  1. Hey don't worry about it. I frequently find myself in the same position.
  2. Been there, done that. Better luck next tine!
  3. I was born and raised in a lumber town. I hope the prices for lumber continue to rise until they reach a reasonable level and stay there. Where reasonable allows towns such as mine to prosper rather than to suffer from the boom and bust economy that the town has endured for over 100 years.
  4. Thanks Don, it's installed.
  5. Thankyou. That really is an excellent font! Now, I am going to attempt something along the lines of what you did. I'm not expecting to as well as you, but I think I can do OK.
  6. I agree with what people are saying here. You did an excellent job of adapting the font for scrolling and of cutting. I know from experience just how precise and accurate one needs to be to accomplish what you have accomplished.
  7. Hey Don, maybe you can help me here. I am able to download the font just fine and I end up with a folder with 4 files in it, namely: SnellBT-Bold SnellBT-Regular SnellRoundhand-BlackScript SnellRoundhand-BoldScript and these are all OpenType font files. But how the heck do I install a downloaded font?
  8. Thanks Don. You are certainly the go-to-guy for font information.
  9. I did not design the pattern; Steve Good did and I don't know what font he utilized. I do very much like whatever font it is.
  10. We no longer have a beach on Pellow's Island. But we do have plenty of places to swim. Here is a photo of two of our grandchildren and I (taken about 10 years ago) at a dock near the front of the island. I've made a lot of scroll-sawn art that would be appropriate here, but will chose just one piece: This plaque measures 35 centimetres by 42 centimetres. The background and frame are made from Cherry and walnut. The foreground pieces have been made from figured maple. The basic design is by Sheila Landry. I modified the design in order to have the island a cabin simulate our cabin on Pellow's Island in Lake Pivabiska. Many many loons make Lake Pivabiska their home in the spring and summer.
  11. Actually, if you count the time that we dated before getting married, it is 62 years with that one special person.
  12. For her, and for you!
  13. That's the plan.
  14. With the marriage or the plaque?
  15. We were married on July 2nd in 1966. Steve Good has an anniversary pattern for most years and I made one last year. This morning, I relpaced last years plaque with an updated one. The plaque is located on one of our kitchen widow-sills The foreground is made of 6mm thick Figured Maple and the background of 18mm thick Baltic Birch plywood treated with Light Green Saman stain.
  16. This being the day of our 55th Wedding Anniversary, the old plaque is being replaced on out Kitchen window-sill.
  17. You are correct about that Frank. I'm not surprised about the lack of negative criticism. Most people are not good at either giving nor receiving constructive criticism. In my career as a software developer specializing in human factors, such criticism was vital and I learned to depend on my few colleagues who were good at both. Another observation about SSW is that if you ask for advice and help, you are likely to get it. Over the years, I have learned a LOT here and have seldom been disappointed.
  18. Well done, as always, Frank! I particularly like the jelly fish and would purchase it if I could visit your gallery.
  19. I like it Don. I hope to get our second shots booked tomorrow and to get the actual shots before the end of June. I altered Steve's plans a little bit to make pins to wear once we are fully vaccinated: I will probably wear the more subtle one in public but the blatant one with family and close friends.
  20. Well done! I wonder why the sudden popularity of gnomes. I've made two myself and plan the make more. Is the recent popularity only here at Scrollsaw Village and at Steve Good's site or is it more widespread?
  21. I thank you for you complements on my work. It appears that you are struggling with H.L Menchen's quote. I guess your struggle is because, for you, Morality is derived from Religion. The difficulty is that one can derive different moral guidelines from different religions and even from different interpretations of the same religion. I prefer to think that Morality comes from the basic Decency and Goodness of most humans. Then, I couple that with Common Sense.
  22. This is proving to be quite popular. I've now made five of them in total and, just this week, two of my nieces saw a photo of the one that I made for another niece and asked me to make one for each of them as well. Other than my our annual year-end greeting cards, I will have cut more of this design than of any other.
  23. I really like this Frank When I utilized your 'Parrot and Peony' pattern (see: My version of 'Parrot and Peony' - Bragging Rights - Scroll Saw Village), I liked the result but I had a lot of trouble with the paining. I thought, then, that I would not try something like it again. But, I like this so much that I'm going to put myself through all that painting bother again. It will make a good companion piece.
  24. Thanks. I agree with you that, if I use green, it should be a darker green.
  25. You really do understand what I put into this piece Richard. Thanks
