  1. Love them, and I love the name idea!
  2. Love it, and it looks fine to me without the islands!
  3. That's awesome! I so don't have the patience for all those little holes, and really envy people that do. Love it!
  4. I love that! Very well done.
  5. This looks awesome! My husband just about fell in love with it, so maybe I'll get a rounder soon lol!
  6. It's Freddy Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. He passed away in the 80's, I believe.
  7. That's what I'm working on today. My mom found a color-in calender that's meant for kids. I'm going to laminate the pages before gluing them onto my Birch, in hopes of keeping it from wrinkling up. Thanks! They really aren't hard. It's my main interest at the moment, although I do want to get into other toy making slowly. I don't have the expendable funds at the moment to buy a lot of patterns or books.
  8. Hi Josh! I'm also new to scrollsawing and yep it doesn't take long to get absolutely addicted. My husband also thinks I've gone crazy and possibly having a crisis, lol! Like you, I'm ready for something new and I've been looking at Craigslist. There are quite a few used nice saws that cost less than buying them in a store. Just some food for thought. Happy scrolling!
  9. Thanks! There was some trial and error, so I'll save you some trouble. You'll need fairly thick paper, like photo paper or card stock to print on, especially if you live somewhere humid. I use spray glue, and I found that thinner paper would wrinkle up as it dried. Glad you like the idea, I liked it too!
  10. That's really nice! I'm determined to try a bowl one day
  11. Great job! I love it!
  12. I love Geocaching too! I've only found about 5 so far, the weather here has been so nasty. Looking forward to warmer spring days to go find some of the more difficult caches! I've been carrying around some Mardi Gras beads and toys for the larger caches, but the woodwork is great idea!
  13. Here's a few of my completed puzzles. The penguins were first, and my first attempt at freehand. It measures about 4"X4", I found the picture in a calendar at the dollar store. I had a tiger too but the paper got wet in the humidity and wrinkled, and the cuts came out all crazy. The second is a 8"X10" Princess Bride puzzle I made for my husband. I'm still sanding the pieces, but I'm happy with how it came out. Also my first attempt with a pattern, that I measured out and drew myself. It came to 121 pieces, and the pieces are about 1/2" square. The third one I finished is the pony puzzle. Like the movie one, I switched to glossy photo paper, which is thicker and seems holds up to the sticky southern weather better. It's my first attempt at following the natural lines to make a unique puzzle. I initially made it for my niece but she's still too little, so I haven't decided if I'm going to hang on to it, or give it to someone else, or try to sell it. (Obviously, copyright issues would be a concern.) Let me know what y'all think! Oh, and they were all cut from 1/4" Baltic Birch with a size 2 spiral/puzzle blade.
  14. I sit in an old square padded kitchen chair. It's very comfortable and just the right height. If I had to guess, they were probably bought in the early to mid 1970s, as the cushioning is red-orange.
  15. Nah, now that I know where I'm going you'll never get ride of me :P
  16. Hello back to everyone! I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, I forgot to bookmark the website! Anyhoo, I'm really enjoying scrolling so far and getting better every day I get to saw. Unfortunately, my husband and I are renting a duplex and we have no shop or back yard, so my workstation is currently on my parents back porch (They live about 3 miles away,) so I can't saw all the time like I want to. Let's see, I forget the brand...I know my saw was bought at Harbor Freight because I'd never done woodworking before (didn't even take wood shop in school, I opted for art classes instead, because that's what one of my majors is. The other is French, for those curious.) I have discovered that I really like making puzzles (and I have both a craft fair and two conventions coming up and I'm hoping to make a little pocket money, of course!) Both jigsaw and children's. I found some Olson brand spiral blades at Lowe's, but I think next time I'm going to order the Flying Dutchman ones. Unfortunately, there are no Woodcraft stores in Arkansas. The closest one is in OK, a four-hour drive away. Maybe I'll make a day trip of it some day. I like doing the children's puzzles on 1/4" poplar, and the jigsaw puzzles on 1/4" Baltic Birch. I tried to saw some 3/4" pine originally, but it was thick and slow going and I was way too tense! I think I answered everyone's questions about me. I have pictures of everything I've made so far, but they are still in my phone. As soon as I move them to the computer, I will upload them here! Thank you for the kind welcome!
  17. Hello everyone! I asked for a received my very first scroll saw from Santa for Christmas, and have used it so far to make a couple of badly cut puzzles, and practice my lines. I'm getting better every day though! I'm not sure how I got into it. I think I saw one of Steve Good's videos on youtube while looking for something unrelated (Well, not totally, I believe I was looking for how to make a puzzle template for one of my other crafts... but, I digress.) I'm looking forward to checking out the posts and getting to know everyone! Angel
