I bought some of these 1/4 sheet pads Friday. I have not used them enough to talk about durability yet but these things really cut. I have used the 120 and 180 grit on Poplar boards and they leave almost a glass like finish at the 180 level. Have had fun with these. All are Poplar cut with a combination of Pegasus #7 mg and #5 skip tooth. Dipped on 1 coat of clear Shellac and will get several coats of clear gloss Lacquer when dry. I think I will try one just a bit smaller than the smallest of these just for the fun of it. Both 2D and 3D.

Those are neat. very well cut and finished. I miss my Dachshunds. How do you dilute your Shellac? and what ratio if you don't mind sharing.

My Son and family were in from Arizona 2 weeks ago for Holiday. My Grandson wanted to go to the shop with PAP and make an ornament for his tree. Al tho I did most of the steering we did get a star ornament by Dirks Boelman made. Sorry I let it get away without a picture. Any how Brady picked up some of the scrap from the compound Ornaments and wanted them. I am like OK let me straighten them up for you. I sawed them flat and looked at them and realized that they really didn't look bad. My son even ask why I was throwing them away. So I went back thru some of the scrap and here are some of the results. I get a 3d ornament and also 1 to 4 2d ornaments from the same wood. In the pics you can see the 3d and also the 2ds that were made from the scrap. Your thoughts or critics appreciated.

I have really enjoyed my time back on the saw. I have been trying my hand at compound cuts and wondering why that I took so long to start them. This is my first year at this but I think I may have started something with these. I am looking forward to starting a Chess set after Christmas. Any way all ornaments are cut from Cedar and Poplar with a combination of #7 Olsen PGT and #7 Pegas MG blades. (Look for a order later today Denny.) At this point they were dipped in Shellac with one coat of rattle can Lacquer. They received 2 more coats of Lacquer after the pics were taken. All patterns are (I think) from either Steve Goods or the Ornaments for Charity books except the little Reindeer, can't really remember where that one came from. Any way all comments good or bad are welcome. Sorry about all the junk in the background.

I did some compound cut ornaments over the last few weekends. This was my first attempt at this type cutting. 2 things that I learned really quick are #1 the wood has to be square and #2 the pattern has to be folded accurately. Just a tip for anyone doing these patterns. If you have a scale rule it is the greatest tool going for folding the patterns. Line up the center line atop the triangle and it makes a perfectly straight crisp fold. Just thought I would throw this out.

Again I think there needs to be a category called things that I am not ashamed of. That would be more appropriate for my stuff. Steve Goods ornaments. 19 Cedar initial Ornaments Cedar wood a combination of #7 Olsen PGT and #7 Pegas MG blades dipped in Minwax natural stain and finished with 3 coats of Krylon tipple thick glaze. Not sure I like this product. First time using it. Still Have 5 more to go for my herd. Dog, Humming bird and 3d ornaments raw Poplar off the saw. Wife wants to try her hand at painting them.flat ornaments were cut with Olsen #2 crown tooth blades. Mini Trees are a combo of Cedar and Poplar cut with #7 Pegas blades. Not sure how to finish them yet. And last but not least the reason that I will never get to retire completely. The 3 dogs that the ornaments were cut for. We refer to them as our pack.

I have one of these. Bought it when I built the Cradle for my son. Worked ok for what I needed but don't thimk it would be acurate enough for precision work.

As everyone has said it depends. I have been cutting some ornaments from Cedar wood. I have been using #7 Olsen PGT and #7 Pegas MGT blades. The material is 1.5x1.5 inches. It takes me about 20 minutes per ornament and I have been getting 2.5 to 3 ornaments per blade. Had this been hard Maple or Oak I imagine that would reduce to probably 1 to 1.5 per blade.

I think you will find that Poplar varies widely with the type of Poplar (Yellow, Tulip ect.)

They will open with Microsoft photo editor.

Alex my wife is a bird feeder. In the summer we usually have between 40 and 60 ruby throat Hummingbirds at our house. She usually goes thru 6 to 8 liters of sugar water for food a day. Your pattern is great. I will have to cut this one for my wife.

Dogs are good. If it weren't for them I could probably be fully retired. We have an area we call the bark park that is fenced off about 60 x 100 ft that they spend the days in if it is not too hot. They will definitely let you know when it is feeding time.

It has been quite a while since I got to do any kind of woodworking. The last thing that I can recall doing was a cradle for my Sons first born. He will be seven in December. After Dad passed and I moved Mom up next to us all that I have had time for was construction type work. Wife took of to see her friend in Florida last week and I stayed home to take care of the Dogs. Being that I am now semi retired I decided to take some time and uncover my Scroll Saw and move enough around in the garage that I would not kill myself while trying to move around. Not actually bragging (we should have a forum entitled stuff that I not ashamed of). I started out with some simple ornaments in Poplar wood ( I think all those patterns were from the Village Charity Book) to see if: 1 The saw still worked. 2 I could still follow a line. After that I decided to try my hand at compound cutting. Always wanted to but had never had the time. Those are made from Eastern Cedar. Steve Goods patterns. Below are the results. All are straight off the saw and blown off with the air hose, no sanding or finish hopefully that will come later and not be another 7 years. Thoughts good or bad welcome.

Thanks Barb and Melanie for the info. I will give her a call this evening. I am in the garage trying to move and clean enough to get to my saw. It has been about 6 years since it has been used and a lot of stuff has accumulated in that time. Thanks Larry

Every thing looks great. I feel like wordle is a secondary skill to the saw. Can you direct me to the pattern for the ribbon type tree in the first picture? It looks familiar but I cant place it. It looks like I may actually get some saw time this week and I would like to make some ornaments. Thanks Larry

Just a shout out to Denny and the great service. I ordered blades Sept 5 Labor day and Sept 9 they were in my Mail box. Now to find time to try them out and see if they can make this old Olsen fan a believer. Thanks Larry
