  1. I think the pattern is called "You Quotes". There's three or four in the set.
  2. Thanks, all!
  3. Started cutting this one yesterday afternoon, finished up this evening. Having a full-time job, family, and delusions of getting back into shape ("hey...I *have* a beach body!!! Ever see a beach without sand dunes? I'm a dune. You're welcome."), there's not much time left in the evenings. So after finishing the cuts and some quick edging with a nail file to get rid of the worst feathers, I'm calling it for the night. I'll finish up sanding the two Steve Good patterns tomorrow, and try to get a coat of stain on em. I'm thinking dark walnut.
  4. Oh, and my last Olsen blade snapped shortly after starting, at the 90* angle of the "L". Which, darn it, forced me to try the new Pegas skip-tooth 3" pin-ended blades I'd ordered. I'll be danged....its like physics reversed itself and all of the dust started shooting out the bottom of the project and not congregating on the top, covering the pattern! I love these blades!!
  5. Slept a bit this morning, got up and did a quick workout with my wife (still old, still fat, still out of shape, knees and core still questioning my sanity in doing this.....but....call me crazy, but I like to see my shoes when I put them on!), then spent some time with my 9-year-old daughter while the wife was at a healthy-oil shindig. Watched a movie this afternoon with the family (all of them...two legged and four), then worked on my work Halloween costume (I'm either gonna be the toast of the party, or sitting in HR being told in no uncertain terms that I'm the reason nobody in the entire company will ever be allowed to dress up again). After dinner....I needed sawdust. So it became a Steve Good kind of evening while the wife and kiddo sat around watching Christmas sap movies on the Halmark Channel. I know family time is important...but....I just can't. If you've ever seen one of those movies, you'll understand. I modded the base a bit. The pattern called for 1/4" BB with an oval base of 3/4", but I cut my pattern out of a nice piece of 1x12, so its thick enough to stand up on its own. So I extended the base a bit and rounded it off, and it stands up quite well. My wife was happy. Which, I guess, is the point. See? After 15 years, I'm startin' to get the hang of this marriage thing. Did some quick sanding to get most of the feathers off, I'll give it a more thorough sand tomorrow. Not sure if I'll go BLO for a finish or a dark stain. I'll have to ask where she plans on putting it, and stain opposite of whatever the background is (dark vs. light).
  6. The frame by itself is stunning! The whole thing together makes my fingers itch to get out to my saw! Phenomenal!!! Question on the frame/corners. Do the vertical/horizontal pieces meet, or do they end at the corner pieces? My fraction abilities are a bit fuzzy, but I'm thinking they end at the corner pieces and the corner pieces stick up 1/8" higher than the sides?
  7. You owe me a new keyboard. I managed to get all the tea I spewed off my monitor, but the keyboard didn't make it. I use a bar stool, a folding one with a back to it, got it at Target a few years back and then my wife was going to throw it away when a paint can got knocked over and splashed paint on the legs. I commandeered it for the workshop. My saw sits up on the workbench, they're a good height together.
  8. I wasn't planning on posting this one, just wanted to see if the concept was worth pursuing further with better wood. But here's what I used.
  9. Thanks! Its a fun cut!
  10. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand finished. Wood was a 2x2 from Lowes, probably pine or something else cheap, since blade-exit didn't leave feathers so much as it took chunks with it. Next time, a 2x4 of harder wood, ripped down the center, will be my wood of choice. Lots of holes, lots of blade moves, lots of fighting with scrap chunks that got caught in side cross-channels (cross-hatching the scrap wood as I cut it, instead of trying for a solid piece, helped immensely). This was a fun cut to do, and I look forward to doing more like it! Sanded with a cheap nail file cut in half lengthwise...multiple interior layers as channels cross themselves means multiple "exit feathers" to take off. Finished with BLO, currently on stands, drying.
  11. I've bent many a pin-ended blade trying to make tight turns. One of these days I'll scrape together enough allowance (and my wife will approve) to get an Excalibur. Until then...I'm finding that the only limiting factor for cutting with pin-ends is the size of the pilot hole. You can still do some pretty gnarly stuff with them!! Awesome cut!
  12. Awesome!!!! One of my dreams has been to build a working wooden clock, gears and all.
  13. Seen that one, and thought about cutting it, but I don't know if my saw will handle it. ...or my mind. LOL
  14. Very nice!
  15. Ha!
  16. This. Is. AWESOME!!!! Where'd you find the pattern?
  17. Very nice.
  18. Just finished these up. Actually finished cutting them on Sunday, but some other stuff (Life) got in the way so I had to spread out my defeathering, smoothing, fixing of one busted bridge, painting (ran out of white spraypaint and had to run to the store), and framing (ran out of poplar 1x2 and had to run to the store again....got extras this time!) after work this week. Frames are done, stained, and drying now, I just briefly put Yoda and Vader in to take pics. Gotta say....I'm pretty happy with em. Or....chuffed as mintballs, as some would put it.
  19. Dang, but it hurts when one's jaw hits the floor. That is AWESOME!
  20. Have another skull pattern I'm working on now, hope to get it cut sometime soonish. October is going to be a busy month, work-wise.
  21. Creepy skull I found on Pinterest, couldn't find any artist reference to give credit to. It is now stained a VERY dark walnut. Also...Halloween tends to have a lot of parties, and scary stuff at the parties, so who better to DJ the party than the Big V himself? Cut this one yesterday, had one tiny bridge break on me (bad cut planning on my part, cut the wrong side leading towards the bridge first, the thicker rim around the right-hand side of his shades). And for the record (har....DJ's...records....okay, I'll keep my day job), I also have a DJ Yoda to go with Darth Vader.
  22. No worries! Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.
  23. October's almost upon us.....just out of curiosity, did I miss the challenge for September? I kept checking but never saw one posted.
