Karl, the Seyco is made for Seyco in the same Asian country/factory the Ex use to be made in. Taiwan, I think. The Ex is now made in China. The Seyco is a good saw with a few differences from the Ex. Head doesn't tilt as far as the EX and does not tilt by turning a knob, you move it by hand. The table on the Seyco is larger than the Ex, I believe it is the largest table you can get on any scroll saw, least that I know of. The Seyco is a little more difficult to assemble, I.e. there is more for you to assemble. Steve good has a good video on putting it together and very worth watching. Steve also has a video review of the saw that is very good. The Seyco has the great Ray service that he use to give the Ex. Hard to beat that. Use to be when you bought an Ex from Seyco it was pre-tuned and ready to use right out of the box. Not so now, there are two posts here about the new Ex's recently purchased. There appeared to be some tuning involved before the saw was usable. They were purchased from Home Depot. I had an Ex, now I have a Seyco. I really can say, for the kind of sawing I do that I like one more that the other. Both great saws.

Congratulations, on the new saw. I am so sure you will love it. I hope you notified the manufacture about the packaging and condition of the saw when you got it. They need to know, because not many people are as forgiving and patient as you appear to be. It they don't send a good produce they will be back out of business... and to my mind that includes the packaging. You should receive a well put together product.

It could be. I learned about it on a carving forum. Urethane, is that what high density foam is? From the look I was thinking for things like Alex Fox's neat patterns. I did figure that a 12" x 12" piece is a little more than BB. "EZboard is a high-density urethane (HDU) material produced in sheets of varying thickness and densities. There are several manufacturers of HDU. I found out that not all HDU is the same. Some are grittier and more porous than others. I carved on HDU with densities from 10 all the way up to 40. Basswood has a density in the 20-37 lb/cubic foot range. A piece of HDU board has the same density on the front, back, edges and ends! Every part is the same density so the entire piece can be carved! I found 15 lb density to be the overall best for a wide variety of carving."

I just ran across this product this morning. I'm wondering if anyone has tried using it. I haven't read all the info so I do not know if there is an advantage to it over BB or the Hardboard. As I stated in a earlier post, I gave my magnetic top for my Seyco away. I wanted to let you know the reason. I do detailed fret work and because of the detail I like to have as close to zero clearance for my blade as possible. On all my saws I make a top to go over my table top as JimErn does. In that top I drill about a 1 1/2" diameter hole where the blade goes through, and I make inserts that will fit in the hole. The inserts have a small hole for the blade to go through and I can replace the inserts as they wear out.

Reading your description, I assumed they would be a lot more expensive. I like silence, so all the music stuff is unimportant to me, but I can see where most people would find it very nice. As for the phones, they are the rudest invention ever. They interrupt you know matter what you are doing. I refuse to let that happen. I do not answer the phone unless I am expecting a call I want to get or if it is not inconvenient for me. I hate it when I an talking to someone and they jump to answer the phone right in the middle of our conversation... I've been know to walk off, why not, the phone must be more important to the other person than talking to me. I know I was born in the wrong century! Sorry for the little rant.
