  1. WOW You guys have way too much time on your hands!!!! Just make sawdust.
  2. Thanks for the info. I also have a 6in belt/disc sander that gets minimal usage. My wife has discovered the Steve Goods Vase patterns and she said that since I was retiring the middle of June I should have plenty of time to make her a bunch of these. I think the spindle would be great for that purpose. I have decided to get a spindle sander but was wondering if I should go ahead with the combo unit. I have read some of the reviews on all of the brands I am considering and a lot of them complains about not being able to get the table square to the belt on all the brands. Do any of you have this problem? I have looked at Rigid, Wen, Harbor Freight and Grizzly. Any other suggestions?
  3. I am considering buying a spindle sander. I have 2 questions. #1 is the spindle/ belt combination something that would get used a lot? #2 is the Rigid actually worth $120.00 more than a Wen or Harbor Freight model? I would like to hear what you guys that have either or models think. Thanks in advance. Larry
  4. Nice looking fire pit Frank. Yes the blocks are heavy. Dr released me after surgery two week ago since then I have unloaded 150 of the big ones 70 of the small ones and will be going back for another 100 big ones this week. Sawdust and Vaseline makes great fire starters. I always carried them in my survival kit.
  5. Are all of your the same species? I have cut 3/4 in with a 2/0 blade many times. If the wood is not the same the difference in the hardness will make a huge problem.
  6. I love the color adding that you do to your projects. I had not thought about the multi species sides the you did it but it looks great. I saw that one and have it on my to do list if the DR ever lets me back in the shop.
  7. I love that one!!!!
  8. When I subscribed to the magazines I would take the center pages to an engineering firm close to my work. They would make me copies of the center pages that I could cut up and scan in easily. I no longer subscribe and have not bought one in a while. This works really well and is not that expensive. I have found digital copies of a lot of the books I own on Scribe. The ones that I don"t have digital copies of I cut apart on the band saw and scan then I have a huge heavy duty 3 hole punch that I use to put them back in 3 ring binders.
  9. Well Jerry beat me to it. I knew I had the pattern just couldn't remember the name of it.
  10. Let me look tomorrow. I may know where to get it.
  11. Go very slow with them. They overheat with almost no pressure and will bend quickly. Don't ask me why I know this!!! I have a lot of Harbor Freight stuff that I am very satisfied with, but every drill bit I have ever bought from them except a set of Warrior wood bits have been crap.
  12. Merry Christmas to everyone. I just realized the snow is back on the screen. Yeah!!!!
  13. Thanks I will get it on order.
  14. Don That is 1/4 inch. It was purchased from Lowes in the finished boards section. I normally mill my own down to about 3/16 but they have me on very light duty until after surgery in January so I had to cheat this time.
  15. Dave I am going to try Chess sets this year and I really like That pattern. Can you point me to where it came from?
  16. Just a few more. The big R has a story behind it. 7 years ago before life got really crazy for a while I made all the family one of these ornaments each. That was the year that my son's first child was born so he got an ornament. Fast forward 7 years when his Mom was decorating the tree this year he wanted to know why his little brother didn't have an ornament. His dad explained that when Pap made them Rylan wasn't around. That was not acceptable so he called me wanting to know if I could fix Rylan an ornament. Any how Steve Goods pattern Poplar wood Olsen 2/0 crown tooth blades. The Snoopy is for my Grandson and Scooby Do Is for my Wife. Patterns are coloring pages from the internet that had bridges added with a White Out pen. Same setup Poplar and 2/0 Olsen. The dinosaurs are thanks to @don in brooklin on I may have misappropriated the patterns that were posted for someone else. Same wood and blade setup. The snowflake stars etc are from the ornament for Charity book Same setup. The humming bird is Sheila Landry patter. Same wood and blades. In case you haven't figured it out yet I really like cutting Poplar wood. Last but not least the final (I think) Initial ornaments. Cedar wood #5 Pegasus skip tooth blades. Everything is straight off the saw with no finish yet Several will be shipped to Arizona raw so that my Grandson and His mother can finish as they see fit. Commits or criticism welcome.
  17. Our tree this year. 100% scroll saw ornaments including the topper.
  18. Thanks for adding that. I knew I was leaving something out.
  19. All of your work is beautiful but I have to say that your frames ate amazing!!!!
  20. This year was my first attempt at compound cutting. I have used Poplar, Cedar, Maple and Pine so far. I think Poplar is my favorite. I have used a combination of Olsen #7 PGT, Pegasus #5 and 7 skip tooth and Pegasus #5 and 7 mg blades. I think the #5 skip is my favorite. The skip tooth blades cut faster but the mg (reverse tooth) blades cut smoother. Guess you have to decide if you want to spend more time cutting or sanding. I do not use the clear tape. Tried it but it seems to collect saw dust and somewhat obscures the lines for me. I use 3M 77 glue applied to the pattern and that applied directly to the wood. I use (2) 3 inch spring clamps to hold the blanks. I have also used a hand screw/ parallel clamp before someone on here posted the spring clamp trick. I made 30 of the Cedar initial ornaments (Steve Goods Patterns) and several of the other type ornaments from various designers this year. My advice would be as follows: #1 Make sure that your wood is square!!!! I can't stress that enough. I will save you headaches in the end #2make sure that your pattern is folded straight and on the proper line. a good crisp line directly on the corner of the wood is imperative. #3 Take your time!!! Let the blade do it's job. Stop at the end of a cut before making a turn and let the blade catch up and straighten itself. I have attached a picture of a few that I made this year. Good luck and have fun!!!!
  21. Welcome from WV. What part of southern KY do you live in? I am just across the river from Louisa KY ( south east part). If we are close let me know I have several books etc that I could loan if you want. Thanks Larry
  22. I made all of our family Initial Ornaments for Christmas this year. All have been delivered except 4. I have been informed that this needs to become a yearly tradition. I made a total of 30 of these. Cedar wood Minwax natural stain and 4 coats of rattle can lacquer.
  23. That is an excellent cutting and that frame is killer!!!!!!
  24. I have cut a few of this years patterns. There is as always some very neat patterns and I plan on trying to get some more done before the holiday if possible. Thanks to all the great designers that donate their time for the good causes that everyone supports. As always my donation will go to the local food banks. Merry Christmas Larry
