  1. i call enough with the cold for this year. i can't afford to heat an uninstalled building unless i am working in it. so i thought i would share how i save my paint. i built these shelves when i didn't use paint often enough to need it in the shop. so i knew i needed to keep warm when i moved it.. the floor and walls are covered with 1/4" Styrofoam and the divider is a cooler lid that falls 1" from the front cover to allow for air flow and to keep from over heating the paint. i use a 25W fluorescent bulb. it's surface holds at a temp you can almost hold in in your hand. a regular bulb would melt the styro. not having room for swinging doors and the fact 1 door had to be about 7" bigger i made a 2 layer cover for the paint side and just the outer for the other. this has worked great all winter.
  2. i like these for hanging things, they have a very low profile. https://smile.amazon.com/Sawtooth-Hanger-ART-DISPLAY-SYSTEMS/dp/B000OL0U28/ref=sr_1_4?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1523052674&sr=1-4&keywords=sawtooth+picture+hangers
  3. shiny heart poster board.
  4. just playing with a new idea.... a different kind of jimmy your thoughts would be great....
  5. i have spent my whole life doing different "arts". i did lights , sound, and makeup for plays in my youth. in my 20 i learned how to make life casts and masks and have made maybe 60 over the years. i lived in the house my wife and mother-in-law (yes, and i'm glad she lives with us) for 10 years. without a long story it had structural problems that would cost to much to repair. so we put a house on the property right next to it. with almost no woodworking experience and knowing the house would have to be torn down i began removing the 80yo trim and doors to allow it to live on. SOOO i began building my shop to make t hings for my for my family to honor that home. this is my wife's favorite. she has it full of heirlooms. well sitting at the computer one night i saw some scroll saw portraits and said to my wife "that is so cool. i would love to try that but i bet i couldn't do it". well 2 weeks later a box with my name on it arrived. yep! my wife bought me a WEN. i did lots of outside cuts, became board and wanted to try a portrait. well using the #%!* adapters on the WEN i cut one. i was hooked. here is my first ever.... the hand i made reaching out of the frame is what i am trying now. that baby was 8 months ago. this month makes 1 year behind the saw. in that time i started with a 16" WEN and am now cutting on a 26" Hawk. i scroll because i amaze myself. i still can't believe i can do this. i need to know how far i can take this in both traditional cutting and see how my twisted mind can twist my art. thank you all for inspiring me and to my wife for knowing more about me than i did.
  6. i am not sure if i got what you have said but this is what popped in my head after reading all of the posts. thank you all so much. i learn here every time i visit. OK.... i made my first corner and this was the next so i took a scrap of the molding and did this this is the result. not perfect but i will get there. thank you all and i hope it helps others as well.
  7. if it is i you were speaking to... please do use it. i just used a $2 forstner bit and free wood. i did add a second rack below this one, i also use these tubes to hold my saw tooth hangers and 1/4" machine screws.
  8. thank you rocky.... lack of space is a great motivator...
  9. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LVXE98H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 i made my own holder with wood i took out of a bed boxsprings to keep it within the 2x4 construction of my portable building. -chris
  10. i use a lot of luan. it is so easy to pull fibers out as you remove tape. i have learned to use blue tape only to tape layers together for stack cutting and applying "Duck" clear shelf paper to glue the pattern down. but above all never remove either "with the grain". slowly remove across the grain and you will have much less tear out. -chris
  11. i have made frames with flat stock. no problem it is using "corner trim" that i can not wrap my head around. i got the first corner!!! i cut it the top the same way i did the flat stock and it ended up being over an inch to long when i put on the first side. i looked for videos that show how to do this but never found the right one. so my question is: can anyone please tell me what i am doing wrong, or the trick to cutting the correct length? -chris
  12. i am beholden to you for your comment. using a would i had to look up!!! lol really thank you so much. i receive a lot of confidence from all the nice people here.
  13. hard question for me to answer. i can tell you the label says "made in Germany".
  14. you are welcome... i still have LOTS of FD blades so will use both for a while.

  16. my shop is in a rent to own portable building at my home. it has been paid off in this last year. i have found local stores that consign my rock star portraits at a 75%.25% cut and also have a 8'x12' wall at a local "peddlers mall" for only $12 a month. i stack cut almost all my projects so i have one to display and sell at both locations.
  17. i got my "Saw Bird Blades" yesterday and had a 1" challenge for them ready to cut.2 layers 1/4" luan, 1 layer 1/4" bead board, a 1 layer 1/4 mystery plywood. (would love to know what it is. Please!)the pattern i used was over 22" long and 12" high with lots of tight turns.it took only 1 #3 spiral rev blade to cut and had only a little stretch that required about an 1/8 degree turn of the tension on my hawk.with this being my first project with saw bird blades i am very pleased with it's performance and recommend them for all that use spiral blades. (i don't use flat blades) for me in the U.S. the Canadian exchange rate puts the price of a Gross is $26.79 we'll see if using them turns my like of them into love. 18. i love those dollar frames. looks good
  19. you are correct... the paper it kinda like a bike reflector.
  20. it is reflective paper glued to the backer, 2 coats clear coat then glued cutting to that with 2 screws from the back.
  21. go for it!!! it is fun. i am also playing with glow paint hint hint!!!
  22. about a year ago i bought this reflective paper at dollar tree. stopped yesterday hoping they had more... but nope. chris
  23. i stack cut this about a month ago. kept 2 pressed between 2 other boards until i decided how to mount it. this was the result.
  24. portraits are all i can speak to... to me it is a matter of how many and what backer. at Christmas i need 8 copies of each portrait. i used 1/8th" luan. it is thin enough to put in store bought frames. i also do this for clients. my "rock stars" i stack 1 layer 1/4" birch , 4 layers of 1/8" luan, 1 layer 1/4" birch. these are all backed with 1/8" melamine. i went to get 1/8" luan and got 1/4" by mistake. just used it for 2 portraits each stacked 4 high. i love this stuff! my choice always comes down to is how many do i want/need.
