  1. Magnificent. I love intarsia. I have only made 2 pieces, one a Rose photo frame which I gave away and my 1st piece a tree frog.
  2. Holding my breath and sucking it in just doesn't make as much difference as it used to
  3. I have one and used it quite a bit when I was making toys, I don't think it would be any good for painting backer boards as they don't cover enough.
  4. And it always happens when I am doing an order for a customer and it needs to be done yesterday
  5. Absobloodylutely beautiful Marg. I love the warmth and grain of natural timber, but I also love nicely finished pieces, be they polished or painted, and that is very nicely finished.
  6. Another thought on comfortable sawing positions, Check your self every 15 minutes or so and force yourself to relax. I find that I get so engrossed and intense , especially when cutting really fine pieces that I have to consciously make myself relax and stand tall again.
  7. Now that is Niiiiiice. Great choice of background and frame. You and Russell make a good Team
  8. I have always stood at mine. I have a thick rubber mat on the floor, actually I have rubber mats in front of all my benches and machines. Having said that, a few years ago I purchased a U-beaut swivel, hight adjustable, upholstered stool from a garage sale so I can sit. I will have to test it one day.
  9. You are more than welcome mate
  10. G'day Marg, Thank you. I use lacquer 30% gloss. I buy it in 20 litre drums, and yes this one has lasted me quite awhile I used to make lots of toys. I sand the boxes 120g, 180g, 240g, and 330g and cut back between coats with 330g. I have a couple of Aussie designs, Kangaroos, and a few specific to Kalgoorlie and mining eg a Kangaroo and Head frame, and a Dump Truck. When I find them I'll post 'em up.
  11. 2 of my latest cuttings. Cut from 3mm hoop pine ply using FD #3 Spiral and Pegas #3 mod. Framed with Pine stained to colour and 3 coats of 30% gloss lacquer. The 1970 Falcon 351GT was the fastest 4 door production sedan in the world. They are worth a small fortune if you are lucky enough to still own one. The pattern is mine made for me from my photo by a mate. The Indian (That bloody Indian) I swore quite a few times cutting that. The pattern is by Sam Custodio. Both cuttings are A3 size
  12. Excellent work Kevin, I'm exhausted just looking at them all. Love the finishes
  13. Nothing worse than looking forward to great days work and the saw refuses to co-operate. I have replaced the switch on my Dewalt a couple of times. The last time I purchased a dust and water proof switch from an auto shop, No problems since (Touch wood)
  14. No, but did have a good look, and that decided me against buying one, well actually the war office and she made the decision. 1978 looking for a car. I could get a 74 mustang for the same price as a new falcon wagon, needless to say the wagon won, but I still think of the red mustang
  15. Good job Roly
  16. Thank you all, The kind sentiments are greatly appreciated.
  17. Really nice, I can imagine the little bloke lying down with a tree in his hand, holding a whiskey bottle instead
  18. Very nice cutting and the timber you selected really sets it off.
  19. Thanks Ralph, I cut the corners on a table saw, you could do them on a router table. I use 1/2" (13mm) material for the boxes so the corners have to cover this. I start by machining timber down to about 3/4" (19=20mm) sqr. Then set the fence on the table saw so that I'm making a cut 5/8 (16mm) along the square and the same depth. What I am actually doing is removing a square strip from with id the 19mm pieces, making them L shaped. I usually machine them in lengths of just over 16" (400mm). I run the ouside cnr on my router table using a 1/4" roundover bit and sand all smooth. Then cut into 4" (100mm) lengths, enough for one box.
  20. G'day all, 2 more tissue boxes, I don't think I've shown this pattern before. The Rose is backed with green and red felt, the Cowboy black felt. I like backing him with black felt and glitter, looks like the stars at night, but i'd run out so a starless night is.
  21. G'day all, I noticed in the Q & A Forum there was a bit of discussion regarding pin chucks and holding 1/16th or smaller bits in your drill press. This is my method, A mate actually got me the chuck, however I have collected a few chucks (I always remove the chuck before chucking a US drill ) since and given them to blokes I know. Most 1/4" chucks will grip the small bits. I found a bolt that fitted in the threaded end of the chuck, cut the head of it and that is now the shank that goes into the drill press. A picture is worth a thousand words Cheers John
  22. I really like that
  23. G'day Pete, A friendlier bunch of people would be hard to find. There's heaps of info here so kick back and start reading.
  24. What a great start. I think she may have been a carpenter in a former life.
  25. Love it Jeff.
