  1. Just. Quick question about the Dewalt 788 scrollsaw. How often should a person grease the roller bearings inside and with what type of grease. Maybe somebody hAs already asked and I missed it sorry just curious. Damian
  2. Thanks all I like the challenges all scrolling projects take . Always helps when you have a group of scrollers always lending a hand and great ideas like a big family!
  3. Well thanks to Paul (Grampa) with his expertise on pattern making and getting me a great start to get this portrait done in a short time.We had little detail from a black and white obituary card that it seemed almost impossible but it turned out great, I added some detail of what I could see in front of me on the picture which kinda added to it.I think the couple will be happy. The couple or parents of this girl ,well it made me want to do it as both of them every weekend on a Fri night go out to the homeless and drug addicts and prostitutes and give out coffee and a sandwich to them and pray for them.Well anyway while they are doing that this girl would stay at the campground office and watch the office etc.And when she started school in another province she would come home at thanksgiving and drive back to make a long story short she never made it to her boarding school, she fell asleep at the wheel and rolled on thanksgiving .That is why I call it Broken dreams and I had to do this for them cause I wouldnt want this for anyone. Thanks for reading this story and my hat goes off to Grampa for helping me make it happen . Damian
  4. Nice of you to give it to a mail carrier. He or she will treasure that for life. I know one and very often their job is thankless dealing with all the elements outside so someone like you will make their day. Well done Dick
  5. Thanks all and thanks Len for the advise on the steering wheel, I didn't know that and wouldn't take much to glue it solid for safety
  6. Yes Paul the wife wonders what I have been doing the last few days in the garage! Like the song goes just a swingin. Lol
  7. Thanks for all the kind words I haven't given it to him yet as it's still wet and I have mde a set of wheels to put under the tractor to pull him around outside. The rocker is designed to come off and the wheel assembly slides under that way it can be used in and out with a exterior paint. The tractor is so strong with screws and glue that it could hold a adult if you had short legs and wanted to be. A kid again. Lol
  8. Well after about 40 hours in the shop measuring and cutting. Then installing pieces ,piece by piece.I have finally got it painted and ready for my grandson to rock the floor. This job I thought was going to be easy but soon learned that I needed every tool in my garage.I spoke to a man in the US that used to sell them but got out of it as he said he wasnt making enough..He was charging 250 but he said it should of been alot more and he said youl see and he was right, to sell these a guy would have to double that but for my grandson my hours dont count as Im sure he will enjoy it as much as fun I had making it.The plans I got had a stationary steering wheel but I changed that so he can turn the wheel to make it more realistic. This was the biggest toy I have ever made and was a great project all around.I think all its missing now is a horn! The color in some spots is alittle lighter right now as is wet and drying so will be darker in a day or so
  9. I am three quaters done working on a John Deer tractor rocker for my grandson, should be done in a few days. Pattern from Windfield collection. This project was a real challenge using every woodworking tool in my shop,
  10. I think Travis should assign you a name scrollsaw king Boy you sure can fire them out. Good job man nobody can top that production! Damian
  11. Very well done did you design that yourself or is there someone who sells it or you would not coment at all
  12. I think Travis is right in locking the pattern site only to members only . Leaving it the way it is will only bring on more theft of patterns and who needs that when hours are spent designing them .Some people have more nerve.
  13. I find that rubbing parafin wax on both sides of the blade helps.Try that hope it helps!
  14. Finished this plate in time for Easter. Was a real challenge to align plate.A friend in Romania named Mr Baluta was kind enough to let me use his pattern for the plate and I had the Jesus pattern from Gary Browning book. Was hard to correspond with Mr Baluta as I dont think he speaks english but managed to get his okay thanks to him.I have 3 others on the go as soon as the weekend is over of festive eating. This plate turned out oblong as printer setting was wrong but figured that out after was cut but will still be alright. Happy Easter to everybody Damian
  15. I have another place to order blades and patterns. The blades come from the same place as Mike used to order before he sold his business. The place I will be ordering from is Sawbird. His name is Garnet and is out of Canada.I phoned him today and told him I will tell the rest of you that are looking for a cheaper place to buy. I am not getting any kickback just want a fair delivery price. So check it out at Sawbird. Damian
  16. Thanks for all your help I phoned the windfield collection like Scrappile advised and there is a big difference in shipping that tractor pattern to Canada like 22.00 difference in price. You tell me how the cherry tree can justify that. I sure will not be ordering any blades from them thank you very much. But that's what a consumer has to check around. Thanks again people. Damian
  17. Does anyone know of any place other than the Cherry Tree for a pattern for a John Deer rocking tractor. The cherry tree shipping charge is through the roof and looking for somewhere else if anybody has any ideas. Want to make it for my grandson. Thanks. Damian

    Handy Tips

Here's another for you all who use flat blades. Alot of time you will find that when you turn alot of turns and corners that the wood or the machine vibrates and sometimes even leaves burn marks on the wood. Well the trick is to put the blade in both top and bottom in machine tighten up then take a small file and file the back side of the bade from the table to the thumb screw so there is no burr left. It is the burr that causes the problem from the factory. After that take some parafin wax and coat both sides of blade and your back in business. I have done this for years

    Handy Tips

Here's a good tip if you find your thumb screw constanly slips on your blade, take the screws out and sand the end with a small file or medium sandpaper. Makes a big difference
  22. Ha welcome to Canada it will be hard to give up that Mexican weather but you will always enjoy your grand kids more,.Hurry back to show us your scroll work where ever you may be Safe travels Damian
  23. Very nice as usual, scrollsawing can be addictave but always better than some problems a person can get into. Always nice to see good work
  24. ya vow comadant very good you rock again we are all enveous
  25. Nice work Kevin very busy man, Dont let a shop covered with dust scare ya as a clean shop isn't scrolling wait for a rainy day to put shop in order. As for dust from that dewalt I came across a jig to fit that saw cause I have the same. The product is Big Foot and hooks to your vacuum or dust collector. I looked at the site and made my own but you might want to look at the site to buy for 35 or make your own. It works well and keeps the dust off the floor. Damian
