  1. Nice work, looks like these are the hot item.
  2. Looks good.
  3. Happy wife, happy life. When I first started scrolling I tried to do some inlay work but never really got the hang of it. Now that I have a few more years on the saw under my belt, and a few pounds over it, I'm going to revisit the inlay process. The saws & blades have improved over the years which make for a better finished product. The boxes I've seen on this site have definitely motivated me. Over the years I've never really made anything with the intention of selling it. Things I've made were usually given away to family & friends or I made something because it posed a challenge. I've always had an interest in repurposing wood, maybe it comes from the treehouse days as a kid. I'll hang on to some wood finds until I find the idea that fits the wood. My wife does a few select shows each year and she convinced me to do one with her this pass July. With my list of things to make and how many to make of each one I realized early on that the idea of making a dozen of one item & then a dozen of another really didn't interest me. While at the July show my wife & I were invited to a handmade only show at a local museum in December. I wasn't much interested but she convinced me that this was the show she had wanted to get invited to. Again, happy wife, happy life. If we are invited to do this show again next year at least I'll have 12 months to make what I want to make and if it sells, fine, and if not at least I'll have my Christmas shopping done. Some of her wares. The mushroom houses have a plastic cup inside & the top hinges open. The bear & bunny and the unicorn on the table have articulating arms & legs. She has an army of Santa, snowmen & reindeer for the December show and several plastic tubs full of other items. Our granddaughter as a hat model.
  4. Kevin, these are glass mirrors. Craft stores have pre -cut rounds from 1"- 8" for about $1.50 for a 5" mirror. I watch the ads for a 40% off coupon.
  5. These look great. How did you get the lines in the base of the manger?
  6. Those are cool, nice work.
  7. Great choice of colors they really make that piece stand proud.
  8. Purchased them at a craft store to make hand mirrors, they have an assortment of sizes. I believe it to be cherry. Just a coat of spray can shellac.
  9. This is from Steve Good's newsletter. I had some 5' mirrors leftover from other projects and thought they would work here. I routed a recess in the back for the mirror and will secure it with some silicone. Probably add a piece of felt to the back to avoid scratches.
  10. I scanned her card and used Rapid Resizer to fit the birds in the space. Others on this site that make beautiful inlay boxes gave me the idea on how to fit it into place.
  11. Made a card holder for my wife. I took the dragonfly holder and replaced it with my wife's logo. Stacked a piece of purpleheart onto an oak background and used the inlay technic to fit it in place. Thanks for looking.
  12. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused you due to my misunderstanding your question. Yes I think the "C" would still look like the "K" was over it.
  13. Good news is that it looks good & you have already found a solution to the problem. I think if you drill one hole on the outside of the black line and cut the outside, don't cut the two lines across the "C" and then cut the red out of the inside. What you have left should be the black outline of the letters, just paint that black. Paint the backboard were needed red and glue the letters over the red and the arrowhead to the backboard. Hope that makes sense.
  14. I think it looks great, nice work on the inlay.
  15. Very nice,
  16. For just learning to cut with spiral blades that is a fine looking piece, Great job!
  17. Some years back my wife had me cut these for a show she was doing and advertised them as ornaments, the first day maybe sold 5. The next day she changed the sign to read gift tags and sold the remaining 45 pieces. I guess its all about marketing.
  18. If you have a ReStore in your area you can check there for wood. The one in our area gets dressers donated & sometimes the only parts they can save and resell are the drawers. The sides in most cases is no thicker than 1/2" wood, for a buck or two it's good practice material. Look at the corners and the type of joint used, that's a good sign that it is wood. If it has staples securing the corners walk away, its more than likely cheap particle board.
  19. Not only do these look great but the concealment of the entry hole is perfect. Beautiful pieces.
  20. Cut these from 1/4" birch ply, they measure about 3"-5" for Santa, Spielman-Reidle patterns. I coat the sides and one face with poly , this allows someone to sign the back and attach it to a present as a keepsake. Stack cut 4 at a time. Thanks for looking.
  21. Those look awesome!
  22. Definitely like your way of thinking, necessity is the mother of inventions. After I had read your post describing the arbor you made, one of the things that popped in my head was to use a rubber grommet from a cord grip or a small bushing, I think the washers would expand it just enough. The hole saws are Milwaukee, 400rpm. I backed out the pins on the arbor and let the bit sit flat against the arbor, eliminates the wobble, adjustable pliers to change out the saw. I cut 4" stock and screw it in 4 corners to a waste table on the drill press & 2 screws in the center area to hold the plug. I cut the outside first then the inside and that left the bracelet on the smaller saw. 220 grit disc sander for the outside & spindle sander inside. Found some small buffing pads at HF that I worked inside and used Beall buffing on the out.
  23. Great idea @Wichman. I made some bracelets for my grand daughters using a pair of hole saws, 2.5" inside & 3" outside, some I just left square. These will fit a thin wrist.
