  1. RJ, get in your car and start driving. That is a very good price for a great saw. Make sure to ask for all the blade hokders and the Hegner wrench for tightening/loosening the clamps. If you get that stuff, there will be no other out of pocket except for a CV boot kit to fix the bellows and whatever it costs for a Loc-Line kit for the blower. You won't be disappointed. It's a great saw.
  2. Run for the hills. That is not the saw you want. Try to find a good used Dewalt. There are many out there.
  3. I would chime in here but it seems that the idea of a CV boot has already been mentioned. Paul, you are correct. I don't recall what the application was and have since tossed the box the boots came in. I might be able to go back in my eBay history and find it. Let me know if you want that. Never mind, I tried to find my purchase info from eBay but it must have been deleted. Too far back I guess. Anyway, the info is out there, probably on Youtube. It seems that the Hegner guru site has since gone away and it's tough to find any info from that person any longer.
  4. Have you tried doing an image search on google? I've used it and found what I was looking for a couple of times.
  5. The Hawk 226 VS Ultra is a great saw but there are some things to look at. The main thing is that the adjusting wedge and the V notch that it sits in are not worn out. Try to get everything that came with the saw. I think there should be at least 4 blade clamps. Check the tension lever mechanism for wear. I bought one of those saws in almost new condition for $250 so $400 is a bit high. I'd offer less and see what happens. That saw will take up a lot of floor space. Be sure you have the space. Good luck.
  6. Marquetry is what led me to scrollsawing. It's not difficult one you understand the concept. And using hot sand for accent shading works great. I took a class near where I live. Well worth the $50. Best of luck. But get a good saw.
  7. I strongly suggest the super skip blades. You won't be sorry. Less buildup of dust means less heat.
  8. So nice to hear this commentary on Bushton. We have truly become a society of instant gratification. I'm as guilty as anybody but at 82 I don't have much time to wait for stuff. I think that we will see more of this happening. Folks are waking up to what is important.
  9. Be careful when you do the assembly on your new saw. I seem to recall that is very easy to get the legs mounted wrong and it effects the smooth operation of the saw. Kevin can chime in here. He and J.T. have lots of experience with putting them together. Both right and wrong.
  10. @skyhawk7, I am on the West coast so this will not help you at all but I was surfing Marketplace today and came across a Hawk 220VS in very nice condition. The lady is asking $150 for it. I am so tempted to go check it out and probably bring it home but when I mentioned it to my wife, she very kindly asked me if I felt that I needed another saw. I'm going on 83 so I can see her logic but that doesn't stop me from wanting it. I'm not sure if it qualifies as an "Ultra" or not. Not sure what that means but it seems to have all the most current upgrades. The square blade holders, the up-front tension lever and variable speed. The serial number was 28XXX. What else would the be? @KMMcrafts?
  11. There were many others. This one was the cheapest. Sorry.
  12. Paul, I'm toying with building one of these, Can you tell me what finish you used to get that patina? I really love it.
  13. My first question is where was your saw made? If it is a Chinese saw, they are made of inferior materials so this may become an ongoing problem. That's why the best suggestion would be to upgrade your blade clamps to the Pegas style. Contact Denny at his above address. He has the best price and service. I have 2 Excalibur saws and have upgraded both. There is a huge difference in how they work with the better clamps. Best of luck.
  14. Thanks Paul, I followed that link and bought it for $4, free shipping. Can't go wrong even if I never read it. But I will. I love marquetry and this will just add to my reading material.
  15. Well, here is my take. I don't make anything as thick or bulky as you are doing but I do love buying tools. I don't have the budget for anything new that is worth owning so I have shopped the used market over the years. I started with a used Dewalt 788 and went from there to a used Ex21, Canadian built. Then a Hegner came along so I did my homework and bought it. It developed a speed problem that looked like it might end up costing me a bunch of money. Those German parts aren't cheap. Anyway, I sold it and found a like new Hawk 226 Ultra with less than 20 hours on it. I stole it at $225. But, it was just too big for my little shop. I did like the saw but had to let it go. Then another Hegner came along for a very good price. Cheap enough that it allowed me the extra money to upgrade the things it didn't have. I found another Ex, a 16 inch, for a super price so I bought it. I now have all 3 saws and don't plan on selling any of them. Unless of course, something comes along that I just have to have. I still would like a Hawk but the next one will be a 20 incher. Oh, and by the way, I also have a Delta 14 inch band saw that is probably the handiest tool I own for those quick cuts on something thick. The thing that I need more than anything else is space. My tiny shop has outgrown itself and I now have to keep a couple of my less used tools outdoors, covered up with barbecue covers. Best of luck to you in your search. This is the best place for info on just about any saw there is. I learned a ton about Hegners from @CharleyE and the Hawks from @Kmmcrafts (Kevin). Either of these saws requires a lot of questions to be answered if shopping used. Especially the Hawks.
  16. Deleted. The pic showed up.
  17. There are many folks here who have vented over this same problem. I can't figure out why they don't have a way to download the patterns. It would have to be cheaper in the long run.
  18. I'm thinking you need to increase your tension too. You shouldn't be able to bow your blades that much.
  19. It's probably something installed wrong or out of adjustment but I'd probably return it if you can't figure it out.
  20. Thats beautiful J.T.
  21. I would also take a very hard look at Hawk. There are a lot of great deals on used Hawks, but before buying one, check here for what to be aware of. They are an American-made tank and parts are not a problem.
  22. I heard Kabota orange is a very close match.
  23. Hmmm, my car has a rattle somewhere. What's wrong with it? That is about what you said regarding your saw. If there was a problem, it was all in your 1st sentence. We all try our best to help but the person seeking help has to do their part too.
  24. That poor saw has lived a hard life.
