  1. A very nice looking project. Good work.
  2. Some really great scrolling!
  3. Actually it's Cloe and Cooper. Many thanks to Russ Beard for the great patterns. These are my daughter's miniature Yorkies. 1/8" pre finished BB, #2/0 Pike blades.
  4. I jut found it troublesome as the sawdust got under the tape and obscured the line. I thought I had burnished very well but perhaps not enough. I have lots of packing tape so may try it again on some compound cutting. That's where I tried using it before and got frustrated.
  5. Never have blade problems. I have a 9" HF band saw. I had a cherry 12" band saw. Older one with cast iron table. Was like new. I thought I would try re-sawing. Without a planer it would be useless. I seldom used it so I sold it last fall. My 9" is a workhorse for me. $125 well spent several years ago. I bought it for pen blanks but now use it every day for cutting miscellaneous things for scrolling. Very handy. Sits next to my scroll saw. I'm sure you will enjoy the Wen equally as well.
  6. That rolling base looks good. Nice to be able to move things around!
  7. I also am left handed and have to sit to the right of center or it becomes more difficult to follow a line.
  8. I used a 3lb metal coffee can with a plastic lid which I reinforced with 1.8" plywood on the top and bottom like a sandwich. Worked prefect until the flange on the plastic lid cracked and caused it to leak. Problem was the can was probably 20 or more years old and I believe the plastic finally deteriorated. Neither my wife or I drink coffee. I don't think coffee comes in metal cans but I don't know. If there are 3lb plastic containers they would work. I liked the plastic lid because it was infinitely easier to fabricate the lid than on the flip top canister. However both work really well.
  9. Very nicely done!
  10. It's finished. Perhaps I should post this in the bragging section but since I started here I'll post it here. Travis may wish to move it and that's fine with me. Went together well. There are things I will do differently on the next one. I have 2 daughters. I immersed each piece prior to assembly in BLO. I used plain old Elmer's white glue. Worked well. Sets up fast and is strong. At least strong enough for this application. 1/8" cut with 2/0 Pike jewelers blades. 1/4" cut with 2/0 PegasMG blades. Lots of pieces with straight edges I cut on my table saw and Dremel table saw. I need to do a complete overspray but not sure what I will use. I did not keep time on the project. Too many interruptions. I think wood was well under $100 including shipping. Some wood was for other projects.
  11. Very nice work on a great pattern! How thick is your wood?
  12. I would no hesitate for a moment to jump on the deal. It looks like 1992 in the photo. Same as a new one. They have changed very little if any. My go to blade is 2/0 or 3/0. I cut mostly 1/8 or 1/4 inch material. My blades never break unless I carelessly bend the blade or it finally fatigues and breaks where the teeth have been cutting. If I were younger I would purchase the 18 inch or the polymax. Worth every penny! $400 is a bargain unless the saw has been damaged in some way.
  13. Get a Hegner and stop worrying about breaking #2/0 blades. They are my go to blade. The break when they fatigue from heat. Has a lot to do with the material you are cutting. I cut mostly 1/8" BB and the blades cut for quite awhile.
  14. Glad to see you are back Ralph. A new house can be exciting. Great opportunity to set up things just the way you like it.
  15. Your set-up looks very nice and clean. Ray is correct. The aluminum cyclone will be your vacuums best friend. Will keep you from constantly changing filters. Scroll saw dust is so very fine, it will clog a filter in no time at all. The little cyclones are very efficient. I know you will be happy with your DC.
  16. Thanks for the Alie update. I just ordered the aluminum one. $17.44. I don't need it but I'll replace the plastic one to keep everything uniform. Why not? My kids don't need money. I think that is about what you and I paid several years ago.
  17. Those are creative and very well done!
  18. Kudos are in order for a very worthy project!
  19. Salvage wood is the best wood. I found a chest of drawers that was all 1/2" Poplar. But it's been a while since I've found anything.
  20. When I tried the artfactory I had googled fretwork clock patterns. The artfactory came up in a list. I clicked on it and it said the site could not be reached. Kinda weird as I have done that many times without a problem. Typing the .com address worked. Thank you for the replies!
  21. Weird. On my computer it informed me the sight could not be reached. I tried twice. It just came up fine on my cell phone. Thanks!
  22. Unfortunately the artfactory.com does not work.
  23. I am building a Dirk Boelman clock, The Williamette. I think I bought the plans from the Winfield Collection. I'm looking for more of Dirk's plans. I've gone back to the Winfield Collection site and cannot find any Fretwork clock patterns. I must be having a senior moment as I thought that is where I purchased the pattern but it has been a while since I ordered it. Does anyone know where his patterns can be purchased since his website is no longer up?
