the first shot.I've fumbled around to long thehard way and a friend got me out of harms way... YOU...!!! Thanks again I'm really really happy at what you taught me today.your my computer guru!
  18. i want to be able to click on it like all the rest of the pictures in the gallery to see it a full page ,if not for me,other members. I click on every picture of finished work to look at detail. What can be done to change that.Even in my own personal gallery i cannot go full page with it.This is the only photo ever i have run across this strange phenomena!
  19. Howdy group! This is a first for me to run into this kind of problem. My user gallery pictue of james and wife at wedding won't enlarge when you click on it . new one for me?Anybody know why, i,m curious about things like that. Please and thank you
  20. Thats really top shelve for quality ,precision, accuracy! i leave nothing out for this kind of forte.Hard to beat. This is the cats butt in scrolling.I think it's as high as one can go .He really excells at his hobbie.Should be cutting parts for NASA.Chills run up my spine admireing the time ,patience and endurance renderd by this man .He goes the extra mile on all of his work like greasemonkeyredneck, two peas in a pod . I can,t elaborate enough on both of these men ,my hat is off too you both!4 stars to each!
  21. I started out with a tiny dremil someone gave me .i never used it as he said he used it to build airplanes .lost my interest right there. Then i aquired another one years later and found a book about things you could do with it.My friend was dieing and i wanted to scroll out his name ,rank and serial number regiment ,squad etc.you should have seen his face when i gave it to him .He said i was really trying to get on the good side of him. Then being out of work 1/2 a year i came up with an idea to make people keep me on there mind with the handyman stuff i do . I know they are going to throw out the flyer of stuff i can do sooner or later but if i make their name on a stand with a painted beach scene across the name w/ coco trees ,coconuts, clouds etc they won't throw that away .I engraved my name ,handyman and bible verses on the bottom of the stand.I made 774 of these and so far only one lady called. She was the biggest dollar customer i ever had in 30 years.I took well over 1/2 an hour to do one letter. Most names i did were 5,6,7,8,9,letters long. That was my scrolling warm up for the things i do today.Patience pays. It's very relaxing to do scrolling and thats all i want to do now.Keychains are my specialty. All finger movement and the hands stay stationary.intreages me to do them.I'd love to try words but saw blade blurryness won't allow me to do them.Thats really the cats butt to be able to do them i think.Probably the hardest type of scrolling to do in my book.well that me in a nut shell! If you click on the flyer to view then view in 50% magnification, then in 50% magnification you can read it easyer. The philippines name is an example of the time and work i did to all the 774 names i did. Thanks for looking
  22. I forgot about the brand new dremil 1830 i never uesed when dremil honered there warranty and sent me a brand new one instead of fixing the old one . I requested a new top arm with roll pins to keep the saw going 2 years instead of one. They are not making scroll saws anymore. I am totaly pleased with the detla ss250 with quick release blade holders ,which broke and i did a quick fix with a (one) rubber band and it works BETTER than new,go figure!I'm going to leave it like that as it's a better mouse trap now.The dremils just going to be a paper weight on the floor. Will up grade trade for a better deltas, maybe a ss350 if someones interested.Zero time on the dremil.
  23. Your right about that DAN .The more i get into scrolling i find that just a drill press is'nt a cure all for this type work .I have many dremils and need to look into there hand held press soon. The $99 buck drill press is what i use from the home tool supplys depot ,or lowes.Harbor freight is a good low price option.
  24. Mines in the dining room which we don't use!
