  1. Have you tried rotating, adjusting the motor? I recall that when I adjusted mine to ease the aggressiveness that when I took it too far, it did start a banging until I backed it off. Maybe you need to try adjusting yours. Just a guess. When something suddenly starts banging, it usually means that something broke. If you have removed the side cover on your saw and verified that nothing appears to have broken, it will have to come apart. You've inspected the mechanisms on the front of the saw but it could still be a broken bolt or screw in the rear where it connects to the motor. That's what it sounds like to me. Good luck and please inform us of what you find.
  2. But I did like how my Hawk ran and cut. I hated to part with it. The 220 will be 6 inches shorter footprint and would fit much better. And heck, I enjoy the search.
  3. Dang! Now you two have got me wanting another Hawk. I had the 226 VS Ultra but it was too big for my shop. So I'll have to start a search for a good used 220 VS and see how it works. I do see them all the time for under $300 so I might have to sell of an Ex to make room and find the money. Wouldn't that be neat? I'll be like Kevin and have one of each.
  4. I guess because they use bushings rather than bearings. And, oil is cheap. So why not?
  5. A couple of things here J.T. I never said anything about going crazy on oiling. I was told at some point, maybe in the owner's manual, that it was wise to drop a couple of drops of light oil on the upper and lower arm bushings after every 10 hours of use. Seems fair to me. As to the second thing, I'd be interested, with your way of thinking, just how often you change the oil in your car. If you have never done that, as your saw, I'm truly amazed that it is still running.
  6. I am only going on the fact that he seems to be a collector and seller of recon machines and has been in touch with Hegner for much of his info. Who knows? Maybe he's all wet but I'd be inclined to believe what he has said. As for Facebook, it is what you let it be. There are very good scrollsaw and woodworking groups there. Stay away from the political and controversial posts. Choose your friends wisely. It's still a great source of info if you can just sort out the B.S. from the good stuff.
  7. Have you ever noticed, these things always happen before, during or just after a holiday? ALWAYS!
  8. Mine has a quick-release lever. Love it.
  9. @Bill WIlson, did you fix your saw? I've been waiting to hear.
  10. Yes, I picked up on that too. I've been trying to make sure I oil mine after every 10 hours but now I'll do it at each use.
  11. You're missing a lot of great stuff. You just have to know how to navigate.
  12. Exactly my feelings too. It costs nothing to release the tension. The springs on a car begin to sag after having the weight sitting on them year in and year out. Paul, take the time to go to this Facebook site and do some reading. There is a lot of info on how to maintain and adjust all the stuff on the Hegners. I was aware of some of it but not all. Very interesting.
  13. The subject of releasing the tension on your saws when they are not being used has been talked about here a couple of times. I'm of the school that thinks releasing tension is a good idea. Anyway, after perusing the new Facebook site "A Saw Subject" and reading a lot of great info on Hegner saws, I ran across this so I'm posting the picture and the accompanying comment. This may concern only Hegner saws but I think it could relate to most saws. Any of you folks who are using Hegner saws, you might pay heed to this. Also, there is a ton of great info on that site on all the different Hegner saws over the years and what to look for if you are buying a used one.
  14. Thanks Kevin, first mistake this year. Try it again.
  15. I just ran across this setup on Amazon and think I'll buy it. It's for the Multi-max and other sanders of the same design. It has sanding pads that are smaller in size and looks like they'd fit in smaller places. And lots of paper to go with. Not a bad price for all that's included. Here is an updated version of the links https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPJ1M71L/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B6ZRGWT3/
  16. I suppose that it can be anything you want it to be Bob. But, in my case, the triangular tip on this sander gets in many small places. That other detail sander that is shown would be nice to have but I think it might be very expensive. I've got an old Phillips cordless toothbrush that I have thinking about making into a small detail sander. There is a video on youtube on how to do about it. Not very powerful but it might be just right for sanding very delicate things.
  17. I have made some pretty intricate things and hate sanding so I use the Dremel MultiMax to get in the hard to reach places. I also use a lot of my wife's nail file emery boards. The Dremel tool also so a great job of cutting in places where a saw won't work. I bought the one I have when we first moved into our mobile home and there was no medicine cabinet. So we bought a cheap one and I was able to inset it into the side of the cabinet that is in the bathroom. With that fine vibratory saw blade, I was able to lay out a line and "jab" the saw blade in and then just follow the line the whole rectangular perimeter of the box. It worked great and left a very nice edge that required no sanding or clean up. J T, at one time I had the Fein multi tool too. It was very expensive in it's day.
  18. Look back on this thread. I added a picture of what I have. Dremel Multi Max.
  19. Just make sure the Dremel accessories are compatible. H/F has a habit of discontinuing pieces and parts.
  20. As most are.
  21. The only thing I care to do with my laser is some sort of logo/signature for signing my work. But so far I haven't come up with anything unique.
  22. If you're not having issues I don't see why.
  23. How about a piece of high density foam rubber instead of a bellows that really just serves as a bumper?
  24. You seem to always be in the right place at the right time. I've never been given anything of any value. Most everything that I get for free is junk or way beyond repair. That 14 in saw would have been neat though. They have become valuable just because of their size. There is a guy down in the San Diego area that has had one for sale in mint condition for over 3 years. He's asking $925 and won't budge.
