  1. I found that, by using a magnifying lamp, you're literally "too close to see the big picture". It just becomes a bunch of curvy lines, at that point.
  2. I turn mine off and just let my hands and the saw do all the work.
  3. Probably just sit in my house somewhere. May see if the wife wants another trivet, that's not a bad idea!
  4. Cut this optical illusion last week, then went on a business trip and totally forgot to post it. LOL 1" Lowes whiteboard, can't remember what blade. Remember, start from the center and work outwards, don't start from one edge and just work your way around....there's two delicate pieces in the middle, that are hard to spot because of the swirly nature of the pattern. At least, they were for me.
  5. ::salute::
  6. Rarrr!
  7. There's worse fevers to have. And you are, at this point in time, exactly one inlay ahead of myself. LOL
  8. Dark side has the best cookies. No worries, I'm not going to start doing papercrafts....just suborning their patterns to woodcraft. Its fiendish and devious, they'll never see it comin!
  9. Yep. Just seems to me like there are a lot more patterns that strike that....oddball chord within me. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of scroll patterns, too, this just opened another doorway. Gateway? Eh, its another source to feed my sawdust addiction.
  10. I was doing my usual Google search for patterns (my daughter requested a multi-layer shadowbox with dragons...), and ran across a potential new source: papercutting or papercraft. They work under the same physical constraints as scrollers (islands, etc), and there's a TON of awesome patterns out there. Just as an example, I was looking at the patterns done by "Wildchild" on Etsy, found a couple of multi-layer shadowbox patterns that will work well for my needs. There are millions of patterns out there, though, if this style doesn't appeal to you. https://www.etsy.com/shop/WildchildDesigns77
  11. I've buffed a fingernail a time or two, myself. Great job cutting (the pattern)!!!
  12. Okay, now THAT is just PHENOMENAL!!!
  13. Agreed, burnt frame really makes it stand out! Kudos!!
  14. My medium of cutting is Lowes "whiteboard" (cheaper than pine, if you don't mind knots all over the place) or scrap from nearby construction sites, so I don't have the different flavors of wood to try out intarsia. Still, I love looking at what is possible, and think "maybe I'll come back sometime and give that intarsia dragon a try". Even if I don't find a pattern I will cut, I still find some nifty tricks in the articles. That said, I got my first subscription earlier this year, after finding both Spring and Summer issues at Barnes-n-Nobels. I haven't gotten the winter issue yet, just a Holiday scroll sawing pattern collection that came with the Autumn edition. I figure they sorta have to hedge their bets...there's so many different things one can do with a scroll saw, and only so much space inside a magazine, that there's no real way to "center" a magazine like this. Topics will slosh heavily towards one style one month, then swing back to a different style the next month, etc etc. At least, that's what'll happen if the editors are smart, which it seems like they are from my limited exposure so far. Keep sloshing, FoxPublishing!
  15. Awesome cutting! Those are some narrow lines! Agree with everyone above....a little bit of wood glue, low down towards the bottom of the piece, and the crack will disappear from above. Any ooze will be at the back, and easily wiped away. Some very light sanding and any residue should be taken care of so there's no weird spots when you stain.
  16. uckFay ancerCay. For those who speak pig-latin. I did a pattern like that for a friend who lost a friend (several losses in my own family, as well), I'll have to see if I posted it in the library when I get back home from this business trip. Welcome back to scrolling, and great job on the crosses!!
  17. As I told my wife, scrolling is cheaper and safer than a motorcycle for a mid-life crisis.
  18. Okay, now THAT is awesome! Not a big fan of oceans myself, but there's just something about the classic lines of wood-n-sails.... Needs some kraken tentacles....:)
  19. I liked Steve Good's patterns, until I ran into his "military" category, noted how much respect he gives all the branches (including Coasties), and then I saw he even included a pattern for submariners. Now, I LOVE Steve Good's patterns!!! Great cutting, and good job on the framing!
  20. Thank you sir!!! I'd found the post over at scrollsawer, but that link no longer works.
  21. Putting my Google-fu to work...and I find a BUNCH of different forums/sites that mention it, one with a link to a PDF that is no longer working, and a couple of pattern books on Amazon, but nothing that has the pattern itself. I shot an email over to the folks at The Art Factory, we'll see what they have to say about the pattern.
  22. Very nice!!
  23. Awesome!!!!
  24. Two different versions, depending on how you prefer your alignment: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/13815-never_let_what_you_have_centeredpng/ https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/13816-never_let_what_you_have_leftalignpng/ I ran it past a friend to get her thoughts (thus there's two...she's a "centered" person) and it was suggested to add the scrollwork at the top and bottom. I don't have any good clipart, so feel free to ignore the pixelation altogether. I did.
