  1. I too am an Olson user. I think FD makes a well crafted blade, I just have a hard time controlling it when cutting thinner stock. For me (and I realize this probably says more about me than the blades) it seems the FD blades are very unforgiving. My tension level rises as I try to cut a pattern and it ends up being not much fun. Try several brands and types. Use what works for you. All the brands have some positive qualities otherwise they would no longer be in business. Jim

    Hi kids!

Really like your work. Especially can't wait to see the box you make to carry your favorite scotch. A single malt I'd guess. Welcome to the forum, lots of information and awesome people willing to share their knowledge. Jim
  3. I think it would work. I guess all you need to consider is the age of the child versus the size of the piece. Jim

Looks like it turned out perfectly. Great job. Jim

    Owls

I like them. How thick are they? I've been thinking about making some for my younger grandkids to encourage their reading. Jim
  7. Oh man! There's nothing to help cure seasonal affective disorder like a new toy. Expecting lots of project pictures. Jim
  8. I've done both. I think I like 3/8 a little better. You can get a nail into it if you have to, also less warping. Jim
  9. Good job! What you have done is to turn a hobby into a money maker. Jim
  10. I believe it's becoming a continental takeover. We are getting a lot of you folks from across the pond. Welcome to the forum and please jump right in. Jim
  11. I started out gluing directly to the wood, the after learning about the blue tape began doing that. I now do both. The disadvantage I see with mineral spirits is that it takes a day to dry completely. The problems you listed with the painters tape are also annoying. I glue directly to wood especially when using plywood. I have peeled the veneer off with the blue tape when removing the pattern. Jim
  12. Wow! It appears you were born to do this. Glad to see you on the forum. Can't wait to see more of your work. Don't be afraid to jump right in. We love participation, and there are experts here who can answer any question about the art of scrolling. Jim
  13. I know that this piece has been shown before by those who have more skill than I. That said it was a great pattern to cut. One thing I did different was to use 1/2 inch birch plywood because that's what I had. Also, since it was an old mill, I decided to use a grey stain to give the image of being old. Don't know if it worked, but it was something different. Jim
  14. Steve Good has a couple of videos on inlays which I found to be helpful. Here's the link to one of them.Preview not availableScrolled Round Inlay Box Part Onewww.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com18,000+ views·6/18/2008YouTube/sdgood. Kind of a crazy looking link so I'm not sure if it will work. You can probably find the video on his website. Jim
  15. Nice work, very nice. Jim
  16. Me neither. Jim
  17. Nice work. The RMEF headquarters are located in Missoula, MT. Which is where I was born. They have done amazing work in contributing to the enhancement of elk habitat around the country. If you ever have a chance to visit their headquarters, they have amazing displays and information. Jim
  18. I really like that, sure can't see any errors. I envy your skill with a spiral blade. Jim
  19. Very nice looking. Jim
  20. Great looking job. Unless your friend is a bachelor, he's gonna learn who the boss is. Jim (retired 5 years and still not the boss).
  21. Good job. I like it and I'm not even your sister. Jim
  22. I don't know about other ones, but I think overdone looks great! Of course I may just be a little trashy. Jim
  23. I like that. It brings back fond memories. Although I don't just anymore, I remember years and years of hunting birds with my father. It was a special time for us. Jim
  24. Ok, I voted. Now I need one of those little stickers to put on my shirt that says I voted. Great looking work. Good luck Jim
  25. Great looking work. As I sit here typing this, I'm looking at my extremely overweight cat we found in the woods. That was 7 years ago, she weighed 9 oz. The vet estimated her age at 2 weeks. Not the world's friendliest cat, but she's all ours. Jim
