  1. The saw is for my 40 yr old son who is a part of our little home business. There was one small glitch we just found. Apparently the box hold the parts for the stand was opened during shipment, and when we opened it both front legs and one of the top cross braces were missing. A call to Grizzly and the issue is being taken care of. Will talk with them again on Monday to find out if they will ship missing parts or a whole new stand package. When you figure in that everyone else didn't have one in stock, the stand is a minor glitch. He can still start cutting.
  2. What a great company to do business with! When everyone else, including DeWalt, was telling me that the DW788's were out of stock until late April/early May, Grizzly had them in stock. Not only that, but they were offering the stand/light/saw combo for the same sale price as others. Ordered the saw on Wednesday, April 2nd. paid the paltry $23 shipping for UPS Ground. The saw was just delivered a few minutes ago! Needless to say my son is a very happy camper, and Grizzly is definitely a company I look forward to doing business with again!

  4. I use spirals for the veining in projects such as the lichterbogens I make for Christmas season. It gives a slightly wider cut than a flat blade, and I can easily follow all the squiggles.
  5. Great looking display. Gives us some ideas. Only been doing this for a little over a year so still lots to learn. Our first fair was last month. We've been accepted at a juried fair that is held monthly, and last month, even with damp weather we did pretty well. Looking forward to it as the weather improves even more. We use 4 6' tables per 10x10 booth, and found table cloths that drape all they way to the ground on all 4 sides.
  6. I can add another amen to this thread. I started on a Dremel 2 speed 16" that for 9 months [i worked as hard as I could. Made and sold many a project with that saw. Then last June I got my Anniversary Edition 21" Excaliber and have really really enjoyed it. There was a bit of a learning transition but now I can't imagine using anything else. My son inherited the Dremel, has used it just as hard, and hopefully by this time next week he'll have a new DW788.
  7. Fantastic news, called them up and they actually had them in stock. Ordered it with the stand and light for the same price as the other place was offering but with the out of stock story. Should have it by middle of next week. I guess I need to stop trying to buy b ig ticket items from my local Woodcraft store since this is twice I've had this issue with them!
  8. According to emails I received from DeWalt Customer Support, there is no recall, they are just completely out of stock and won't have any to ship until "late April". The store I went to, which shall remain nameless, has told me that when they come in, I will get the saw, stand and light for the sale price of $499.99
  9. The only problem with that is I had enough money for the 21" DeWalt. That amount would only get me a 16" Excaliber. That and my son really wants the DeWalt. I've been told by where I had placed an order for the DeWalt that if I'm willing to wait I can get it for the sale price they had when one finally comes in. Otherwise, if the funds were available I'd dump the 788 for the Excaliber in a heartbeat and never look back.
  10. Price is up almost $200 on Amazon, and the first few I clicked on all said shipping wouldn't be until late April, early May. Hell for that money I'd just as sooon get another Excaliber!!
  11. Before I start, Moderators, if this is inappropriate or in the wrong place, please feel free to move or delete. That said, I found out something very strange concerning Dewalt and the 788 today. According to their customer service, they have no stock anywhere, and don't plane to have any to ship for almost 5 weeks! I found this out because I wanted to buy one for my son as a thank you for his hard work in helping us with our little wooden toy and gift business we're trying to get started. I just found it rather unbelievable that a company like DeWalt would put themselves in a position where their most popular scroll saw is out of stock for close to 2 months!
  12. This is a Steve Good design. I used Purple Heart, Black Walnut, Red Oak, and Bocote on the flower, the hummer is Poplar. Thanks for looking.
  13. Apologies for the double tap.
  14. Hi Folks, My name is Dan, currently living in the Sacramento area. I started scroll sawing last autumn after getting laid off. One of my wifes friends suggested I make wooden toys as a sideline to bring in a little extra cash. Why not, I thought. I used to build and fly RC planes, so how hard could this be? Right! Anyway, I had a table saw, a band saw, a bench top drill press and a small belt/disk sander. And with that I started. Then a friend from church gifted me with a Dremel 16" 2 speed scroll saw and I was hooked. Over the next 10 months I tried like heck to wear that thing out. I ordered an Excaliber 21" saw in February, but it wasn't until early June that I received it. What a joy it is using that over the Dremel. I'm starting to get ready for the fall craft fairs, have a shop on etsy, zibbet and delighted, and every day I learn how much I don't know about woodworking and finishing. Regards, Dan Snow
