  1. That was fast Don. Steve only just created that pattern. I like what you did with it. I made a few gnomes from his earlier patterns and will follow up with some that I make using this one.
  2. It's this Loon pattern (a Steve Good pattern) that I plan to use.
  3. I agree. The version that I am about to cut wil soon be hanging on my lakeside cabin wall.
  4. I think that the real Walnut that you did use is better than any stained wood that you could have used.
  5. Well done! I've been thinking of doing this pattern for some time. The way that you have utilized the pattern is an inspiration and I think that I I have some Walnut somewhere that will be appropriate. The only problem will be in finding that Walnut.
  6. It's not my pattern. The pattern was designed by Sasho Janevski. And, the pattern is free. It can be found in the Pattern Library here at the Scrollsaw Village. It's on the first page under the 'Scenic' category.
  7. That's what I suspected Alex. I think I will attempt a similar pattern for the Canadian province of Ontario.
  8. I, too, much prefer patterns in red. The best are grey shading with red cut lines. I guess that I should try to learn how to use Inkscape. My printer can certainly handle it. It's an Epson colour Inkjet with refillable tanks and the ink lasts a LONG time. The initial cost is high but there is very little cost after that. I highly recommend it
  9. Alex, do you have any plans to create patterns for other countries and their provinces/states/counties/whatever? Or, does the potential revenue from other countries just not warrant your effort.
  10. I still like getting out and shoveling snow. I take my time, enjoy the beauty and peace, and remember many happy times throughout my life shoveling with others. This winter has been very wimpey in Toronto. Right now we have no snow on the ground and I doubt that we will get any more this winter.
  11. I recognized her in the first picture.
  12. I often do exactly what he said.
  13. Where does the time go? It's been five years since I completed this 'Kittens and Tiger' piece from a pattern by Mike Williams.
  14. With your output, I do find that hard to believe. I guess you are simply more efficient than I am.
  15. I thank you for letting me know about this piece. I've, now ordered the pattern from Fiona and will be starting on it soon (with thicker wood ).
  16. That's a great tip about "painting" the back of a piece in an area of perceived fragility with thinned epoxy in advance of cutting it.
  17. I love both Fiona's pattern and the job that you did with it.
  18. Frank I really like the way you did this. Your treatment takes a very good pattern and makes it outstanding. Yes, your scrolling is good, but what really makes this is your use of colour! The raccoons really pop out. Also, I very much appreciate your explanation of the project.
  19. Thanks Melanie. Margaret was even happier with this than I expected her to be.
  20. That's a good likeness! I'm glad that you didn't use the other photo for the portrait.
  21. I am going to give this "card" to Margaret tomorrow morning: It's a Steve Good pattern that I used but I replaced Steve's wording. When our daughter Kathleen was 3 she, with her Grandmother's help, gave us some candies that looked like this to us for Valentines Day. The candies had various sayings on them and Kathleen thought that that saying "Dig Me" was very funny. I can certainly understand why a three year old would think that. She referred to all the candies of this type as 'Dig Me's and that's what our whole family has called them ever since. Yes, that type of candy still exists. I know that Margaret is going to love this. It triggers so many happy memories for both of us.
  22. I like your box very much Frank. My guess is that such a box is made following "tribal" traditions and can be used for whatever the "tribe" that created the box deemed appropriate. For example, here is a photo of a bentwood box that I made and out of a single white cedar plank using traditional Haida sawing, steaming, and carving techniques and traditions:
  23. I'm not at all interested in professional sports. So many participants are paid obscene amounts of money and are elevated in many people's minds to being much more important and influential than they should be. I feel so strongly about this that I go to the opposite extreme and don't even read about such sports. Having ranted about that, I did and, in a few cases, still do participate in many amateur sports and encourage those around me to do so. My grandson Ethan is a good baseball pitcher and I made this 'Stickman Baseball' thingy for him: Steve Good designed the pattern for this. Another good competitive activity is Chess and that is regarded as a sport by many folks. I also made this Steve Good designed chess set and "stick" chess players for Ethan:
  24. You have done a great job on those. I know of what I speak because I have utilized both these patterns myself. And, I too, plan to cut these again.
  25. I want to draw attention to today's free pattern from Steve Good: It can be found on Steve's Scrollsaw Workshop web site. Once Margaret and I are vaccinated, I intend to make these for us. I also plan to offer to make them free for all my friends and relations. The vaccine rollout is slow here in Canada (because, much to our shame, we need to rely on imports) but, at least, the rollout appears to be well controlled, fair, and orderly. I'm guessing that we will get vaccinated in April or May.
