  1. good job .... Looks like an old album....
  2. Welcome to the Village from the only NoDak (North Dakota) member ... Great job on the parrot puzzle.. Keep us posted on future projects
  3. Reading about all of you doing shows is giving me the idea that I should do one or two again this fall Have not done a show since November of 2010
  4. nice job ... I have been thinking about wood burning for a while... I just ordered a kit ... plan on taking it with me to the lake cabin this summer and see what I can with it
  5. 95% of the time I am standing when I saw. The regular foot control (which I now have 2 of and don't use) is more for use when sawing while sitting (in my opinion) .. I bought a foot switch through Amazon... it is about 4 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches and only 1 1/2 inch high.... works better for me than the pedal foot controll
  6. Spiral blades can be a challenge I have dabbled with them in certain conditions where a piece is too large for the depth of the saw. I very seldom use them myself.... many scrollers use only spiral blades Good Luck ... Let us know how you do
  7. I agree completely..... When I first started scrolling I thought every pattern had to be followed precisely .... I guess I thought the Scroll Saw Pattern Police would show up if I deviated at all.... Now I cut and alter as needed.... The fun is in the actual sawing
  8. Ocooch Hardwoods is great and prices are good.... I have some on the way now
  9. great job cutting and saving the D
  10. well said..... not much more to add
  11. For many years I did all my scrolling in the basement... BUT ... I have a large house over 100 years old... at one time there were 9 apartments in the house until it we converted to a single family dwelling. Because of all the apartments (small ones ) there was a furnace for the basement and another with central air for the top two floors . Each floor about 1500 sq. ft.... When scrolling in the house there was a little dust but nothing to severe (probably due to the square footage After the flood of 2011 when we rebuilt the house and replaced all plumbing, electrical and HVAC we added one large furnace but zoned it for the three floors... at that time I added a second story to my garage for cold storage and took one of the three garage stalls and sectioned it off for my shop
  12. nice work.... I used to time my projects but gave up on that many years ago..... I actually have an old time clock. I would punch in and out on each project
  13. Sounds like a good time was had by all!!
  14. good job. Keep scrolling and making sawdust
  15. I agree with Gonzo ...I also hold a piece of white paper behind the blade especially with smaller teeth to make it easier to see When I open a new bundle I figure out which end is the top and then put the remaining blades in the holder with the top up.... they all come out the same way
  16. I have been staining Baltic Birch for years.... my secret is I sand every piece (even the small ones with a 180 or 220 grit ... I use a mouse sander ... the sanding seems to seal the pores of the wood so the stain does not soak in.... by sanding the stain will not be as dark as it is not soaking in... I use small foam brushes to do the staining and Heavy duty blue shop towels to wipe it off.... after staining throw brushes away ... they are inexpensive and not worth cleaning after staining I use a clear Danish Oil to seal the wood and highlight the wood grain... I do not like a glossy finish so I use 1, maybe 2 coats... I apply this with disposable foam brushes also When I assemble the clocks I glue and use a 23 ga. pin nailer which makes the clocks really quite sturdy This works for me ... a couple clock examples shown
  17. Great job cutting.... nice pattern ... great work!!
  18. nice work ... welcome to the Village
  19. welcome to the Village .... I use Baltic Birch plywood for a lot of my projects.. 1/8 and 1/4 inch most of the time ... I purchase it online ...readily available
  20. Maybe mine will come today
  21. Thanks.... if weather permits I can open the overhead door and roll it outside and let mother nature blow the dust away
  22. very nice!! ... excellent cutting
  23. I have been buying from Heritage for a number of years.... the wood is good... the service tends to be a bit slow.. the original owners sold to the people who own it now.... the service seems to be slower (getting the product) I think the scroll saw thing is secondary. I do not buy their scroll saw packs ... I order larger pieces (24x24 inch) in 1/8. 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and sometimes 3/4
  24. OK .... Thanks for the advice on attaching picture Here is the carousel work bench for bench top powerthere tools that I created.... tools are just randomly placed for picture ... will anchor them once I have the configuration and tools I want on the bench
