  1. Russ, I have a very close friend who is involved in live steam up in Junction City. He helped restore the train over in Sumpter. Do you know anybody over that way?
  2. Prayers all around Iggy. I hope it all works out as best as possible. Get back to making sawdust.
  3. I just found this foreign language site that is pretty interesting. You have to allow your browser to translate it and some of it won't make sense but pictures and videos are worth a thousand words. I found a couple of things worth my time. https://vk.com/as23as77
  4. I'm with ya on that Paul. I hate phones. Any make, kind or style. They are terrible. And when they decided to make a phone do more than a phone should, they got even more intrusive. I was married to my cell when I was in business but it was the old-fashioned flip phone. Nothing else. Now you have to have a computer, a camera AND a phone. And, I have walked off from someone who did that to me.
  5. I decided that it was a mystery worth persuing so I went there and instead of clicking on the archived patters, I clicked on the link above that and managed to find all the archived files but they are on a different site. Strange set up if you ask me but I'm not in charge. Anyway, there are tons of archived patterns to choose from and that one is there for sure.
  6. Opi, don't feel bad. I spent quite a bit of time searching there also and never did find it. SAD!
  7. Russ, you are living where there are many trees, mills, etc. Down where I live, we aren't allowed to water so everything is dying. I will try to locate someone who does as you suggest. I put out a request on Facebook a couple of years ago for any cabinet shops that might have scraps. I got so much bogus help that I wished I had never asked. And, I got no wood. I can see why so many of you folks use 1/8" BB as it seems to be the cheapest to buy. The stuff that I'm into right now requires more solid wood. I'm pretty much of a cheapskate ever since we retired and have to live on a fixed income of sorts. No pension here.
  8. What Heppnerguy said. I tinkered with mine yesterday after reading all the last few postings and got mine to where it is so close to perfect....well you get the idea. I may be selling my Dewalt soon. Then, it will be on to learning the Hegner. I still haven't got that speed/start issue resolved. But, I will and then I may learn to love the Heg like the EX.
  9. Check out coin cutting if cutting metal winds your crank. Too much for my old eyes but for some, it's a real satisfying hobby. Intarsia was what grabbed me too but I don't want anything that requires a lot of sanding or dust. It requires another whole set of tools besides sandpaper. I have found a bunch of things that I want to scroll. My biggest drawback is the cost of wood. That has become a major factor when trying to fit them into the budget.
  10. If you capture the pic in jing than open that file in Irfanview, you can do anythng you might want to do.
  11. Les, do you have Irfanview? If not, download it. It's free and there is an image resizer built into it.
  12. I just did a quick google images and found this. I thought it might help with the correct font for the name.
  13. The same aisle as "sky hooks".
  14. I've had the problem most all of my life. Measure twice? Surely you jest. I've got it wired. Hey, why is this board too short? DUH! '
  15. You will love that saw. I recently bought a used one that was built in 2011. So smooth, I can't believe it.
  16. I built a gate for our home many years ago. I wanted something that would set it apart from other gates so I created a "window" at the top center and put a very large "S" in it. I did it in Times serif I think. I cut it out on my bandsaw. No breakage problems at all. I'm curious what it is that makes it difficult on a scroll saw.
  17. All very interesting info. I think I have all the above-mentioned blades. Since I am practice cutting I will give each of them a try. I'll report back once I have the info in hand. Thanks to all of you. You have a ton more experience than I do so it will all come in handy.
  18. Thanks Steve. I think I have both. Not a bunch but a few.
  19. You mentioned the PS Woods blades. When I bought my EX the fellow who had it before me had a ton of Olsen and PS blades. I'm not sure whether they are the "super sharps" but I probably got a $100 dollars worth of them with the saw. The Olsens, I got a ton of them too. I'll give the PS blades a try. Thanks.
  20. I'm going to be cutting some compound cuts on the attached patterns. I will be needing 8 of this piece. The wood is 1 x 2 approx. red cedar. I have been doing some practice cuts in junk pine/fir and have gotten some blade drift on the wide side. That would be the pattern on the left. It would be cutting down through the 2" part of the wood. I was thinking about FD-UR in a #5. Can anybody give me their advice on whether I'm on the right track? Thanks in advance for any help.
  21. Just remember, doctors and lawyers all just "practice".
  22. They've been undersizing wood for years. Take a caliper to the home center sometime and check all the plywoods. They never measure out to what they are supposed to be. We have been getting screwed on most everything for a long time. I just realized that you were referring to the overall dimensions and not the thickness. My bad. It is strange though that they would cut it smaller than advertised. It must come down to the loss of wood because of the kerf of the saw blade. Hmmmmmm.
  23. Sheet metal screws work very well if you take the time to grind them down a bit. They are very hard and come in many lengths so one of them, a c-clamp and a nut of the right depth on the other side work great. I've had to do it a few times when the punch wouldn't fit or like you had to move a pin sideways.
  24. Brenda, some table inserts fit pretty tight so they don't move when using the saw. If you can get at it from under the table, give it a small whack with a little hammer. It should just pop out. After looking at the manual that was referred to, I see that you saw is very similar to a Hegner.
