  1. Prayers for fast healing and quick pain relief. I had my L5-S1 fused about 66 years ago, and will likely need the L5-L4 down before too much longer. What a relief after it was done!
  2. I built one of these carts about 4 years ago. It's about 10" long and the people bob up and down as you push it along. I'm wondering if anyone here might have an idea where I might locate another pattern? I unfortunately managed to lose mine. Thanks.
  3. Weird, bizarre, strange, odd....... some of the words that come to mind after having watched this thing. Of all the Marvel movies I've seen to date, this one is most definitely the worst of the bunch!! Yes, some of the one liners from Ryan Reynolds and the others were hilarious, and Morena Baccarin is always pleasant to watch. (I thought she was great in Firefly and Serenity). But beyond that, ...... meh. There are a lot of movies that I will watch more than once. This ain't one of them.
  4. Hey Sully, you beat me to it, I was just about to post that I too have been lurking in the shadows. Life has been "interesting" the past year, and now in the midst of the seasonal craft fair push. Hopefully things will get closer to normal after Thanksgiving. Still check in from time to time to see what folks are up to.
  5. We do both. Learned to avoid "First Annual" shows like the plague! We also avoid any shows with Flea or Sale in the title. Folks going to those are looking for flea market/garage sale prices. We do wooden toys. jewelry boxes, baskets and crosses. Juried shows while costing more, are usually established, have good history of attendance and advertise more.
  6. Was reading a notice from Steve Good about General international, the maker of the Excaliber, was having issues again. So checked the Seyco website, and sure enough, all of their Excalibers are listed as temporarily Out Of Stock! When I bought my Anniversary Edition a few years ago they had stopped shipments because of a design issue. I wonder what the problem is this time?
  7. I don't get out here as often as i like, but I am still lurking and reading regularly! I been commissioned once again to make some things for the Sacramento Children's Museum. This time it's a series of small buildings, some of which resemble the major hotels in the area. (The museum received a donation from the local hotel association) I admit, not a whole lot of scrolling on this project, but some! The buildings are made from 4 pieces of 3/4 birch, and all are keyed with either dowels or tabs so they only go together one way, and the building pieces only fit each other. Thanks for looking.
  8. Thanks for the kind words folks. It was ordered as a memorial for one that crossed the rainbow bridge last year. It's due to be delivered to her today, hope she likes it.
  9. Not blue pine DW, it's plain old pine with MinWax grey stain. The body is 1" pine stair tread, wheels and legs are cut from 1/2 and 3/4" pine.
  10. Custom order completed and shipping out tomorrow. This makes the 4th different species so far!
  11. The whole thing is lacquered. I use an Olsen #5PGR blade to give a little more clearance between pieces and tray. I also use #220 sandpaper to radius the edges of the cutouts and letters.
  12. That is fantastic, love the finish!!
  13. Ever open the laptop, login, and then not have a single clue as to what you meant to look up? Yup! This is my theme song!! Senior Moments
  14. It seems lately that about once a week or so I leave the house without my cell. Sometimes I realize it before I get more than a block or two from home, but sometimes I'm miles away. So I decided to do something about it! (The real trick was remembering it when I got home!) A small piece of 1/4" maple, a couple of 1/4" rare earth magnets and about 15 minutes and this is now on the door to the garage. Will it solve the problem? We shall see!!
  15. I make the patterns using the Word Art font. I print it at 72 and then blow it up to the 4" height I use. I then close the loops on letters like A< B< D> O R etc. Of course this means gluing the center pieces back in after the front and back are glued, but it makes the letters stronger.
  16. Thanks folks. I truly wish folks would listen when I answer their questions. A lady we know saw these and asked how long and how much if she ordered three. I told her how much and said it would take 2 weeks. She promptly then asks me if she can have them in 6 days!!! After I explained to her that with drying time and a minimum of 48 hours to let the lacquer top coat cure it was doubtful she said ok and went away. I may have lost a sale, but as you know, if you rush the sanding and finishing you get a crappy result. Plus I learned the hard way I don't even start a custom order until I have payment in hand so a couple days would be lost there waiting for paypal.
  17. Wombatie, I mix the food coloring with denatured alcohol to the intensity I want. Then I make a 50/50 mix of shellac and denatured alcohol, and give the pieces a light coat before staining. It seals the wood a bit and helps minimize blotchy-ness. I use a light coat and make sure to wipe off excess. Letting it dry an hour or so and then adding a second coat really intensifies the color. I let them dry overnight and then put on 2-3 coats of clear lacquer.
  18. I did one of these a little while ago for a friend to give as a Christmas present. A friend of hers saw it and ordered 3, one for her daughter and two as gifts. They are made from two layers of 1/2" baltic birch ply, colors are food coloring, then 3 layers clear lacquer. The letters are 4" high. Thanks for looking.
  19. Good job, I like making puzzles!
  20. Here we have the first two vehicles in a construction set I'm working on. It will also have a front loader, dump truck and bulldozer. They will be 6 to 9" long. These are prototypes, still need shaping and sanding. Likely minor changes will be made in the process. Thanks for looking I now have all five vehicles in various stages of completion. .I will be redesigning the scoop and arms for the front loader as I don't like the current design. Also considering re doing the base of the shovel, will have to see.
  21. Phantom if you look here: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/87999and scroll down through the comments you will find my sketches of all the bits for it. Enjoy!
  22. That is nice!
  23. I designed the forklift about a year and a half ago to hold a set of four pallet coasters. Since then I have done them in many different color schemes per customer request, but this was the first to request a specific logo. Couldn't find one I liked, so what the heck, I made one! Thanks for looking.
  24. Merry Christmas Roly, and to everyone here in the Village.
  25. We have wrapped up from our final craft show of the holiday season, time to take a little time off from the shop to recuperate, (ain't as young as we used to be! ) Next on the schedule of things to do is a complete re-do of my shop. I want to pull everything but the built in cabinets and benches and clean and then re-organize the machines to get a better flow. To do this I would like to construct two flip-top carts, one for the planer and oscillating belt sander, and one for my chop saw and belt/disc sander. Oh, and maybe a router table, always wanted one of those!! Anyway that will allow me to get rid of a table that in addition to holding three of the four mentioned, is a magnet for "stuff" so I am constantly trying to find things on it. I've had great fun here on the forums, and I'm grateful for the wonderful folks I have met here. Thank you all for your kindness. Wishing Everyone a Merry Christmas or Holiday Celebration of choice, and the best for 2016!!
