  1. If you don't aready belong to a yard sale type group, go up to the search bar at the top (with the magnifying glass), and type in online yard sale and your city. Usually more than one will come up and you can click on each one to check them out and see if you want to join.
  2. I don't generally use laquer. I bought some polycrilic spray and like you, I didn't like the way it dried. It was either too rough or made my paper wrinkle. I find high gloss photo paper doesn't need finishing, and for paint if I'm going to finish it instead of just letting the paint day, I use 3M or Alene's craft finishing spray. It doesn't dry as badly as the polycrilic, probably because of the type of thinner in it.
  3. Thanks everyone! And Kevin a lot of times my "french" is in actual French, much to my family's amusement.
  4. Evenin all (well, very early morning at any rate... I had company and we stayed up late having a painting party) Here is the snail I cut out using a coloring page I found online. It took what seemed like forever to sand those rings down where they would fit in no matter what direction they were facing, but I managed it after three mouse sheets and a lot of unladylike language.
  5. I agree with Sully. When you make a pattern, according to copyright law, you own the copyright to it. If you want to go all official, you can pay to have it trademarked. It's really douchey of someone to turn around and sell your creative material that you shared online for free. The cuttings themselves fall under works of art in a subset of copyright law. Some companies (Disney, Marvel, etc.) will send cease and desist (and sometimes go as far as suing), over selling items or patterns made with their trademarked characters. Sometimes they win, sometimes they not because of the works of art law, but it's not worth the court fees to find out. There are way too many open domain options out there.
  6. awesome work Kevin! one day I'll be able to keep up!
  7. Oh no!! I hate that!
  8. I have yet to do fretwork, but I use the 3M spray glue (75? 750? It was the highest number on the shelf), to set the pictures for my puzzles. The first hour or so it's fairly easy to pull it off with a wee bit of residue left that mineral spirits will take off, but let it cure for 12 or so hours and nothing I repeat nothing will make that picture come off of the wood. Well, if you soaked it with mineral spirits it would probably work but why would you do that to a good product ;-)? When I refer to my pictures I use heavy-duty glossy photo paper with a matte back, and give my wood a rough sand first.
  9. Facebook doesn't charge unless you use the promo feature in a business page. I think terrylee was referring to Etsy seller fees.
  10. That is pretty brilliant! Way beyond my skills, so of course I'm impressed.
  11. I do, but it's usually to people I know personally who see my work on my Facebook portfolio then approach me or call me themselves. I've never sold anything I made on Ebay or Etsy. Etsy can be expensive for very little reward.

  21. Hi Jen! Everyone here is super duper friendly, but kinda nice to find another woman my age! I do mostly toys and puzzles (been scrolling since Christmas when I got my first saw, and I'm ready to upgrade already). Eventually I'll do some fretwork, probably for Christmas gifts.
