  1. When I make mistakes like that, I give thanks that I'm a scroller and not a tattoo artist. Jim
  2. It's all about adapting to circumstances. Foot pedals are great, but knee pedals are equally so.
  3. Dang! That is some awesome artwork. You two are the super heroes of the craft world. Jim
  4. Hah! I wish. I can do the same thing over and over again and get different results every time. Just none of them good.
  5. Your minions are awesome. One of the things about having grand kids is being able to watch those movies.
  6. The wood kinda looks like Alder. Jim
  7. Great information. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Very nice looking. If I might ask, what blade did you use?
  9. We have sawmills around here, but the wood they mill is generally either fir or larch. Not great for scrolling. Unfortunately there are no local stands of hardwoods. Likewise my choice of scrolling woods is limited to whatever the local hardware store is selling. I recently cut some cherry and liked it a lot. I was using poplar to do some of my scrolling, but just switched to select pine. Looks about the same and is a little cheaper. I'm pretty opportunistic. Give me free wood, and I'll make it work. Jim
  10. I have that same unit. Seems to work well. I find that vacuuming the filter about once a month keeps it functioning well. I have no complaints about it other than it's noisy. Not that that's a problem in a room full of power tools.
  11. Excellent work, and kudos for using spiral blades. After my only experience with them I have shied away. Jim
  12. Great looking work Kev. Now put some of those skills to work getting on the good side of your landlady.
  13. Travis, thanks for posting this video. I've been to "Ted's" site and felt it was probably not legitimate. Unfortunately I doubt if any corporations are going to be dealing with this any time soon. I think the best we can do is to spread the word through sites like SSV and let other know what this is all about. Jim
  14. I think your work looks great. I too use a DeWalt and have never had a problem. Regarding blades, I agree with Ike on the blades. There are a couple of good sites which sell blades. You should by an assortment of brands and sizes and find the ones which work for you. Can't wait to see more pictures. Jim
  15. That's exactly my problem with the FD blades.
  16. Great job. A unique perspective which invites conversation and comparison.
  17. I have both Olson and Flying Dutchman blades. For whatever reason, i make much more firewood with the FD blades. Seems to be a control issue on my part. Don't have that problem with the Olson blades.
  18. Great work, and choice of wood.
  19. Great looking pieces.
  20. Oh it's a fancy granite floor tile that's become popular in this country lately.
  21. I don't know, I think a travertine saw table would be just the ticket. Jim
  22. The problem doesn't seem to be with the blade or tension. I am using a fence. I'm now sure how straight the grain is, but it isn't knotted. It's as though at 3/4 inch the board will be straight, but at 1/4 inch it develops a bow. This doesn't happen all the time, and primarily with oak and poplar I've purchased at Home Depot. Jim
  23. Thanks for all the info. I'm gonna have to do a little research.
  24. I usually by 3/4" thick boards which I can resaw into different thicknesses as needed. I think I save a little money that way. My problem is that sometimes I'll run a perfectly straight piece of wood through the bandsaw and end up with two thinner pieces which have bows in them. Is there an answer to getting straight pieces, or am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Jim
  25. I feel your pain. After delaying my sawing for recovery from surgery, it's time to pack a summer's worth of travel and "fun" into the last few weeks of warm weather. I'm on the east coast for 2 weeks, home for one week, then off to Minnesota for a week. Along with relatives showing up to visit, there just isn't much time for the important things in life (scrolling). Ah well, bring on the winter, that'll keep em away.
