  1. You make a valid point Ranger Jay. The pictures were taken before I painted the ring black. I use a thin black cord with a wooden handle to finish it off.
  2. The latest dragon has been finished. I'm not sure, but I think this might be the 6th one i've done. It started with an article in a 2000 issue of Woodworking by a Mr. Hutchinson.I loved his design, but I wanted something a little more, well,,,,, dragon-ey. I used the article as the basis for my design, refining the shape of the body, head and tail, then adding articulated front legs. This version uses black walnut, maple and cherry. All four legs as well as tail, wings and head move when it is pulled along. Yes, it is a pull toy! Dragon Video
  3. Happy New Year Everybody!! So happy to see 2016 in the rear view, Praying 2017 is a return to sanity and co-operation and understanding.
  4. After about 10+ hours of work I got all the pieces ready for finish, just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. All the actions have been verified, and the pre-assembly in the body and head area.
  5. i was at a local convenience store and the total was $4.05. Not wanting a pocketful of loose change I gave the cashier a $5 bill and a nickel. He handed back the nickel, said I had given him too much, and proceeded to count out 95 cents in change. Aarrgghh!!!!!
  6. Good ones Jerry, Many thanks for the laughs!!
  7. Here is a slightly fuzzy picture of the last one I made.
  8. I have almost all the bits cut out for another of my dragon toys. Not shown are the axles, the cams and the eyes. It started from a design I found in a woodworking magazine a few years ago. I fiddled and tweaked the design, making minor changes here, major changes there, till I ended up with this one. When finished, the mouth opens and closes, all 4 legs "walk", the wings swing up and down, and the tail bobs up and down. This one is being made from black walnut, maple and cherry. Thanks for looking.
  9. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year back at ya, and to all here on the forum.
  10. I would love to visit the Memorial to pay my respects, just not sure if it will happen. I do fly my American Flag 24/7 (solar powered light for night time) to honor all who have/are/will serve to protect us and our freedoms.
  11. Well, the fall and injury flat out sucks!! But the speedy scheduling to get you on the road to recovery is good news. Listen to the doctors, and will be praying for an uneventful and speedy recovery.
  12. Lin and I exercised mail in voting for the first time this year.
  13. OOPS!!!! Sorry about the double tap.
  14. They are a small cross when viewed from the front, and are meant for the pocket, much like a worry stone.
  15. So i had a customer come to me and ask if i could make something for her. It was a small oval with a bas relief cross on one side. After making a prototype I told her one piece was too labor intensive and would be expensive, but if I could make it 2 layers I could do it quicker and cheaper. Then she tells me she wants 25 of the critters!! I WAY under estimated the amount of work involved. 75 pieces had to be cut on the table saw. Then 3 pieces had to be epoxied together. Then off to the scroll saw to cut the ovals. Then to the router to shape the back. Then to the belt sander for initial shaping of the front. I was using 80 grit and only lost a small amount of skin before wising up and putting on a leather glove! After this it was over to the 120 grit sanding drum to smooth everything, then a final finish with a 220 grit sanding mop. The crosses were left bare wood, and made of cherry. Customer plans to give them out as Christmas favors. If she asks for anymore, will need to raise the price a bit!
  16. Thanks Jerry, I look forward to your offerings!
  17. I understand NC, no problem.
  18. NC Scroller and KYwoodmaster, I appreciate your input, but blade pricing was not the reason for the post. I just wanted to let people know about a vendor that does right by their customers.
  19. That's weird, when I tried it it went to their page. Anyway, I replaced the link. Hope it works for you now.
  20. I've been ordering wheels and axle pegs from these folks for at least 4 years. Only twice did they send me the wrong wheels, and both times they told me to keep the wrong ones and within 2-4 days I had the correct ones.
  21. Just wanted to give a shout out to http://www.americanwoodcrafterssupply.com/ These folks are the best! I order all my wheels from them, great prices, fantastic service, and great quality. Just ordered wheels and blades from them on the 20th, and on the 22nd they were in my hand. I found out they have my favorite blade, the Olsen #5PGT-R for a little over half of what I was paying!!
  22. I can't stomach another debate, poll, ad, opinion or cartoon about this election. I've been relegated to watching science channel, Fox Sports 1, and assorted movie channels. I read facebook, skim yahoo, and read this and a couple other websites. I've already voted, so I'm trying hard not to watch our beloved country commit suicide. If anyone had told me 8 short years ago we'd be where we are today, I would not have believed them. Ok, rant off. Wonderful weather here today!!
  23. Many thanks Dan, I will check it out!
