  8. Welcome, Jeff. This is a great place to learn the craft of scrolling. You might also might visit Steve Good's site. He has several free downloadable pattern makers in which you just type in the name and font and you can print out a pattern. I used this to learn the basics of scrolling. It can be located at www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com. Have fun, Ward
  9. Wow.. That really stands out.. not that I like horses or anything. :)

  13. I visit HD every day on my way home from work. They have a "culled lumber" cart of off cut pieces. I have been doing most of my learning to use the scrollsaw on these off pieces. Many times the pieces are just given to me free of charge. The norm is 70% off the price of the normal piece. I have some very nice pieces of cherry oak, 12" by 3/4" by 4 foot for $2.00. Have not the skill yet to use better lumber, but I am glad I am not using pricey wood to learn on. Ward
  14. Hello Linda and Welcome. I also am fairly new to scrolling, but the members of this Village have welcomed and helped me quite a bit. Look around the site, ask questions, give opinions and show us what you are up to. Ward

  17. As a new scroller, I am still learning the ropes. I have used some of the patterns on this site, and on Steve Good's site, including making desk name plaques. I have NOT sold any of these items, I am just honing my skills on them. What is the proper procedure for this? I am not claiming any of these patterns as my own, and everyone knows this. Should I be somehow be inscribing the pattern makers name on everything I make? I don't even put my name on them, they are being made for fun and not profit. I have played around with the GIMP tutorials and would hopefully like to make patterns. I can certainly understand a "RANT" if I were to spend the time and effort to make a pattern and then discover that someone is selling my pattern. I join the others on this forum that there is no offence taken to expressing one's concerns and frustrations over this type of issue. I would consider this a type of copywrite infringement.

  25. Welcome Scott, I am from AZ. New here too and have been pleased that everyone has been very supportive. I have learned a lot here and have had many questions answered, some before they are asked, as the forums seem to cover many topics. Have a blast and hope to see some postings of your work. Ward
