  1. Thanks all! Next job: my Panda pattern. Figure if I posted the thing, I should at least cut it.
  2. I'm back home for a couple of weeks ("vacation" this week, working out of an office in the area next week, then traveling to Chicago the week after), so I was able to get out in the garage and fire up the ole scrollsaw again! Felt good, and I knocked out two quick patterns (one only had three guide holes). One "Avengers" trivet for my wife, and the Celtic cross is for a friend.
  3. 'k, now, THAT is awesome!
  4. Nicely sawed saw!
  5. Ver' nice!
  6. Love it!
  7. Very nice!!! Brings up a question, though. What are the legal ramifications of creating and cutting a pattern from a movie screenshot/poster?? Is it fine for personal use, just as long as you don't sell it? Do you have to get permission in writing? I'm curious because I'm working through the SSU tutorials for GIMP, and ran across a really cool picture of Po from the first Kung Fu Panda movie that would look awesome (and there is, of course, no charge for awesomeness) on my desk at work. Its good practice if nothing else, but I was wondering about the legal aspects as I was mucking around with islands and peninsulas and all the other geographic bodies.
  8. Not really a car guy myself, but dang, I love those old classics!!!!!
  9. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I have another pattern/project that I want to try whenever we get settled into a new place and I get my shop set back up. Awesome job, BTW!!
  10. Awesome cut!
  11. Thx!!! I found it on Pinterest. Just printed it off and tried it out.
  12. Nice!
  13. Nice!!
  14. My shop is shut down while transitioning to a new city (moving from the Dallas area to the Austin area, for work....anyone know a good neighborhood with good homes for crazy-low prices in the Round Rock/Leander/Cedar Park area?). Here's a couple I made for my wife a while back, long before I discovered SSV. Yeah, they should be on a backing and framed, but she likes them, so...
  15. Thanks, all!
  16. Awesome!
  17. My prob with sales lies more along the lines of: (well-intentioned friend) "These are awesome! You should start selling them, people love stuff like that and you'll sell really fast!" (me) "Great! How many do you want?" (well-intentioned friend) "Oh, I meant other people. I don't want to buy anything, and nobody I know wants to buy anything so don't bother giving me a freebie to display. But *someone* will want blah blah blah...."
  18. Thanks, all! Whether I do anything with the pieces I cut or not, time spent in front of my scrollsaw is really relaxing, calming, almost therapeutic...until I get done and stand up straight and my neck tells me exactly how long I've been hunched over. We're looking at relocating from the DFW metroplex to the Austin insanity here within the next month or so, so hopefully there will be time in there somewhere to get some more scrolling in, but realistically I'm probably looking at that long or longer before I get back to the garage. Maybe not. We'll see how it goes.
  19. I believe so....its the mysterious "whiteboard" that is sold at Lowes, it was affordable, had a good grain, and is soft enough to leave a fingernail indention. Still managed to get a blade to twist at the base, though, so towards the end of the project I was cutting straight lines with the project held at a 45-degree angle. LOL The "teacher" one was some scrap plywood I had laying around. I was just going to mess around with it, not really intending anything, but the pattern turned out nice so I went ahead and did the base as well. Thanks, everyone!
  20. Been a stressful couple of weeks (very...), but I managed to get out into the garage enough this weekend to knock out two Steve Good patterns. These are going to a friend. Best part is, they both fit into one of those USPS pre-paid envelopes!!! ...for varying definitions of the word "fit".
  21. Awesome!!!!! Love how you cut out the individual letters/words, instead of making them the negative-space in a board. Really stands out! Great message, too.....been a particularly/spectacularly crappy month, and this is a lesson I'm starting to learn.
