Thanks New Guy. Yeah, I've read alot of reveiws on the saw and that was the main complaint that it came with no, or incomplete instruction booklet.

Have any of you scrollers used the Delta 40-694 scroll saw? They have one for $399 on Amazon and I've read most reveiws and it seems like a very good saw. I know it's Delta's version of the 788. Any pro's and con's would be helpful. I want to order it today, but don't want to rush into anything. I might have to put my 788 in the shop and I need a good saw to finish my Christmas orders with.

I've never used one. Does that have different size pulleys for adjusting the speed of the blade? -
Thanks Dick. I've tried 1/2" wood and the shaking is worse. I use the #1 blade because I cut mostly 3/4" maple. I used to use a #3 but it burned and burnished the wood too bad. Inside cuts wouldn't take stain and all cornres were burned black. The #1 burns sometimes, but not nearly as much as the #3 did. The FD-UR #1 cuts the maple like butter!

My saw doesn't vibrate at all, it's just the wood that vibrates while cutting. I've done some testing. With the blade installed and tension at 3.5, when I turn the saw on and barely touch a piece of 3/4" wood to the teeth, there are cut marks at the top and bottom of the wood. It's like the blade isn't touching the middle of the wood. If I place the same piece of wood to the back of the blade while running, it looks like the bottom of the blade touches the wood but the top doesn't. Guess I'm going to have to give in and take it to a shop and have it checked.

Kevin, I did what you suggested and everything seems right. Small amount of play without blade in both arms, and no play in either arm with blade attached and tension set to 3.5. Blade is in correct. I use FD-UR #1 blades and alway make sure the indentation is at the top arm. Blade tension is always set before cutting. Couldn't get the video to upload.

I'm hoping there is a quick fix for this! For the past couple days, when I'm cutting on my 788 the wood vibrates very badly. It never used to do it, but now it is. It's not the table or the saw itself, it's the blade. There is a tremendouse amount of front and back movement now and it makes cutting difficult, especially cutting turns and corners. Has anyone else had this problem? Somehow, I think the answer to that question would be yes, lol! I'll try to post a video of the movement so you can see what I mean. Also, if you would listen to my saw, it has become rather loud the past couple days also. Thanks so much!!

I feel you Kevin. I have a box full of work that people ordered and then changed their mind or when I tell them it is finished I never hear from then again. I have a document on my webpage that explains my prepay policy. If someone asks about placing an order, I mention the policy I have posted and ask if they have read it. If they say no, I ask them to read it first. I will not even put an order in line for production without payment. I love to scroll myself, but I will not let anyone else rip me off. There are alot of people out there that want my work and are willing to pay up front. I don't have to take chances anymore with the people that don't pay or change their mind in buying something. Stand your ground, you do awesome work, well worth the money you ask!

Those are nice Kevin. You should stick to the price you quote people. Tell them your work is unique and they will not find it anywhere else. That's what I do in the swap-N-shop groups on Facebook in my area. The pieces I post people are amazed, but want it at a lower price. I explain what all is involved in making a piece and tell them if they can find it cheaper some where else I'll beat that price. Most people accept it and purchase it. Others will say they pass, but will message me the next day and order one. Just remember that they can't go to Hobby Lobby or some other craft store and buy the same thing. What we make is unique, and should be priced as that.

I don't know anything about Mac's, but windows has a compatibility mode which allows you to run a program with settings from previous versions that program last worked. Does a Mac have this option?

Very beautiful piece of craftsmanship Bendita. I'm going to take a long shot here, do any of you that are in Mexico know a man named Valentin Ortiz? He worked out here years ago and went back to Mexico. I don't know what part, all I know is Mexico.
