  1. I use the dremel plunge router and won't do without it often I don't even bother with the drill press as the dremel is so easy to use besides you can't fit those real tiny bits in your drill press I say take the plunge no pun intended and buy a dremel plunge router
  2. buen trabajo que su país está orgulloso de ello
  3. I've used Iron on stencils but I find if you transfer them to paper first then to the wood it works better but don't stick the iron-on to the wood to use as template as its all backwards ( learned the hard way)

    Wood Toxicity Chart

One of the ones you rarely see here on these chart is common plywood in this case it's not so much the wood dust you need to concern yourself with as it is the glue one of the ingredients of the glue is formaldehyde I know my self when I'm cutting a lot of plywood my lips go numb that is a sure sign of formaldehyde poisoning. so do be careful of this product I also understand in the latest news they are about to introduce plastic in between layers of plywood for more strength and durability that should go over well with the environmental movement. Anyways just wanted to alert you to the plywood hazards, safe cutting.
  5. Every now and then I see new people starting to investigate to exciting challenges of using exotic woods, this is exciting news to watch new and up coming artist dabble with wood variety and colours. But Sometimes a very important message we Dinosaurs need to pass on is forgotten. the toxicity of these different species. So I'll post this link for anyone who isn't aware of the dangers as myself who landed in the hospital for several days thinking I was dying but it was merely a reaction to an innocent wood species, BIRCH yes Birch so please take care when you work with any kind of wood that you protect yourself and your Family if they are exposed to the dust particles that omit the air they breath. http://www.hobbywoods.com/wood_toxicity.htm
  6. We all have a bad day once in a while Marg its to remind us how lucky we are most of the time, keep your chin up and keep smiling. If that don't work, go back to bed and get up on the other side. .../Hans
  7. AaaH we all have a bad day once in a while, if we didn't we wouldn't know what a good day felt like.
  8. Thanks for the coffee this morning I'm working inside the house again as it just gets to hot outside, Our temperatures are hitting the mid 40C range so its A/C on. Well have a great day everyone got to run and take the dog for her walk before the sidewalk gets to hot.
  9. I love my DeWalt I haven't found any problems with it so far and use it about 4-6 hours daily I only bought the saw as I needed to ship it to Mexico and the additional weight would have added on to my freight, as it was the duty almost did me in all total I paid over 800 dollars delivered in Mexico. So I'll say your 450 dollars sounds like a great deal.
  10. Roly take one out lay it on a ruler and count TPI's that threads per Inch then Ron will be able to tell what you have there Sorry I have a very high IQ

    new guy

Hello Tom welcome to the village, practice practice practice my suggestion is for you to practice with a piece of scrap wood use a ruler and draw straight lines on it and cut all of them until your comfortable, then with a compass draw circles and do the same now change to a spiral blade and try all that over again and you'll never scroll again. Oh what am I saying just get a picture of a bunny or something simple and go for it you'll make some mistakes but there is no set rules for scroll sawing everyone uses what ever is comfortable for them. Remember ones you remove that pattern you'll be the only one that will know your mistakes. A good scroller is not the one who is flawless in his work but the one who hides it best. just have fun, relax and make sawdust.
  12. So we all know how many we have, now how many are we going to cut? how many should we keep? how many have we cut? Questions questions questions I say just keep adding more in to the file maybe one day, you can share them with someone, say a grandson takes up the hobby/habbit it would be a treasure to find on your computer.
  13. Nice work Kevin how do you market these as jewelry or do you mount them in wood? Have you tried painting your coins first with some water paint with black for instance it should wipe off easy and you should see your pattern through the paint no?
  14. Hi Skip welcome back to the group I used to live outside of Toronto Canada and made several trips to Buffalo nice country but thats all in the past I now live in Scroll world I'm totally addicted but like you am retired and have nothing better to do with my time. I give most of my stuff away and do sell the odd piece to replenish my wood supply and blades. I would love to see some of your work Skip when you get time to post a picture. Well got to run, I'm on a mission to find some decent wood today in a land that doesn't grow real trees. Hope to hear more from you Skip.
