  1. Awesome job! I've started covering the wood in strips of blue painter's tape, then taking my pattern and spraying Super77 spray adhesive on the back and sticking it to the tape. Tape peels up easily, especially if I overlap the strips enough and remember which direction it was laid down in the first place...:) I've read elsewhere where folks use clear packing tape for the same purpose, apparently the silicone in the packing tape also lubricates the blades while cutting? Haven't tried that yet.
  2. That spiral is phenomenal!
  3. BTW, I'm seeing some interesting stuff done with multiple layers of scroll, like 3-dimensional pictures (mountains in the background, trees, etc up closer). What I haven't been able to find, though, is what this process is called other than "awesome" and "3-D". Any ideas on the proper terminology?
  4. Thanks, all! I hope to get back into scrolling/fretwork more in the future, things are kinda crazy at work right now and I get home and just want to disappear into a cloud of sawdust, but good quality wood tends to be pricey and the honey-doo's are stacking up. So....maybe on the weekends.

    Howdy

Guess I should probably say "hi"! I picked up woodworking again not too long ago, since I had a couple of tools for the job ("inherited" a table saw and jig saw from my wife's grandfather, and his bandsaw that needed a lot of TLC but is back up and running...mostly...) and it didn't look like I'd be able to get to any blacksmithing classes anytime soon. So I started simple, by making flags out of old fence sections (seems like everybody had their fences replaced last year...y'all need fence panels? I have tons!), then I picked up a 1970's-ish Dewalt scroll saw. I don't think I've pulled out the table saw since then. Been lurking around various scrollsaw forums and Pinterest for several months, just looking at patterns and picking up tips, and generally annoying the neighbors on the weekends with my noisy fretwork. But I've been loving it, and look forward to learning more! ETA: I hang my hat in Hurst, Tx, somewhere between Dallas and Fort Worth. And cedar pollen sucks.
