  1. Those are the best ones yet Jerry, many thanks!!
  2. I have a RIGID oscillating belt/spindle sander that is the 2nd most used tool in the shop. I occasionally throw a 80 grit belt on it if I have a lot of stock to remove quickly while shapiing, and I have to tell ya, that 80 grit belt is scary!! I now wear gloves whenever I use that belt, don't ask me why!!
  3. They go for cheapest first Kevin. During my spinal issues I ended up with 3 surgeries and constant pain because the insurance and the doctors wanted to take the minimum treatment route first, then when that didn't work they tried another, and then finally on the third try got the joint fused. I find most doctors really want to help, but are often hobbled by the insurance companies.
  4. Thanks Jerry, your posts are the first thing I look for in here! Good ones today.

    Fun

Thanks Sycamore67, I was thinking the same. I had about decided to not open anymore of them.
  6. Thanks Jerry!!!!!!
  7. I looked at this but decided it wouldn't help a lot. My shop is a standard 2-car garage, un-insulated, and we often get triple digit temps in the summer. If I want to work more than a couple hours in the early morning I will eventually have to get a portable ac unit to use out there.
  8. Thanks Jerry, #7 and #17 were absolutely hysterical!!!!!
  9. Good to hear you're back at it Kevin! Hang in there and try not to over do.
  10. Really look forward to these, thanks Jerry, and keep up the excellent work!!

    Happy 4th

Happy Independence Day!!!!!! Needed a Happy thread after scanning through a couple websites and seeing post after post bashing America and declaring today a day to celebrate racism and hatred!! Yee Gods, I had no idea how much hate there is out there. Blind, unreasoning, even clueless, but still hatred for anything American. So to them I say "You are welcome to live somewhere else." As for me and my family, WE LOVE AMERICA!!!
  12. Amazing work, way more patience than I have!!
  13. I'm working on the second of Clayton Boyers walking bots trio. This critter is called Creepy Bot. I have the basic bot cut out, and while I wait for the motor to arrive I will be designing the extra bits to change it into ........... well, think of the movie Arachniphobia Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, the pentagon and square in the lower right, Those are the drive gears!!

    Amazing Kevin

Prayers up for A. K. I often check in just to see what he's been up to.
  15. The Dragon is ALIVE and walking!! And as usually happens on projects like this, it worked great for the video, but now I get to spend a fair bit of time tweaking the gear train to get it to walk smoothly and consistently. I need to get some thin CyA glue to strengthen the threads in the gears so they they don't strip around the set screws. Thanks for looking folks. VID_20170610_105457224.mp4
  16. I've been in contact with Clayton during this construction and will be sending him photos. I plan to get the final assembly and tweaking done this weekend and hopefully a video to post in the next couple of days. I really haven't thought much about what to do with the others yet. Likely something with teeth.
  17. The dragon is finally standing on its own legs!!! Still working out the final attachment method for the wings and head. I might not have the wings moving on this one, figure the walking legs will be eye catching enough. I didn't like the first dragon head I cut, too small, so I enlarged it and tweaked the design to give it, and the wings a skeletal look to go with the legs.
  18. Thanks for the suggestion dg, but they are not drive wheels. The legs do all the propulsion.
  19. Everything but the wings have now been cut. Here you see the trial fit of the gear trains on the frame members. The flat pieces in the last picture make a compartment to hold the 9VDC battery.
  20. Received the rest of the wood yesterday. Photos of parts to follow soon.
  21. Recently purchased a set of Clayton Boyer's Walking Robot plans, and now that I have the Kenworth project completed I'm finally starting on the robots. I find gears very intimidating, but if you go slow and accept that there will be copious amounts of time spent with tiny files and sandpaper strips, getting them to run smoothly isn't so bad! As you can see, I have the gear sets and the legs cut out. The dragon head, along with a pair of wings will be incorporated in this build at some point. You can find the plans here.
  22. My shop is my garage, so no heat or ac. Therefore attire governed by the season. Shoes, long pants long sleeves in the winter with an electric heater. Shorts, tees and sandals in the summer with lots of fans in the summer. I usually work from around 8am to 10-10:30am in the summer when the temps are in the 95-105 range.
  23. Unfortunately Len I didn't get many pictures of the interior before I closed it up. I had thought of making the trailer white, but don't really like to use solid paints on wood except for small parts or details. And I kinda like the slightly sinister aspect of the black trailer. This was never intended to be a scale model, but more of a sorta looks like, easily recognizable. And who knows, at some point if it doesn't sell, I might agree with you and make the reefer white! Thank You for the kind words folks.
  24. The Kenworth Project is finally finished. Tractor, Flat bed and Reefer. The fifth wheel actually locks, the tandems on the reefer are adjustable and the rear doors function. The interior of the cab is detailed as well. It was a fun project, but kinda glad it's finished, I kept thinking of details to add so it was time to call it. Thanks for looking.
  25. The withdrawal pains were getting bad, so glad we're back!
