  2. I think you would enjoy the cut more with a #3 modified geometry Pegas reversible blade or even a number 3. I used to go to the smaller blades to I could make the turns better but when I cut my Eiffel Tower I discovered a little heavier blade cuts easier and quicker but also follows the line better and is less likely to wander. Another thing I also learned lately was when cutting vanes one can first cut with a flat blade and then follow with a spiral blade and the spiral will widen the vane and not leave those wavy lines when used alone. Please don't take this a criticism because it is not meant to be. I just wanted to pass on some of the things I believe I am learning that is helping me. You might wish to give these a shot on another cutting, or not. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Always busy, Kevin. Your colorization makes these pop. I am interested in cutting the bowl. Who's pattern is that ? Dick heppnerguy
  4. Thank you, Lew that is a really nice compliment to me Dick heppnerguy
  5. I like him also.. It is a very good and recognizable pattern. It is easy to know who it is when it is cut so well. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Wayne, you should open your personal jewelry store. Lots of nice variety there. Something for everyone Dick heppnerguy
  7. I have so idea what kind of wood this is but it sure is perfect for making rings and other types of jewelry. Nice and fun piece Dick heppnerguy
  8. fun to cut people you like in entertainment as they make memories for us with their work. Dick heppnerguy
  9. That really is a cool pattern. Your cutting of it could not have been any better than this. Thanks for sharing this delightful piece of art Dick heppnerguy
  10. An interesting pattern to say the least. I like the color of stains you used in this one. Your work is always impressive Dick heppnerguy
  11. I love this piece. Do not get me wrong. I am proud of it and anxious to show our visitors. I have made other Eiffel Towers before but not one as authentically detailed as this one. I will show you the other pattern that I have cut. I have made 4 or 5 of the first pattern. I really liked it too but this new pattern is so much nicer and several times more difficult. Dick heppnerguy
  12. I am now thinking the same thing.. How does one get all those pieces to fit correctly? Has me stumped, Dave. Dick heppnerguy
  13. I know. there are a lot places you could have helped me... I needed you to come to AZ during this time of assembly... Hey, see you in 2 or 3 weeks Dick
  14. I finally was able to get my Eiffel Tower all put together. This a great pattern that is described as an advanced pattern by the pattern maker. I found I was able to cut it pretty well but I had some stumbling areas where my expertise is not up to the challenge. The joining corners are all cut to 45 degree angles and I found that to be a real challenge to my cutting skills. It is not perfect but it is the best I knew how to do. I am 70 percent happy with this project, as I really like the subject matter a lot. As far as my assembly skills go, I ended up being 30 unhappy with that part. I have always struggled in assembly and finish work. I pushed my envelop with this piece because I feel that if I do not continue to strive to do harder pieces, I will not grow. This has been a good year for me with my cutting skills, due to getting to know Scrappile (Paul), and seeing his really unusually great craftsmanship and the inspiration to do better myself. I have a long way to go to become a good scroller but I am slowly climbing the ladder in that direction, I feel. I do not believe I will probably ever achieve the skill level of so many of the scrollers here in The Village but I do know I will be continually encourage by seeing the posts they make. I also know that I am always learning as I go along and that was one of the rewards of the Eiffel Tower shown here, I did learn several things from making it and some day I may attempt it again. I think next time I cut one I will go to Paul's house and get some instruction in that area and some day...….. who knows......even I might be able to figure out how to do a better job assembling my work.
  15. Welcome to The Village Family from sunny and getting hot, ( average now about 100= degrees every day ) Arizona. There is a lot more things on this site then you can shake a stick at. Come back often and you and the all of us will quickly become like old lost friends. That is because everyone here is so helpful and friendly. Be sure you explore all the nooks and crannies as there is a lot going on here, for you and everyone else to enjoy Dick heppnerguy
  16. When we first corresponded and you, so generously, sent me some of your lower clamp inventions, and I sent you that box of wood as a thank you...…. I have moved from Oregon and now live in Arizona. You probably know that already, just from seeing my posts on this site. When I moved I got rid of a lot of my larger tools because I wanted to make sure other things were going to fit into the moving truck. One of the items I did not bring with me, was my Hawk scroll saw. I, instead gave it to my daughter who was on here for a little while and has since set up a pretty nice shop at her house. I was so glad to have those clamps to give to her with the saw because they are so helpful and handy. She has since made some really nice jewelry boxes and refinish several pieces of furniture for her home. I just want to thank you once more for the helpfulness of those clamps and for all you do for the people on this site. Dick heppnerguy
  17. I thought the lower clamps you made ready took care of the hassle that the Hawk has for the lower end blade holder. You are one great problem solver when it comes to the Hawk. I hope you told them how to improve this item, as it would sure help others that will experience the some problem and are not connected with The Village so they too can profit from you wisdom Dick heppnerguy
  18. That is a great answer. I think you nailed it Dick heppnerguy
  19. I want to add that I admire all of Dave Monk's projects and his ingenuity and trust completely in anything he says. I was just surprised to hear that one could attach a two quarter inch boards, satisfactorily with a spray glue. There is always something to learn in scrolling. That is one of the things that makes this hobby so interesting to me. Dick heppnerguy
  20. I also have to agree with you on this one, but I was under the impression that Dave was using the spray glue to add a wooden backer and I was surprised it would even work for that. As far as felt of poster paper, I too have done it that way Dick heppnerguy
  21. Good question.. If the frame hardware is holding everything secure, then I would have to agree with your thoughts and say, "no" Dick heppnerguy
  22. Oh yes... poster board I knew about.. I thought you were all talking about like 1/8th in ply or 1/4 inch ply as a backer board. But Dave Monk is referring to ply to ply.. A little different then poster board to ply.. I am not surprised by what you are talking about, as I too have done that but I have never tried to do ply to ply with spray. That one is a new one to me Dick heppnerguy
  23. Interesting.. I guess we must not have talked about that aspect of scrolling. I just thought the spray glue was made for paper to wood or other materials but not wood to wood. I told you I was ignorant of many things and here I proved it once more Dick heppnerguy
  24. All one needs to do is have a visit with you at your house and they can testify, as can I, that you turn out some of the nicest scrolling pieces I have ever had the pleasure to see. Even if I do have to feel a little embarrassed about my own work. Dick heppnerguy
  25. Always interested in hearing about something different that someone tried and liked. I never thought spray glue would actually support a wood backer. There is always a learning process in scrolling. I use the small 4 inch paint roller and then I do not get any glue seepage that way. It sure works well for me. Dick heppnerguy
