  1. Greetings from North Dakota.... welcome ..... lots of great advice here for the asking
  2. Thanks for the replies... I have found some of his patterns at various sites. I was hoping there was a new site to go to which would have all his patterns... I should have purchased more of them way back when ....
  3. And to further this discussion ..... I am getting lose to retiring. Scroll sawing is going to be my"thing" to do. I keep finishing projects and my inventory is growing again.... I may have to consider doing shows again just to make some room for more inventory.... I have all displays and tables .....
  4. One more topic... Years ago I purchased and did many scroll saw patterns by The Old Griz. I see a few of his patterns scattered throughout other sites of pattern sellers I believe The Old Griz passed away Is there any place to see all his patterns and purchase some more When I go to his website a oldgriz.biz all I get is a bunch of Chinese writing. Thanks
  5. I guess if you are referring to the area to be cut out: if it is a lot of small detail to cut I will sometimes take a highlighter and color in all the areas to remove....makes it easier to see sometimes
  6. I am in full agreement .... I feel the same .... the more I use them the more i like them.... they seem easier to control than some blades
  7. Most of them gather sawdust rather than make sawdust.... maybe someday they will be antiques and collector items ... like the crown tooth blades
  8. Eureka .... searching the internet between talking on the radio I found the plans for the carousel workbench... I am adding them to the other plans I have. The carousel would fit under the steps where I have my dopier and some cabinets.... again this would entail a remodel of the workshop but that might not be the worst thing I am going to scan the plans to my laptop
  9. If you run across the plans for this it might be a solution..... I would have to rearrange one wall of cabinets but what the heck..... people redo houses and kitchen etc.... a wood shop should be no different I did order a set of plans for a flip top bench that I may tackle when weather warms should have it by end of week
  10. I agree.... still one of the newer members but all the help and access to the patterns is terrific!!
  11. I'm with heppnerguy ..... I vacuum the dust when it starts accumulating.... and all the little wood pieces that fly off the saw.... Almost time for spring cleaning
  12. I usually buy from Heritage wood specialties in Fergus Falls, Mn and Woodworkers Source Also from Ocooch
  13. A big welcome from North Dakota.... glad to hear you are scrolling.... It tends to get addictive.... Many helpful people here
  14. There are only a few I use all the time a couple sizes (3 and 5) in a three types that I use 90% of the time Why I have so many?? not sure .... I uploaded new picture above but not sure if it is there ..... no big deal
  15. not sure why picture is behind text but you get the idea
  16. Someone asked in another thread about my blade storage technique. This is as it is now....New tubes coming so I can replace some and make some modifications See if this picture opens I guess you could say I am a "blade" collector But when it comes down to it there are a couple sizes in 3 styles I use the most
  17. I actually bought my first scroll saw to make rough cuts in basswood blocks as I also dabble in wood carving... mainly spirit faces and troll faces in cottonwood bark. I lost most of my bark in the flood of 2011 so I have been relenishing my supply as cottonwood trees are cut down by the city. I am on the Minot City Council and on the forrestry advisory board so I have an inside track. I found a book with some simple wildlife patterns and that got me started on scroll sawing. I take my knives and bark to the cabin in Minnesota when we go to do some carving.... easier than hauling a scroll saw My passion in sawing is making clocks of all types... small to large... I have well over 100 patterns for clocks. the last couple years I have been concentrating on large clocks.... many by Dirk Boehlman and a lot from Wilckens Woodworking... I am working on the Tower of Time Clock from Wilckens ... top floor is all cut and ready for finishing and only two or three pieces left on the second floor to cut out ... then into sanding and finishing mode for the top two floors
  18. I will get a picture and get it posted ... maybe this afternoon
  19. well... we only received about 4-5 inches of snow so only an hour of quality time with my snow blower... had a few challenges with the transmission at one point. It is going to the dealer for a "spa" day when winter decides to end. have been using the Pegas blades for a couple days. the do seem to cut a bit more aggressive than some blades I have used even the FD 2-way cut. I am like others ... I have just about every type of blade you could imagine and it comes down to using the following for very fine detail cutting I go back to an Olson 2/0 or $ 2 blade (up to 1/2 in thickness - stacked cutting) for regular cutting I use a FD 2 way cut #3 or #5 ( this may get replaced by the Pegas #3 or #5 MGS ) for rough cutting I use a #7 or #9 or larger in what ever I grab... does not seem to matter My blade display looks like tiered test tube racks from a chemistry lab but filled with scroll saw blades'
  20. hmmm.... 20 years setting up and running Kmart stores... then 13 years running a Chrysler/Toyota dealership.... started wood carving and graduated into scrollsawing about 15 years ago .... I did craft shows for years until 2011... had to rebuild my house after big flood ... took over 6 months. set up my shop in garage and decided I did not want to make things I thought people might want to buy... I have a trailer full of displays and products and another PU load in my garage I still scroll a lot .almost daily .... make big challenging projects ... maybe back to shows after I retire from radio business
  21. lucky find ..... maybe some of us will get that lucky
  22. welcome to the Village from Snowy North Dakota ... great group of scrollers with lots of good information
  23. welcome to the Village ... not sure about the spiral blades.... not the choice for me..... ugh
  24. Worbler --- looks like a great power tool bench.... not enough room in my configuration
  25. I printed off a couple plans I found online while doing my radio show on Saturday.... the one that interests me the most is 3Dwoodworking plans ... about 5 ft X 30 " Still looking ... plans for a smaller one with one tooll on each side of the flip would be great.... I would build 2 and set them side by side infront of my overhead door... all construction will have to be this summer after things warm up... The smaller one I could build in my shop otherwise not enough room I did spend about a hour with my buddy John Deere (the snowblower) this afternoon.... hoepfully this will be the last time this winter
