  1. Cut one of my own patterns this past week. Took a lot longer than expected due to an...unfortunately expected....death in the family, necessitating a 3.5-hour drive through some nasty storms (sunny the day before....sunny the day after....go figger.) plus the obligatory family visits and get-togethers in the days following the funeral. I guess I'm the one introvert in a family of extroverts, further support to my claim that I'm adopted. This one's going to work with me (I'm in IT). 3/4" "whiteboard" (aka Lowes-Pine), finished with Minwax's Dark Walnut. Also managed to build a frame for a yard hammock (my wife was thrilled) and put up a shelf over my workbench (my wife was less thrilled with the holes in the garage walls). Been a busy weekend.
  2. Ver' nice! One of these days I'll work up the courage to try inlay.
  3. C:\Windows\fonts is the folder that fonts typically install in. Just back that folder up. Or download the font, cut/paste it to an off-computer folder, and click to install it from there. It'll still install to C:\Windows\fonts, but the installer is on an external drive. Something happens to your computer....just reinstall all of em. May take some time, but it'll take a lot less than re-downloading. I also created a Word doc with every font I've downloaded. I put the name of the font, then the alphabet (upper/lower cases) and numbers. I highlight the sample row and change its font to the one on display. So if I'm looking for a cursive font, I just scroll down until I find one or two, then play around in Inkscape with several different fonts to see which works the best. Sometimes, if I like a font overall but like a letter in another font, I'll switch the font of just the one letter.
  4. I think here in the US, we just go drinking. My 21st, I was at sea, poking holes in the ocean, studying up for watchstation quals and seriously questioning some decisions in life. LOL They look great, though!
  5. I just took a quick look at Inkscape, and I don't have the AR Berkley font!!! Anyone know where it can be found? Its not on dafonts.com. ...of course, immediately after typing this, I find it at https://fontzone.net/download/ar-berkley. I should not be allowed near a keyboard before coffee....
  6. ::salute:: Great job cutting, as well!
  7. One of the hardest aspects of adulthood, I've found, no matter if it was the best decision you could make for your furry friend. That's a well-cut tribute.
  8. Nicely cut! ...I will never be able to look at that painting again without hearing "hey God....pull my finger..."
  9. Cut this one tonight. Took about two hours to chew through it, most of that cutting the outline. 1x12 pine(ish) board from Lowes. I'll probably give it a dark Walnut stain. Pattern's up in the Library. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/13510-karmapng/
  10. Nice!!! CV/CVN's made great targets. We did some carrier-group-vs-submarine wargames in the Independence one time. Admiral swore they had us, gave us bearing and range and had at least two helo's dropping sonobouys on our "location". Our skipper kept radioing back saying, "no, that's not where we're at...." Admiral wouldn't believe us, thought we were lying to make them look bad, and demanded we launch a smoke flare. We did. The smoke grenade launched....on the OTHER side of the carrier from where they insisted we were, and close enough that on its downward arc it bounced on the flight deck at least once before falling over the side. They never questioned our bearings again, and there was a case of some sort of adult beverage waiting on our CO when we pulled back in to port. LOL
  11. Awesome!!
  12. Dragons look much better holding crystal balls. Check out Steve Good's site, he has a "Dragon Pendant" pattern that's just AWESOME as-is, or even cooler when enlarged.
  13. The Yorkie I made for an aunt, for Christmas. She's always got an emotional-support-Yorkie. The Dane, made him for my wife after we lost our first Dane, Rebel, to bloat. Smartest dog I've ever met (including the Husky we fostered....that dog was smart, but had to be part weasel, too, so Rebel the Dane took first place in my heart). Both have an open section on them, but were cut on my first scroll saw, the weekend I picked it up from a yard sale. I hadn't looked up the manual online yet, so wasn't really sure how to change the blades or what size hole to drill. The rusty blade in the saw still worked, though, and didn't break until my next project. The flying unicorns, I'd figured out blades, found a local source of 3" pin-ended blades (Ace Hardware), and figured out which drill bit to use for pilot holes. These still hang on my daughter's wall.
  14. Knots look weird, but I've found that stains of any color/brand/flavor don't like knots. My wife wanted a dark color once, she liked the sample pic on the front of the can of Minwax walnut (I'm partial to "Provincial", myself), so....that's what we use. I've got a can of "Gunstock" that comes out a reddish-orange, and a can of "Cherry" that was behind the dented and looks-like-it-had-been-opened can of Provincial and I didn't notice it until after I'd gotten home....thought "why not?" and tried it, but it looks more like just a clear coat than anything that really colors the wood. I can see where I'd use them, so I kept em. Still need to get back to the store and nab some more Provincial. All Minwax, of course.
  15. Every time someone yells about another law to take away gun rights, I always ask "so...how is this going to impact criminals?" Usually the answer is "well, they're criminals, so they'll probably ignore it." To which I respond "exactly. So how is this going to prevent crime...committed by criminals....who ignore all the laws anyway?"
  16. NICE!!!!
  17. Pine, 1x12. Walnut stain.
  18. Just finished this one. Did the pattern up a while back, but I wanted to cut it before I posted it. Pattern is now in the Library. I'll probably end up on the couch for this one.
  19. Nicely done! One must ask, though....which branch?
  20. Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look at it. I just put some file-folder material underneath the little pop-out blade guard/guide (terminology?) to raise it up level with the table. I've also noticed the saw, while quiet, has an annoying habit of vibrating screws loose in spite of the lock-washers. This is definitely an interim saw, but I'm already hooked on the vastly wider variety of blades available to me.
  21. ROFL!!!
  22. Fantabulous! They really are awesome, though! I love Celtic knots!
  23. I lean more towards Star Wars (ignoring Episodes 1-3), but these are great!
  24. I love the second one down, where'd you get the pattern?
  25. Sarcasm and BadDadJokes....two services I offer to the world, free of charge. My wife's up for sainthood for putting up with me this long.
