  1. Looks really good for a beginner. I would recommend blades other than store brand. Bosch may make great power tools, but there are some truly great blades out there that will increase your love for the hobby due to their longevity and "trueness".
  2. I'm first after Dan offering a unbiased opinion after 3 to 5 years of testing.
  3. Rolf uses a TON of 2/0 blades. Just about anything he has posted here is done with 2/0 Olsons
  4. There is always 50# fishing line--nearly invisible. I also like the leather idea--depending on what the award is actually celebrating.
  5. Great piece of work. That is a real centerpiece of a décor.
  6. Took me about 15 seconds to know that the deadman switch was for me. Don't know how i got anything done before.
  7. Got to agree with Gonzoon this. As much as I like FD blades, the Pegas seems to work better for me on thicker stuff. Wish I would have some when I was cutting birdhouses.
  8. I have that pattern started and work on it from time to time. I have lost count of the number of entry holes. That mill is at Babcock State Park in WV. I have been there a few times. I would post one of photos of the mill, but can't find an icon to post from my hard drive. Don't feel like finding it in my Photo Bucket to get the URL. Travis told me how to get the picture uploaded--what a help! This is one of mine from 2011 during a drought and they had the water to the mill shut down.
  9. I use blue or green tape all the time and if I have a piece left on something, I use a dental pick to lift the tape cleanly. And I have never had a problem getting tape off stuff after long periods of storage. On rare pieces, it does seem to slightly raise the grain if the tape and grain run in same direction.
  10. Great cutting for a servant of the people. Thanks for his service and sacrifices.
  11. Windows 10 has the WORST picture filing I have seen since I left the darkroom at the newspaper.
  12. Another fun--and HIGHLY unscientific--poll.
  13. Again, these polls are not to start a big debate of what is better, just to see what people are thinking. I can't tell if I told this thing to make the votes visible. If not, I will post updates or delete and start over. Jim
  14. Trackman started an interesting question on another thread, so I am trying to design a couple of fun polls. These should be enlightening over the course of time. The purpose is not so much to start a discourse of who is right, just a way to judge attitudes.
  15. I'm thinking the ball pein or maybe even a ball bearing might be your simplest route.
  16. There is a series on videos on YouTube®. Look for Gwinnett Woodworkers--should find it. Or look for DW788.

  18. I am afraid you have run up against a sign painter from years ago. It was probably a style he developed which worked well for his style of painting. This person was most probably contracted by the stained glass company. Having done some calligraphy and brush lettering years ago, I would try very hard to copy type faces, but they always had some variations due my techniques. My art teacher at the time said the hardest thing to do in lettering was to completely follow someone else's work.
  19. I this ready to scan as a six page PDF document. Then all you have to do is butt splice the pages and trim. I'm going to save it to a thumb drive and if I see a request later, I can send it from my laptop. Six page version now attached--Jim 50 QUARTERS.pdf
  20. This is similar to what I found. I actually had searched for "reindeer silhouette". Thanks for the looks.
  21. Did about 30 of these (before breakage). Most of them are plain, but for a few, I added "diamond" studs and 12mm hoop earrings. Did these out of a bunch of woods I had hanging around. This started as a Google image search for "cartoon reindeer" and a couple of trips to Hobby Lobby for wobble eyes and pompoms and they were ready. (I had it turned vertical on the hard drive, don't know why the forum reverted them back to their original orientation)
  22. One more thing to try is "nicking" the paper with a razor knife right were you want the bit to go through. The paper is already compromised at that point and will lessen the tear out. All said sharp and fast are the way to go.
  23. Jerry and Dave: I'm only a couple of weeks behind you in winter storage. Always a sad day when the weather gets too cold consistently to be outside sawing. Problem is, she still expects me to be out on the mower. There is something inherently wrong with mowing in a Carhartt® jacket and gloves!
  24. I gave a lot of thought to doing a glue up when I was doing my birdhouses. I may have to go back and do that option. Good looking designs.
  25. As my wife, the Ohio State grad, says, "I will cheer for Alabama when they play Al-Queda".
