  1. I've had a cheap one for years. Still sits in the original box, unopened, waiting to that "someday". I think it is destined for a yard sale.... You need talent I do not possess to use one.
  2. You certainly did an outstanding job cutting that one. It is a very "hairy" cut. I did it several years ago. I was actually surprised it held together.
  3. Nice looking comb and thanks for the learning moment. I had never heard of torrified wood before and had to look it up. Interesting.
  4. Oh his going to love that.
  5. So glad you are enjoying it. I have been seriously scrolling for several years now and I have really just scratched the surface of what one can do. Intarsia, compound cutting, jig saw puzzles, fret work, clocks, boxes, baskets, toys, inlay, Marquetry, the list goes on. I have more patterns and projects lined up that there is no way I will get it all done in my life time. I'm leaving it all to my daughter, when she get through raising a family and working and has some time to for herself, she will be an awesome scroller. She loves it, just too much other life right now. Got to say I have ventured into all kinds of wood working, furniture making, house building, boat building, lathe turning, lots of other things involving wood, and I really find the scroll saw the most fun and relaxing. Only other thing I want to do wood related is learn some carving.
  6. I talking the a snap that holds clothing shut. The bottom part that you push the snap into or the snap itself if it has a hole like the picture shows. The two pieces on the left of the picture could be used. screw one of them in place and let the rod ride on the top of the scew heat or even a small nail would work. I have pattern of two of these pyramid things that I want to build but I haven't really studied the patterns to determine what they recommend but this snap is a good idea if you are using a rod that will fit. I am very anxious to see how yours turns out.
  7. Very very nice!!
  8. Or, I just filled my weed sprayer with everything killer and the wind starts....
  9. I think we all have. That is why most have a container for decorative fire wood...
  10. You also leave out a few in the price range of the Jet, there is the King saw in 16" or 30", the Excalibur and the Seyco, that you might look into. The Jet is not a favorite of some because the bottom clamp is removed to change blades and bottom feed only.. the same as a Hegner and older Hawks. I have a Hegner, love it and prefer the clamp setup. Once you get use to it putting in new blades or changing blades becomes second nature. Seyco has what some would consider short comings, the head doesn't tilt as far as the Ex or King, but it has a largest table of the saws although there is a rectangle hole in it behind the blade. It doesn't impact the table as far as usability. The table is meant to be covered with their magnetic cover. If you are going to really think it, I would build myself a list of the available saws and list the pros and cons of each. One may stand out even though they are all very similar. Some worry about the quality of the new Ex. I think a little different. The company the saw is being built for writes the specs, and is responsible for seeing that they are met, no matter where the saw is made. So to me it relies more on the company, not where they have their product manufactured. I would look harder at the reputation of the company. Just my opinion. Good luck, it is a difficult decision but all said and done, it is personal choice and what you do with the saw once you get it.
  11. You really did a nice job. Did you make the frame also? Next time, stack cut. Have extras on hand to give to others that want a copy.
  12. Great job!
  13. Really a pretty one. Nice work.
  14. That is a real beauty! Great piece of art that has a function.
  15. Before your hubby makes a bench that is tilted, just prop your saw up in the back and try it both flat and angled. It is personal preference. I've trued it both way and prefer flat. It may be related to the type of scrolling one likes to do also. Not sure. Best thing would be to make it so you could raise and lower the back then you could switch off. I was always going to fix one of my saws so I could do that,,, but alas,,, just another thing I didn't or at least haven't gotten around to.
  16. sit
  17. Thanks guys, not going to say I understand it all,,, but I at least know enough to know not to buy one of the patterns unless it has been converted to a format I can print and use, like .pdf, .jpg. Then if it is a scene, or portrait type I would have to figure out the bridges and such also, right? I really appreciate you taking the time to explain.
  18. Kinda defeats the whole purpose for buying a Jet in the first place... But, I think you are correct. It took me a little while to get use to the removable bottom clamp. Now it is second nature and I actually prefer it... It's what a person gets use to and is comfortable with.
  19. I don't understand what you get. Is it plans you print out and can actually scroll or is it program to run your CNC. How does this newfangled stuff works. The do have some neat stuff there. Please explain to this old goat.
  20. Nice pieces. Very cute.
  21. Very nice work!
  22. It was really good to scroll down though a post of your work Kevin. You have been a busy guy. Nice work.
  23. Yes that top clamp on the Jet is intriguing, however there are enough people that don't like it that Pegas makes a blade clamp to replace it. I haven't read enough understand why.
  24. Gota ask, you like the way the blade is changed, doesn't that mean you have removable bottom clamp and you take it out to put a new blade in? That narrows it to three saw that I know of, Hawk, Hegner and Jet. Of those three, the Hegner and Hawk will be around the longest... coarse if you are my age, the saw does not have to last too long!!
  25. Oh ya, this is Travis' thread,,,, sorry I aided and abetted the hijacking!! To be honest, though Ray I have never adjusted that screw on the left side. I slipped a credit card up there once to check it and mine is and has always been just barely a fraction of an inch proud of the side of the clamp. I could feel were it was with the card, but it didn't hinder the card at all. The only reason I would like to try a set of Pegas clamps is to see if I notice any difference in vibration. Both my Ex and Seyco have a vibration that I can feel. I have always attributed it to the stand I have used with both. It is home made and sitting on wheels. The vibration is nothing I would give up my stand for. I do not question that the Pegas clamp is better, in that it is made of better material. And if I needed to change clamps because mine were bad, I would replace them with Pegas, but I can't afford the luxury of changing just because...
