  1. I had some reservations about giving it up, it was an old 7.5" wheel diameter Black and Decker portable saw that I inherited from my wife's grandfather ("keep it in your garage. If I need it, I know where to find it") along with an equally old Craftsman table saw, both of which had seen EXTENSIVE use while he was still renovating houses. I finally found tires for the band saw, and getting it back up and running is what got me back into woodworking, so I was hesitant to give it up. But I needed the room for some more tools the family got for me after my brother-in-law's father died (my sister's father-in-law...dunno what that makes us....outlaws? Not-quite-in-laws?), so I had to let it go. Sold it for $20 to someone else who knew someone who wanted to get started themselves, so I feel confident its going to a good home. I tend to use the scroll saw for pretty much everything the bandsaw did, anyway.
  2. Nice!!! Every time I see these, I always wonder if anyone's ever cut all 50 and made their own US map?
  3. Awesomeness!!! One can gt a LOT of supplies for $400 and a trip to Lowes....:)
  4. Heh. Tell em is a factory goof which makes it even MORE valuable!!!
  5. Been busy cutting stuff destined to be Christmas gifts (four for my daughter's teachers, various friends and family, etc). Haven't posted much because I didn't want any of them stumbling across one of my posts, remote as that possibility might be, but this weekend I finished up two little projects that were less Christmasy. The first is a stand for my daughter's iPad, her protective case had a stand built in but that snapped off at some point. I used the scroll saw to round off the corners since I got rid of the old works-half-the-time-and-couldnt-cut-a-straight-line-to-save-its-life bandsaw. Second is in 1/2" scrap ply I had laying around, my boss wanted the sign for his office, seems that its fitting for our little IT department. **looks innocent** No idea where he gets that idea from.... Font is "stencil", I think. Nothing fancy, just official and governmenty-looking.
  6. Both of those are AWESOME!
  7. I've pounded my braincell on my desk a couple of times, and that got some sparks going (along with the faint smell of ozone...dunno what that's all about). I have one done up, large-sized (it can be reduced to ornament-size or printed 8.5x11 for a wall-hangar), and a couple of thoughts on the rest. I guess go ahead and add me to the list?
  8. I started on Pegas 3" pin-ended blades, then to their 5" flat blades when I upgraded my saw about 6 or 7 months ago. I was running low on blades so I picked up a pack from Amazon of Flying Dutchman, 12-each 2/0, 1, 3, 5, and 7's. I haven't cut much with them yet (just came in the mail on Monday), but I've noticed that the FD blades tend to pull to the left a lot more than the Pegas blades, so I have to get used to angling my work a bit to get straight lines. The Pegas also seemed to make tighter corners, to me, for the same sized blades. Again, that's with about two hours' worth of cutting on the FD blades. The FD blades cut smooth, though, and leave ZERO feathers on the bottom of the project (I use MG blades from both manufacturers). I think its just a matter of me getting used to how a blade cuts, I really can't think of anything that I seriously dislike about either Pegas or FD.
  9. I wouldn't have a clue where to start, Christmas season was never my favorite holiday season (love the cold weather, though). If you need patterns, though, hit me with a couple of ideas or a general direction to look in, and I'll get some patterns together.
  10. I have the "driving finger" one in my "to cut" stack, but it keeps getting buried under Christmas gifts that need cutting. Or I'll get distracted one weekend building a desktop trebuchet (cuz....why not?).
  11. Every victory is....a victory. Nope, I'm not going to quit my dayjob to become a guru. LOL I may have to take a gander at the album thing, though.
  12. ::raises beverage in salute:: Go Navy!
  13. Nice!!
  14. Nothing there to be ashamed of!
  15. I grew up on a series of Air Force bases, but the last base was in south Georgia, surrounded by tobacco farms and all sorts of camping opportunities. I do recall wolves and bobcats in the area, too, they both loved raiding chicken coops and small yappy-dogs left to run unwatched in the neighborhoods (even in base-housing). I made a strong effort to do all my jogging during daylight hours. Steve Good pattern.
  16. I find Life is safer that way. Nice cutting, too!
  17. I've cut two of his illusions so far (and have three more queue'd up!), they're fun cuts!
  18. Awesome!!!
  19. Here's the pattern I used. Its kinda rough around the edges when you zoom in, but I didnt' find that to be a problem, just run your blade down the "points" (the corners of the pixels) and it all levels off.
  20. Definitely NOT a frog.
  21. I have that one in my "to cut" pile...somewhere!
  22. ...I'd kinda like to see pics of that!!!! (and possibly a pattern?)
  23. Even with a magnifying lamp....my eyes hurt. Probably an hour, hour and a half total cutting time.
  24. A Christmas gift for a friend. Silhouette was found on Google Images. Cut in 3/8 ply, Pegas #1mg blade, saw set on a sloooooow speed, and a sphincter-pucker of about 11 on a 1-10 scale. Some of those lines, the wood remaining is thinner than the kerf of the blade! I plan on doing a dark stain, then finding some pre-printed paper with an American flag and seeing how that works for a background, then framing the whole thing. Next up I have a superman pattern I'm cutting for friend's husband.
