  1. I would have to vote for the plain one also. I like wood and most scrolling items when painted loose some of it's appeal to me, personally. I think it would be better to choose a different colored wood before I would paint one. That said, You did a really nice job painting your bowl, though Dick heppnerguy
  2. very different cutting . I saw it on Steve's site but wasn't really sure what is would look like, cut. Interesting but just one I would not choose to cut. Dick heppnerguy
  3. a fun and new idea for word art. Very interesting and unique . Glad you posted it for us all to see Dick heppnerguy
  4. Very creative and unusual. This is the kind of ingenuity that I love to stumble on in The Village. I am useless when it comes to trying to come up with a new way to do something or just a totally new idea. If you ask my wife, she may I could have stopped with 'I am useless" and there would have been enough said already. This is a fresh and fun New Idea and I love it. Dick heppnerguy
  5. We might if you post a photo of the wood you are asking about. Dick heppnerguy
  6. Boy, Paul, you are brave. If Patti sees this post of yours, I am wondering if she will still allow me to come to your house for a visit in June.. Dick heppnerguy
  7. the photo looks that way to me also Dick heppnerguy
  8. how about using the small washer and pencil tracing the outside of the face of your item. This gives you an overhang if about `1/8 to 1/4 inch and then you don't need to worry about being so perfect for a match up. I personal, think this also helps emphasize your piece with that little extra bit of contrast. That is how I did the outside of this plaque. I used a little large washer because I wanted a little larger boarder on this one. This is pretty goof proof. Dick heppnerguy
  9. Well, as I already posted my two items I made for my wife for Mother's Day and you opened this challenge up, I will start it off with my contribution to my wife on Mother's Day Dick heppnerguy
  10. I am going to chime in and add another big "WELCOME" from Southern Arizona. Nice saw, I bought one at an estate sale, actually I almost stole it @ $65. I was so excited. When I moved to Arizona, I gave that saw to my daughter to enthuse her with her woodworking. She has a full blown shop now and spends a lot of her time in there. With that saw and being on a forum like The Village, I expect that we will be seeing some nice project coming out of your shop as well. Glad you found us and log on often Dick heppnerguy
  11. What a nicely done piece. It sure came out to perfection. Some pieces you want just for yourself and beings as you cut two of them, if this is one of those kind of cuts, you have it and can still sell the other if you wish.. Dick heppnerguy
  12. An additional idea, that someone mentioned a year or so ago, that I sometimes use is...if I am drilling really small entrance holes in a piece of fret work that has a lot of small pieces, I first use my small awl on the back side of the piece to help open the hole a little to help me as I guide in my blade, but also you can take a pencil and stick the lead into the hole and give it a twist. This really helps to see the entrance hole, if you bottom feed, as I do. If you have not tried this method, use it one time and I believe you will see what I am saying could be very helpful. Dick heppnerguy
  13. What a wonderful find for you. You already are so organized. Things would be a big nightmare if I were doing what you do. Always nice to be able to have things where you can easily find them. What a score Dick heppnerguy
  14. nice helpful suggestions, Frank. That was really a great way to show what is could be like. Definitely if it were me, the top one for sure. I think everything works really well there. To me, the black images just look cheap...just my opinion Dick heppnerguy
  15. no room for anything more and no time to make a pattern. Need to get it in the mail so it is what it is.. I guess she can give it to someone else if she does not like it though Dick heppnerguy
  16. This one is for a niece of ours that just retired and has her birthday 3 days before mine. I wanted to make her a plaque for her retirement and this was the only retirement plaque I could find, in my quick searches. It is rather masculine but I still think she will enjoy it anyway. It is the thought that counts, so they say. This is a Sue Mey pattern from www.scrollsawartist.com for those new people that may not know about this great pattern maker Dick heppnerguy
  17. Well most of all I hope it is still me.. we have been married for 56 + years. I would not want to loose her love now, that is for sure Dick heppnerguy
  18. I am hoping to have a couple more things for her when she gets home. I need to try to keep on track and make sure things around the house do not get ahead of me. You know how men are when they are batching it. I hope some new items takes some of my failings around the house to be a little more unnoticed by her Dick heppnerguy
  19. As long as the wife is away for a few days, I thought I would just go make her something more to add to the basket, I cut for her a couple of days ago, to give her for Mother's Day. I only had some BB Ply to use so that is what she gets this time. This is a pattern from the newest Scroll saw woodworking and crafts magazine. She saw it and liked it and even said she wanted me to make her one, some day. So that day has come. Dick heppnerguy
  20. You are doing really well.....here is a little secret for you....... You never stop learning scrolling things. Someone is always coming up with new ideas and ways to do things. That is one of the best things about scrolling, next to just making the sawdust Dick heppnerguy
  21. I thought is was a lathe piece when I first saw it. Looks good and is a useful piece. It can't get much better than this Dick heppnerguy
  22. I enjoyed all of these items. You do very nice work so it is not a surprise that your orders are keeping you busy in the shop Dick heppnerguy
  23. fun playing around with a piece to see how much little changes here and there effect the end results. Nicely done Dick heppnerguy
  24. I have to agree on how the detail on the wheels adds such a nice touch. Great patterns and cutting Dick heppnerguy
  25. Mr Jones? I thought we were friends Dick heppnerguy
