  1. Maybe practice cutting out little reindeer or animals to give to the kids as you do demo's? Lot's of little things to cut, as involved cuttings take your mind off of the demo and more on doing a good job on the cutting. How about making up a few picture puzzles and freecutting them as you talk? Keep it simple and you will have more fun doing it. Jim B
  2. I have been buying shelf liner paper at Home Depot, and using that to put on the wood first then glue the pattern to it. Easier to peel off and sometimes might need a little sanding. Lot easier than doing the glue to the wood method, mostly end up sanding it off. I don't soak my stuff to get the glue to soften up. Can't take the smells. Cut the liner to 8-1/2 x 11 sheets and stack couple books on them. then use when I need to. Jim B
  3. welcome to the group, great clean looking portrait! Jim B
  4. Our woodcarving group has carved 29 Eagle heads for canes for veterans, haven't heard of anything going on with scrollsaws. Have seen some plaques at the craft fairs, but, none being given out that I know of. Jim B
  5. Mines in the basement, Here in Michigan, to cold for the garage, and still waiting for spring to show up yet, was great today!!!! Have had my workshop in the basement for years, as not finished basement. Good wood stove and woodcarving and scrollsawing, and a dvd player to listen to while working. Jim

Welcome to the forum! Lots to see and learn here!! Jim B
  9. There is a lot of stuff on Craig's list and Ebay that are way over priced, then add in shipping?? People don't do their homework and pay more than they should. I've seen carving tools sell for 2 dollars more then sold at Woodcraft and then they pay the shipping! Oh well you got a good deal, and bet you do find uses for it Jim B
  10. looks good to me! very well done both cutting and assembly. Next one will be even better! jim b

  13. Hi my name is Jim I just retired in 2010 and have been doing quite a bit of woodcarving and not much on the scollsaw. Some projects I start might be over my head. I have been getting scrollsaw magazine for past 4 or 5 years and have done some of the projects. I have a Sears 20" scrollsaw and another older 16" that needs some work to get back running. I need to get busy doing some of the projects but kind of need a kick in the butt to do it. I want to make some portraits, but, haven't had much luck doing the patterns from photo's. I was going to try and watch the series on Inkscape and see if I can figure it out. I tried downloading twice but, keep getting error messages. so deleted it. Well that's about it for right now, will check out your web site and see what else is on here that may help me. Have a nice day, and it is COLD out tonight, (only 3 more months to spring!!!) Jim
