  1. Surely you jest. Battery candles.
  2. Unfortunately mine isn't made that way. Thanks for the pics.
  3. Pics! We need pics! Gotta have pics or it didn't happen! Lol.
  4. Well, to be honest, my wife has me making them for Christmas gifts so I haven't sold any. It seems like everything I make for her, she wants to give as gifts. Now she just asked me to make another one of my votive candle holders. They are the most time consuming. But I enjoy making them.
  5. Me too.
  6. Ditto! On both of my Ex's.
  7. I've got both of my Metrovacs plugged in so they come on with the saw. So far, so good.
  8. Probably depends a lot on the quality of the vac. I would think it would be the start/stop cycling that might kill them. I'm thinking scrolling here with a demand switch. For just using as a dust control where it will be running for hours, not sure. There again the quality of the unit and how the dust is handled. As long as there is good airflow it should work.
  9. Yeah, it was the heat build-up that I was thinking about. So far, my setup has worked out great but I don't cut anywhere near as much as you.
  10. Kev, take the muffler out of it and it will last longer. I posted about using an OJ bottle to quiet mine down. It works great with no back pressure.
  11. My sentiments too. Once I found SSV, I never looked back.
  12. No, I built it with an adjustable brace from underneath.
  13. The hinge is for the top so I can tilt the saw if necessary.
  14. I have 2 Ex's. I built 2 stands in rectangular shapes. I put 2 7" wheels at the back end and created a sliding wheelbarrow handle on each side so I can easily move the saws when needed. I have also incorporated onboard dust control for each saw. I have a small shop so when weather permits I like to move one or both saws outside to my driveway. If I were to do it again I'd make the end where I sit narrower to accommodate my knees but as it is I can sit comfortably.
  15. Can you share your pattern? I'd like to give them a try.
  16. Yes, the cost of materials has gone to the moon. That's why I have chosen many projects that will consume the odds and ends of what I have laying around. I've been concentrating on the different sized candle holders/vases that I have shown you already and making them in differing colors/types of wood and they are coming out great. My Christmas work is almost done. I'm cheap by nature so I am always looking for ways to bring the cost of my hobby down. Maybe you've just chosen a project that is not right for the economic climate we are in presently. Try something else.
  17. It's nice to hear that Bushton's customer service has finally improved. Must have been "growing pains".
  18. Thanks Paul. I'll give it a look. Up til now I've shunned spirals but may have to rethink.
  19. Sorry about the bad advice. First time I've ever been wrong.
  20. Try to picture me eating crow. You are right and that drawing is wrong. So relieving the bottom of the plate is so that the upper arm CONNECTING ROD doesn't come in contact with the plate. Bottom line here is, take as much material off the underside of that plate as necessary. I'm not sure how adjusting the tension rod has anything to do with the knocking unless having it too sloppy might cause a rattle. So it's two separate things entirely. MY BAD!
  21. I made my daughter a new gate out of redwood and it was easy to work with. I have some scraps left over that I had planned to use for a small box or something like that.
  22. You know, it's been a few years since I did mine. Maybe you are right. But I kept removing material until the knocking stopped. I'm old an confused. Dang! Edit: After writing the above, I went to that site and looked at this pic. It shows the rod running under the plate. If that is the case, you can see where relieving the area in question and tightening up the rod would make the noise go away.
  23. Not yet but I see a small box in my future.
  24. Grind some more off the cover plate. I had to take enough off that there was no cover left in the end of it. It won't hurt it to take more off. The rod is still hitting the plate. It's not the rocker arm that's hitting the plate, it's the rod.
