  1. I was able to register, although I haven't received my email confirmation yet.
  2. Awesome piece of work. I am truly impressed.
  3. I want it!
  4. I really like that. I have to do something like that for my sweetie.
  5. Thanks for the advice folks, it's kind of what I figured. I try to do all those things, and I've been successful with my spray adhesive. I just can't seem to make it work for the varnish and lacquer. I have an HVLP sprayer, but it's a lot of setup and take down for a small piece of wood. I was wondering if there was another pneumatic alternative that might work. As you might have figured out, I'm trying to not have to accept the fact that the problem is me.
  6. I bought a lifter for mine, after initially just tightening the screw on the pivot. Someone said it was hard on the bearing in there. Now that I'm used to it I really like it. Very secure way to hold the upper arm in place and is convenient to access.
  7. I am needing advice here. One of my weakest points in woodworking is the finishing part. I generally use a spray finish of some type. My problem is that I buy cans of spray urethane or lacquer. I use them and at about the half-way point they clog up. I have tried soaking the spray nozzle in mineral spirits and as often as not they never work again. How do the rest of you apply your finishes. I know there's gotta be a better way. Thanks, Jim
  8. What a great use for that piece. It's one of the reasons I like to hang around this place. There are so many innovative ideas. I keep hoping some will rub off on me.
  9. Well, for not liking the blade, you certainly made it work well for you. Great job!
  10. Welcome to the forum Pat, you've come to the right place. Sounds like you're doing all the right things to have a rewarding experience in the world of scrolling. I'm Jim from Northwestern Montana. My shop is only heated by wood so winter time can be a little challenging. Hope to hear from you often. Jim
  11. I always have a hard time imagining that there are people in the world who can think about things like this and then make it happen. I guess it's one reason our world keeps evolving. That is a most impressive project. Makes me just a little sad as I struggle to make sure my corners are square and that I have just measured 2 1/2 inches not 1 and 1/2.

    hi

Hi Richard, Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to celebrate a diversity of ideas about scrolling. Sorry for your loss, I understand. My parents have both died and moving on can be difficult. The truth is that your continuation of a hobby that both of you shared is a wonderful memorial. Thanks so much for joining. Jim
  13. Welcome from NW Montana. This is a great place to hang and learn.
  14. Welcome from Northwest Montana. You'll find all kinds of projects and tips on how to do things around here.
  15. Welcome Stephanie from another Montana resident. I'm Jim from Kalispell (a few miles from you). This is a great place to hang out and learn those tips which will make scrolling a much more pleasurable experience.
  16. Great job of getting the word out.
  17. I sit and will work steadily for a half hour or so then go do something like stoke the wood stove or glue something. Usually a break of 10 minutes or so.
  18. Qtips for applying finish in small places. I have a set of tools designed for repair of IBM Selectric typewriters (remember them?) I use them to poke around in small places.
  19. Welcome to the forum. I have learned much for the others here and I know you will too. Enjoy. Jim
  20. I really like that. As a youngster I spent many a day duck hunting with my father. We never had a dog, but loved to watch those with dogs work them. Great looking cut.
  21. Torching the back, that's a great idea. Of course if it were a project I had been working on with a spiral blade, I would torch the whole thing......That's assuming I had any fingers left to light the torch.
  22. I'm a big Bryan Cranston/Walther White fan. Can't wait to see what his next endeavor will be. The change from his Malcolm In The Middle role to Breaking Bad truly showed his artistic abilities. Great looking portrait. One I would like to try one day soon.
